Year 4156. In this campaign, the humans have started exploring the galaxy and colonizing other worlds. The battle between technology and magic rages on. Technology is seen as the savior for the non magic folk, but the magi see it as a threat to their power. Eventualy, in the year 3789, people came to their senses, and teamed up magic and technolgy, for the greater good of man, though extreamists on both sides still exist. Faced with the greater threat of the newly discovered race, the gnomes, (all non human races are form other planets in my campaign, not like in standard dnd), the humans must unite together or perish. Gnomes are years ahead of humans in technology development, but magic gives humans a slight edge. Eventualy however, the humans start to lose the battle.

My campaign will start on the elf homeworld. The elf homeworld, not yet named, is on the edge of the currently explored human territory. The players, who can be any race they wish, will be incorperated into the story. They will somehow end up stranded on the elf homeworld.

Since the elves are not advanced in technology like the humans, nor have they started exploring other worlds, the campaign will have a classic dnd feel, despite the future setting, for the only equipment availible will be primitive stuff.

The primary races the players will be encountering are high elves (the civilized ones, with great magic development), wood elves (the tribal folk), and drow, the "bad" elves, or so the high elves say.

The players will search with no success for a way off the world, to reuinite with their allies. Durring their adventures, they will hopefully make allies with either the drow or the high elves, and eventualy be resqued by humans, after saving the elf world from gnome colonization.

This setting leaves room for a traditional style dnd game for most of the low, and even mid, and even high level, if you want. There are monsters and swords, and elves, and of coarse, dungeons, and dragons.

Then a mid or high level campaign will start, as the humans ally with the elves against the gnomes. At this point, technology can be made to mimic high level abilities without fear of unbalancing the game. They are like mundane versions of magic items. Then your future campaign is underway.

It's difficult to imagine humans losing all their tech and regressing to a D+D level? Even simple things like canning food, knowledge of antisespis, pencil making, standardized parts, etc.,would change a D+D world. The humans would tend to cause an industrial revolution, especially if captured by the Drow. Still we had stone age cultures in remote parts of the world until just recently so it could happen.

Interesting. The progression for power levels is about right, as is the events you have accompanying them. I think the addition of technology at those times will really help inject new flavor throughout the campaign.

If you want to avoid the technological knowledge that taradusis mentions , you can shoot for more of a steam-punk setting where technology and magic mix, but your average party won't have knowledge of advanced methods that would transform the world. If they did, they'd be a target for capture by many of the races to try and help them gain an advantage over their enemies.

You can go so far as to change the scope of your campaign from planet hopping to continent hopping. But that changes your core concept quite a bit.
