Naval Combat! [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have recently started a campaign in a settin much like the Bahamas: there are lots of tiny islands surrounded by water. does anyone know some good house rules for ship battles. The pcs will soon be purchasing a boat, and i intend to throw some pirates at them.

02-09-08, 11:15 PM I would stick with the rules from the Stormwrack supplement. Though I did do some brainstorming on my Random aquatic notes thread.

02-10-08, 12:45 PM That would be great... except i am relatively new to this game, and only have the core 3 books. not even my gaming buddy, who has about every book known to man, has this supplement.

02-11-08, 05:52 AM In the download section for out of print materials I believe you can download the birthright rules for naval combat for free.

02-11-08, 09:02 PM Come up with a system that takes in account boat speeds dependent of the wind, along with ways to damage the boat so it sinks. Toss in Profession (Sailor) checks if need be.

(An abstract summary of the Stormwrack rules doesn't break any rules does it?)

02-12-08, 01:48 PM another good book to get is Arms and Equipment as it has several boats/launches in the book. If you are having a water campaign, Stormwrack would be worth the money.

02-13-08, 09:01 PM Also worth mentioning, the Arms & Equipment guide also holds in it a Submarine that you can use in your average DND setting, which to me is so ridiculously awesome that any aquatic campaign I'm in, I try to get that Submarine in at least once.

Indeed, importing books from America has saved me an absolute fortune.
It's scary, when P&P and import tax still doesn't bring it up to the UK's RRP. Ź_Ź

02-22-08, 06:40 PM I think it's even cheaper to download them as a PDF. I usually like rpgnow.com for that,they carry a lot of the out of print stuff.

02-23-08, 01:01 PM yes, but i find it hard to focus on those books... its easier for me if its actually ion front of me. also, i dont have a laptop, which makes taking it to the table impossible.
