I'm new to GMing, and was wondering if you had any suggestions for a easy to run/play campaign.

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks. :)

Just read the DMG chapter 2 for tips on running things. If you have it, the DMGII chapter 1 can be good for troubleshooting. If you specifically want info on how to make a campaign world, I suggest just making a dungeon and a town to begin, then work your way from there. DMG chapter 5 has a lot that's good for campaign worlds.

I actually think you might be better off taking this to "What's a DM to do?"

WoTC is gonna love me for this one. Pick up the Expedition to Undermountain. Ten levels of fun. Really easy format.

Using a premade adventure module for a while would let you focus on getting familiar with the rules. Return to the temple of elemental evil is a classic that starts the PCs at level 4.

The Red Hand of Doom is a really fun adventure. It has Dragons, Goblins and Gods, oh my! :D Here's a link to the Red hand of Doom's product spotlight (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ps/20060210a) and here's a link to Amazon (so you can read some reviews of the book before you buy it) (http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Fantasy-Roleplaying-Adventure/dp/0786939389).

If that's not your style than I've heard Scourge of the Howling Horde is good (Link to Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Fantasy-Roleplaying-Adventure/dp/0786939389)), though I've never played it. I heard it was designed for new DMs.

EDIT: I forgot, here's a link to some free premade adventures on WotC's site. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b&page=1)

Perhaps set up a gladiatorial arena? This would give you a limited playing field and a chance for a PC who's defeated to be spared by the Emperor. Pcs could compete as individuals and as teams. Good for only 2-3 levels. Allow PCs to bet on themselves? Random thought.

It's even better than that; historically, new gladiators cost too much to break in, so they had to make the ones they had last as long as possible. Most gladiators were trained in drawing the most blood for the least damage, and they mostly aimed for the legs and other nonvital spots. So if they lose, they would simply be out of commission for a couple of days, but wouldn't gain any money either. By the time they come out on top, they'd also be local celebrities (ancient Roman graffiti suggests gladiators were like modern-day star athletes)

(as for slave gladiators, many were essentially fed to the lions and given very little chance to survive, IIRC.)

If the players are particularly partial to the whole 'not dead after losing' thing, you could also place your campaign in Ysgard or a similar plane. Nobody stays dead for more than 24 hours.

P.S. Thank you for spacing after punctuation, Taradusis. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it looks a lot better now

Honestly I'm on my first campaign and jumped head long into a lvl6 evil campaign. I've played on and off a couple years and only for like 6 months did I have a really good DM. My role playing needs work but /shrug players don't seem to mind to much. You should be fine. Just draw up a general outline for what you want and what your trying to steer the players at. Keep one dungeon ahead of your players, if you follow that you should be fine.

Another simplistic campaign is the episodic style? Give the PCs a ship and let them sail around fighting or being pirates. They could also be like the starship enterprise and visit a different island every session? If you wish you can borrow island ideas from my Random aquatic notes thread.

I have to agree with some of the others, get yourself a pre-made adventure.
The reason I suggest this is all of the monsters and NPC's are already set up for you, all you have to do is read the adventure once or twice to familiarize yourself with it and you can go from there.

Or you could just set up a couple of encounters for your PC's and go from there.
