Maps and mapping [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-27-07, 02:58 AM I have a question for you folks; where can I get ahold of a mapping program?
Is there freeware out there that you'd recomend or is there a program that one of you bought that is awesome in the greatest sense? I'm asking because I hate drawing a map on poster paper, mess up or have it ruined or want to change something after I've inked it, etc...

PS: sorry if this is in the wrong place.

07-27-07, 10:11 AM I have the same issue. I'm cheap, so I haven't actually gotten around to buying it, but some DMs use Campaign Cartographer. Their site is here: http://www.profantasy.com/Products/cc3.asp. I know a fellow DM who's used it and is quite happy with it, but I haen't tried it myself. Sadly, I haven't found any free mapping programs, but if anyone knows I've one, I'd like to get a copy of it too!

That one looks nice, but I have to ask if you know if its easy to get the sort of results you see on their web-page...

I hate the old program I use where you have to clikc out every single icon you want, which is fine for cities etc but not no much when you wnat ot make "this HUGE area is forrest" and "this enormous area over here are all mountains" :)

I would love what you had in the heroes of might nad magic editors; the ability to draw mountains and forrests, while clicking to get a single one. That would make my day. Can this program make my day? :)

07-28-07, 03:45 AM Another option is RPG Maker 2000/2003. It's a program that allows you to make your own RPG game. You can download different maps (called tilesets), and if you're not actually PLAYING the game, you don't have to do all the work of setting the gaming scripts.

I've had a lot of fun with it, and if there's a computer nearby, you can show the map on the monitor (very hand if you have a wireless mouse. Set the monitor opposite you, and everyone can see it easily). If not, just get a screenshot of your map and print er' out.

A quick google search will show you both screenshots and download links.
