| menmelnjourney02-28-08, 12:52 PM | I have been toying with a new idea for a campaign for some time and need some input. The idea is called House of the Holy. The premise is that when the world was created, the gods came to it, met in a house to decide what all would be on this particular world. Once everything was decided, they all bent their collective wills into shaping it, peopleing (spelling :( ) it, what animals / monsters would be on it, creating the mountains, oceans, rivers valleys, caves, weather patterns, ect. You get the idea. Here's part of my delima. Is this House accessable to anyone who walks up to it to seek their god or should it be a quest to find it and gain some great boon? If it's open to all, would that make any temple in the world a "branch office" for that specific god? Is there a way to have both? I have also been toying with the gods creating an immortal to stay at the house as a Head Butler sort of to be there for whoever comes in seeking their god. Should it be one house for all gods or one house per god? I think there are a lot of plot lines that can be used with these ideas, i just need to firm up the plans. For exapmle, if the house is open to all and easily accessable, what happens when the followers of one god encounter followers from that gods enemy? Is this idea big enough to create a new world around, or will it fit better into a premade world? Thanks in advance for any input. |

If you were a god, and had a house, would you want everybody who can walk or be dragged showing up every day? Make it out of they way, sort of like the holy grail kind of thing. Everybody knows generally where it is, but it is a long and trouble-filled journey. A goal of some holy man to take the pilgrimage to the House of the Gods. You could even make the location unknown, or even have it move. This could be the basis of a life-long campaign to find and pray at the temple. No real benefits to the pilgrimage, maybe some kind of permament blessing or just some divination into their future. Possibly emulate the Wish spell, but not beyond the safe limits. The ideas i posted here work much better in a generally low magic campaign, few spellcasters, low leveled, many clerics with low-high levels. No-one with the ability to use spells like wish or miracle. Maybe limited wish, but nothing spectacular. Maybe you need to make the pilgrimage to ascend past level 20? Or gain the use of the Wish and/or Miracle spells? |
