The largest city is the capital of the great human kingdom, with a population of over 4.5 million, with a society saturated with arcane spellcasters of minor power serving in civil and industrial labor, and a central enlightened monarchy valuing education, compassion and justice. In the great cities, however, there will always be urban decay and intrigue as well as outside the cities where traditional fantasy threats still exist despite the technological advances. Currently I'm working on outlining the sufficiently advanced magic of the campaign world, with the human magic concentrating more on craft, items, functionality and form, while the elves, being more esoteric and fey, concentrate more on advancing traditional forms and on pure magical energy fields and webs. In the human capitol, numerous magical schools help train spellcasters from all economic areas, though powerful spellcasters are rare, and usually are associated with the most prestigious schools. The trouble with the concept is deciding how advanced certain technologies can become while still being remaining in a magic-based technology. Also, it is a fine line in maintaining some flavor of the arcane and ancient traditions in a more modern setting, and the interaction of the advanced technologies with a fantasy setting. |
