I am making an oriental campaign in my own new setting. in my setting all of the world are barbarians besides one continent which has an oriental culture.
the oriental continent is composed of a lot of feuding daimios each of which controls a city or two. the players are working for one such daimio. his objective is to unify the continent first by unifying their nation then by attacking the other nations in the continent (as you can see this is going to be a very long campaign) most of the adventures will be battles to take over the continent. however my players want other types of adventures. any ideas for other types of adventures I could use.

I would suggest watching some of the MANY Asian-themed programs and anime that are now available out there for ideas. You are bound to get a TON of material. If you don't want to invest too much time doing that, then try doing a few quick Google searches.

I can start the ball rolling by suggesting the cartoon "Jackie Chan Adventures." This is actually a simple yet clever program. Over the relatively few seasons of the show, the overall goals of the characters change. It starts around the statue of Shendu, an evil dragon spirit trapped in another void along with his brothers and sisters by the Thirteen Immortals. Shendu enlists the aid of the "Dark Hand" as well as the deadly Shadow Khan (which are basically a team of ethereal ninja) to hunt down and retrieve the 12 Talismans.

Each talisman represents one of the Twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac. Each talisman grants its bearer a special magical power. If Shendu can retrieve all 12 talismans, he will be freed from his imprisonment and can once again take over the world! Mwa ha ha ha.

Jackie Chan, his niece Jade and their wise Uncle, who uses Chi magic and owns an antique shop in San Francisco, travel the globe to try and stop the Dark Hand and Shendu from succeeding. Each talisman could represent one adventure for your party.

From what I can remember, here are the talismans and their powers:

Dragon- flaming hands
Monkey- shapeshifting
Rooster- flight, levitation
Dog- immortality, negates effects of aging
Pig- laser eyes
Rat- animate objects
Snake- invisibility
Horse- healing
Sheep/Ram- astral projection
Ox- super strength
Tiger- balance (good and evil)
Rabbit- super speed

One problem an invading army has with conquering new lands is gaining the trust of new citizens. The PCs could be tasked to go out and (in the name of the emperor) help the towns with their needs.

An excuse you can use to run them through any kind of adventure you want.

One interesting way might be one similar to the novel Shogun if you like the idea of basing it on Japan. Typical of feudal monarchies there might be truces under a single strong ruler or kingmaker but once that ruler dies then a child ruler might be on the throne (or as heir to the kingmaker if it is the Daishogun) and the more powerful daimyos might gradually move towards civil war as the regency finds itself unable to agree and as rival lords seek to control all power for themselves.

In this sort of context you can build towards the war by having missions that involve gathering information, protecting diplomats, catching spies or assassins, preventing public humiliation of a particular lord, finding a magical item to give prestige to a particular lord and so on.

I've considdered an Oriental campagin before, the idea being that the PCs would be heading to the Orient for whatever reason, in an 1800s type world.

Anyways, for the Orient, for some fun, why not throw in other eastern cultures? India, China, Siam or a Persian-esque handful of countries would make travel exciting.

And if you decide to just focus on the Japanese aspect of Asia (I noticed you said the campagin would focus on daimyos) then maybe you could introduce an occidental culture, like when the Portugese came to Japan. They could be colonists, armed with firearms, different magic, etc. and could force rival daimyos to band together to fend off the 'barbarians' from abroad.
