The concept of Battleworld is that some of the most powerful city-states in the multiverse have been unexplicably removed from their own homeworlds and have been thrown together into a strange new world where they seemingly can not escape from ... These city-states are cut off from other planes and cut off from their gods though they still retain their ability to cast clerical spells they can not summon creatures from other planes ...

The world itself has to major oceans so I'm looking to have the various city-states to border each other in a circular fashion.

I am still looking for ideas for the city-states that have been stolen but some of my ideas are ...
- Necropolis - a city of non-feeding undead populated mostly by necropolitans, mindless undead laborers and ruled by lich-pharaohs. They live in a desert like region with almost no water
- Mecha - a city of warforged and other awakened items. The city itself is alive and is the leader of its warforged inhabits which it calls its children as they have all been created by forge that is part of Mecha
- Sylvannia - a city perpetually covered in darkness, with large magical clouds preventing sunlight from entering. It has a ruling class of drow vampires that can not bear children, a drow subclass who may later become vampires if they are deserving and an assortment of other races that serve as laborers and food
- Tsochar - a city ruled by tsochari a race of puppeteer like parasites that control their hosts. They have bred and experimented with various ideal hosts depending on their uses and use various grafts ... their soldier is a combination of feral war troll with multiple limbs
- Arcanus - a flying city ruled by sorcerers, favored souls and other spontaneous casters. Everyone is born with some magical ability with the city subdivided into clans depending on the set of magical abilities one can perform
- Zorn - a human city ruled by a theocracy that is very lawful but acts like a police state. They theocracy is full of clerics who will do everything in their power to prevent the populace from knowing they can no longer contact their god but still retain its powers
- Dracos - a very large city of dragons that is currently in constant civil war. As usual the chromatic dragons are fighting against the metallic dragons with the chromatic controlling the center portions of the city and the metallic controlling the outer perimeter and trying hard to prevent the chromatic dragons from escaping
- HighMountain - a very large mountain fortress that is home to the dwarves. They also house the exiled nation of gnomes who have learned to make guns using the minerals of HighMountain.
- The Barbarian Horde - a loose empire of various barbaric tribes from orcs to humans to goblins to minotaurs and others. They are led by a fierce Half-Minotaur Were-Tiger who rules with an iron fist. Here the strongest survive and its not uncommon for skirmishes to happen amongst the tribes.
- Saurus - A large Jungle dominated by a yuanti kingdom who uses lizardmen followers and is able to mentally control dinosaurs
- Orcania - a kingdom of hobgoblins and goblins but is controlled by an underground city of illithids.
- Evergreen Forest - The home of the elves, centaurs, fey, treants and other woodland creatures. This is an alliance of the various races who is ruled by a council which represents each race. The races mix freely and the current spokesperson of the council is an ancient elf.
- The Tower of Knowledge - a City of powerful magic-users, archivists and other magic-users who learn their spells. This began as an academy but is now a self-sufficient city composed of various races. The tower is protected by an army of golems and effigies. The city is now trying to focus its energies on finding a way home.
- Gorath - This is a city of Beholders who are in the midst of a huge uprising by against their former Giant slaves. The beholders were led by a Beholder emperor who controlled the others with a chain of domination. The move to battelworld gave the Giant the opportunity to do their uprising and they are focused on destroying their former captors.

I'm still looking for other empire/city-state/race ideas but this is what I have so far.

I'm still not clear as to why they were brought to battleworld but at the moment I'm leaning to them being brought together by an evil god of war in his quest for the ultimate warlike race to use in his bid against the other gods ... either that or the devils banded together to create the perfect ally for their war against the demons hence no races from the demons, devils, angels etc.

Well here it is so far, kindly give your comments and suggestions. Also give me suggestions as to how you think their battles will happen and which race might ultimately win ...

Well I'm pretty sure that the people in Battleworld are going to have a common enemy: Whoever put them there. Meaning that they are all going to go after that person, and try to kill them. Once they are successful, they would discover that the world is trapped, and only the demon, devil, whatever outsider has the power to put it back. The problem being outsiders can't be resurrected. Each race would blame the others, then the fighting would begin. The PC's would them make their race win, by eliminating the rest of them, which would bring them back to the normal world. This screams evil campaign by the way. Once they bring themselves back to the normal world, the campaign ends.

The next campaign is when after hundreds of years, a vanished city comes back. The people in it are cruel warriors, who are able and willing to annihilate any opposition. The most powerful of which would be the former PCs. Or at least it would appear that way. The insanely powerful demon would manage to come back, as when he was "killed" he or she was actually sent back to their plane, in a prison, which is then transported in by a celestial. Which will be killed by the last of the surviving former PC's which escaped, dying. If the players follow, they see the death throes ability they managed to gain between the games activate on the celestial. At which point there is a massive explosion, the PCs are just out of range, and among the rocks and such, a shadowy figure was thrown out. This would be the major demon.

I agree with Holy_Beholder; there will be a shared enmity (sp, sorry) against whoever put them there. I like the setting premise; it's like a world I started once, except on a larger scale. In the world I made, a group of mortals from a strange Material Plane who reached the level of quasi-deities and picked up strange powers. They kidnapped tens of thousands on humans from an alterate Material Plane, placing them on a third Material Plane that had been abandoned by the previous pantheon (and the former ruling race had all but died out).

As for the names for your various places, I think they're fine for common usage, but undoubtably each one will have a more unique name for itself that the inhabitants use.

Are you looking for great racial variety? In this case, it looks like you do. I have a few other ideas for cities, some of which use races I've created (if any of those ideas look interesting, let me know and I'll get you more detailed info on the races and their racial statistics):

A tribal city inhabited by neutral-leaning gnolls with a strong tradition of witchcraft. Their magic is technically divine, but resembles arcane magic in many ways.
Hive-like city inhabited by hivexi (custom insectoid race) who are strongly lawful and group-oriented. Psionics are the primary form of magic.
Humans with Renaissance-age technolgoy live in a city of 4-6 story brick buildings, obsessed with unrealistic contraptions and composing new forms of music.
Canals and bright flowers mark the city of amarel'neve (custom race), a pastel-skinned people who enjoy the arts and are notorious gossips and considered extraordinarly untrustworthy.
An artic city with dwellings that go several stories underground. Gnomes are the primary inhabitants, with a minority of kobolds who have sworn off their barbaric traditions.

I hope some of that helps. I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks for your inputs.

I was planning on having the uber-being give the cities signs that the only way out would be to annihilate everyone else and since they were former masters of their respective worlds some cities would actually take up the challenge, of course some cities will unite to try to find the uber-being, but before doing that they have to defeat the cities of those trying to annihilate everyone else ... some possible plotlines I have are for the undead to devise a spell to poison everyone, to have the tsochari possess the dragons, etc.

Yes it does scream evil campaign, but I was also planning it to be a high-level campaign, maybe I should add some neutral or "good" leaning cities such as ...

Freeport - a powerful trading city where everything and anything is sold, it is run by neogi as a corporation in an endless quest for wealth and is populated by all sorts of creatures ...

I was also planning to bring in the city that used to occupy the mournland of ebberron campaign.

I like the idea of the insect race, if you can kindly provide me a link. The artic city also sounds good, maybe some geographically linked cities like one underwater or in a volcano since I already have one in a jungle and another in the desert.

Those are good inputs, Kindly keep them coming

All the information I have about hivexi (singular "hivexus") are here: http://www.eruvian.com/race.asp?raceID=4. If you're considering the artic city, the following link is an evil deity who you may want to use for a cult or the city's patron: http://www.eruvian.com/deity.asp?deityID=69.

I'll think about possible volcanic or underwater possibilities...

I was trying to rework Freeport into a trading city controlled by a corporation of dopplegangers and changelings although they try their best to hide the secret ... then I realized that some of the city-states may not want to go back to their homeworld...

... The denizens of Freeport would want to stay to take advantage of the wars of its neighbors
... Arcanus might want to stay until it has gained the knowledge of the other city states and incorporated it into its own
... the Tsochari would love to have a more diverse choice of hosts to
... Giant would hate to go back to a homeworld where they are oppressed
... Some sects would welcome the fact that outsiders both gods and demons can't find them
... Some cities might want this land since it is not as destroyed as their homeworld, I assume the dragon homeworld would be really devastated ...
