| DoctorZalost03-28-08, 01:13 PM | Let me start by saying that I'm a long time reader/poster, here. I've seen tomes and tomes worth of knowledge given forth from the kind people here, and I only hope that this will end in the same way. I'm beginning a campaign with a few of my friends, all of who are first timers. I've played more than a few times, enough to really understand how a good DM works. My problem is thus. I plan on, at some point, the characters (of which we currently have 3), will either be approached, or somehow contacted by one of the dieties. They'll learn of a heinous plot which is being schemed by a cult, which aims to summon Nerull to the material plane. Throughout the campaign, the PCs will be faced with many demons, undead, and the like. The ultimate goal is for them to stop the cult from completing their dark plans, and destroy the Cult Heads. My problem, chiefly, is concieving a way to get the PCs together. At the moment, we've got an as-of-yet race-less Fighter, Human Wu-Jen, and a Half-Elf Druid. There is a good chance we'll have one or two more players, but at the moment, I've got those to begin with. I can't decide if it would be more sensible to inject them directly into the story, or to find another way to bring the PCs together, and perhaps have the cult grow at the same time as the PCs. I'd be very appreciative of any advice, ideas, etc. anyone has to offer. Thanks in advance, Dr. Z~ |

They all rush around the corner as PCs do and they see a parade of Nerull cultists marching and chanting, waving banners and such. The group of NPCs they are all traveling with are killed and they must escape. Bang. A reason to stop the cultists, revenge is a great motivator. And they have a reason to be together. Easy. :P |

| zaku41k03-30-08, 02:11 AM | Well.. three of them could have some issues with different members of this cult, and just so happened the three (or more) cultist were meeting at this location, when the three heros kick-the-door style on the cultist. Then after the initial combat they get an adventurer hook about a higher power commending the cultists, and wa~laa! on with the quest. |

Something that will make them form a bond with each other as they go out in the world. Sounds like a crime thriller. And nice batman reference to the arkham guy So If you want to play out how they meet I recomend the wanted poster trick. There all after the one wanted guy (who happens to be a cultist) and then after they catch him (or fail to catch him what ever) they decide to group together to stop the cult |
