Hokay, so I'm writing up a campaign for the Planescape setting. My players are relatively new to D&D in general, and know little to nothing about Sigil and the planes, which is good. However, I want them to accidentally stumble unto Sigil via a random gate on whatever their home plane is. I also want to start them with no class levels and have them learn their ways from people they meet in Sigil and other planes.

Ultimately, I was wondering, how should I handle Tieflings or other Planetouched who have a LA of +1? Should I just roleplay them as not being able to find trainers until the others gain a level, (i.e. a Human PC finds someone to train him as a fighter, but the trainer won't help the planetouched because they creep him out) or should I just suck up the LA and just make slightly harder encounters and have characters that are slightly better statwise?

I plan on this being a roleplay heavy campaign, so I guess stats aren't a HUGE problem, but I don't want my players whining when they do get in a fight that some are better than others.

Also, just for a little help, I have a scenario that will ultimately pull them together, but I don't know how to get them all to go to it.

What I'm thinking is having someone who was charged with handing out invites and can't seem to get rid of the last few and ends up handing them out to the PC's, but that's a little stretched. However, it is Sigil, and weird things happen.

I dont remember if its in the PH or DM book, but there are rules for multiclass characters starting at level 1. Basicaly, you can be a level 1 character and have two classes. That would mean you´re not 1/1 yet, but Aprendice/Aprendice. So, while everyone else would be level 1, these characters with LA +1 would still be aprendices on their class, even if they arent multiclass.

And I dont think that is a good idea for a starting adventure. I supose they know nothing about the politics in Sigil to care about a party like this, or even understand the importance of it.

I thought about the apprentice thing, however, they're all starting with essentially no levels, not just the LA +1's. What I think I'm going to do is have them have 1 level in Commoner, and replace it when they train into a PC class, but just make the LA +1's get twice the experience to come out of Commoner.

I realize they won't necessarily care or know about the politics, but they'll get dragged into it.
