| rethgryn01-03-08, 10:46 PM | Before I try and recruit players for this campaign, I would like some feedback on it: Instructions to the Players Background This campaign begins in the aftermath of a horrible calamity. All of you, for one reason or another, were in the city of Balder's Gate during the Shieldmeet festival. Bauldur's Gate. Baldur's Gate is, or should I say, was a metropolis in the Western Heartlands of Faerun. More Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldur%27s_Gate_%28city%29 Its a diverse place, and your characters could reasonably be of any of the standard races. (Please ask before choosing something crazy and out of place, like a Warforged or a Klingon). It was also home to 40,000 people and many more people visiting from across Faerun for the summer. It's a major port being situated at one of the few places along the sword coast where it is safe for ships to dock. What happened. In the weeks leading up to Shieldmeet, there was news about Eliminster, a small group of harpers visiting. They brought a sealed stone chest with them and were tight lipped about its contents. Eliminster, known for being not only the greatest wizard in all of the known world, and a great dancer as well, was unusually grim and concerned. Eliminster met with the council of the four on the day of shieldmeet. Thats when literally all hell broke lose. A massive force of devils penetrated the city through magical gateways, overwhelming the guards and any adventurers who decided to engage them. Eliminster's harper companions led by a paladin of Illmater named Lady Aramorel, fought off many batezuu as they led the survivors to safety, who were after the contents of the stone chest. Ultimately, Eliminster gave the order to open the chest and activate the item inside, this caused a portal storm that whisked the fleeing refugees to another world. Eliminster himself stayed behind to permanently seal to portal. That was yesterday and you were among those that were whisked away to another world. It was a very uncomfortable night. Those than ran brought only those things they needed to survive along with a few prized possessions. Themes Keep in mind, while the forgotten realms are a starting point, I am not a historian of Faerun, and somethings of my alternate universe version of the realms will differ. The biggest difference between my Forgotten Realms and the “real” forgotten realms is the cosmology as I like the great wheel better. Its mostly inconsequential though as the campaign begins you after the disaster, on the other side of the portal with no means of getting back. You are in an unknown world trying to rebuild a civilization. There will be some creatures similar to creatures from the realms but some that are entirely alien, creatures from beyond nature, more malevolent than demons but there are also some creatures not so hostile, born out of dreams. The themes concern exploration, discovery, and rebuilding a civilization from the ground up. Character Creation Books Any “offical” book, but please run some of the more exotic things by me. If you know its broken, its going to make everything less fun for everyone. Gestalt multi classing is out for instance. Freebies Give yourself one free 18, otherwise it is a standard point buy with each score starting at 8 Maximum Hit Points, as the monsters and NPCs will have this too Maximum Starting Gold for your class to be spent on the things you brought with you through the portal storm. 1 Free Feat if your character has a dependent with an NPC class (spouse, child, elderly parent, sibling) You may not use this feat as a prerequiste for anything that requires that feat. You lose the benefits of the feat if your dependent dies, hence why you can't use it as a prereq. Your dependent has ability scores that are based on a point buy. The scores start at 6 with 27 points to distribute amongst them. You may or may not choose 2 traits from Unearthed Arcana, you are expected to roll play these traits if you take them. Alignment You may be any alignment as long as you read this page and don't be either of these people: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LawfulStupidChaoticStupid Unearthed Arcana Action Points are a go. But then again so are sanity points. However, as characters from a fantasy setting, you are much more resistant than a call of cthulu character and you will not encounter creatures that damgae sanity as often as characters from call of cthulu will. 2 traits from unearthed arcana if you so desire Encumbrance Please Keep track of encumbrance, I probably won't go through it with a fine toothed comb but I'm going to get suspicious if your dude with a strength of 8 is walking around in heavy armor while lugging furniture around. Character Background Tell me where you grew up, what your family was like, and why you decided to become an adventurer. What are your likes and dislikes? Hopes, dreams, and aspirations? Any bizarre quirks? Belong to any secret societies or cults? If you're not a native of Baldur's Gate, where are you from and how did you get there? Where else have you visited? If you want to get really into it, include a deep dark secret you’d rather not have anyone else know about. At the same time, don't write a book. Focus in particular on how your character's background influences his behavior today. Character Picture: Surf the web and find a good picture to represent your character. I'll use it to represent your character on this website. Wizards.com and Elfwood.com are both great resources for fantasy art. Either send me a link to the picture, or attach the jpg or gif file to an email. Make sure you give me the artist's name so I can acknowledge them on my website. Absence If you have to miss a session, you may still earn experience provided you email your character sheet. You must also choose whether your character is in jeopardy or not in jeopardy. If you are in jeopardy, you're character will be run by another player and you will have to live with the consequences if he dies. You will however get full experience. If you are not in jeopardy, you will not earn experience, but your character will not die, unless there is a total party kill and will be conveniently absent from any dangerous encounters. |
