What is the best way to deal with lycanthropes in a world without night? I am thinking that the alernate creature (wolf, rat, bear, whatever) wants out as much as the human does so there is a constant battle for control of the body. Perhaps whenever the lycnathrope is in a stressful situation, or experiences extreme emotion, he must make a will check. If he fails, the other creature comes out for a set amount of time. Each time he makes the save a cumulative -1 penalty is added to the check until the creature is released at last. Maybe in some cases, if the human form is evil, the lycanthorpe can willingly release control to the creature.

Thoughts? Ideas?

If I understand lycathropy correctly.Infected lycanthropes are triggered by moonrise, which can happen even in the daytime.Inherited lycanthropes can control their transformation.Within 3 transformations the alignment changes to that listed in the monster description. An evil character could become good after being bitten by a werebear,a good character becomes evil after being bitten by a werewolf.Once the alignment is transformed there should be little or no resistance to the transformation?

IN my world, there is no night, and the moon is only legend. If it is there at all, it exerts no influence on lycanthropes. See my wiki in my sig for more info about my world.

Well you can handle the situation 1 of two ways.

No lycanthropes, and make something up of your own to better fit the setting you have created.

Secondly the lycan could have once ruled the world and to fend them off the worlds inhabitants banished luna the moon spirit. Since she was banished her children the lycan have lost their blood rites. Chased into the farthest reaches of the world. They are only capable accessing the most base powers of their heritage and only in cases when they are hidden from the sun. Secretly as the daytime dwellers go about their existence the hidden cults of lycan plot with those creatures of the underdark to plunge the world into darkness and return to their former glory.

Over all I think people should when including pre-designed species ask themselves why. Ask yourself ascetically why you are including a species, and if something home made might fit better.

For example in my setting one of the realms of existance has a goblinoid empire organised similar to an asian dynasty, now I could have done some original species with it but the fact that it was goblins gave it its flavor. On the other hand I considered the halfling, and gnomes place...and there was not directly one so out the window they went.

Overall if your going to include something of another race in a setting just insure that it fits fluidly and is not mashed in their where ever there might be some extra space on the map.
