| webhed99906-26-07, 09:11 AM | Please review the following creature for both balance and color. This creature will be used in an encounter vs. six 10th level PC's where the creature is followed a round or two into the encounter by another creature hinted at in its description. - - http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ajkj5296v35m_121ph7bn7 |
| Holy_Beholder06-26-07, 12:20 PM | Its kind of weak for a 10th level party, maybe they poison all of their spears that they throw first. It would definitely help. As for the large+ creature with a bite, what are its stats(did you make up spirit drakes or are they in a book I don't have) Also, are the party fighting both of them, protecting the fairies, or helping the drake eat them? |
| webhed99906-26-07, 01:56 PM | I know its weak. Its not meant to be the main threat. The idea is the party stumbles upon them on accident, sending them into the air all around. The Redcap Fairies are going to be hiding (or milling about) on a rotten log in a forest. The Spirit Drake is something I made up but it could just as well be an adult green dragon. It doesn't really matter other than to say its going to be a large, flying, dragon, or dragon-like creature. Once flushed out of the undergrowth the fairy swarm will flee, as they sense the dragon coming. My specific questions regarding the Redcap Fairies are: 1. What do you think the CR should be? 2. What do you think the duration for the Confusion should be? Knowing those two things will allow me to determine how tough the dragon should be, ie, should I use an Adult Greeny, or a Young Adult? Once I know the CR of the swarm I can decide the CR of the dragon. |
| Holy_Beholder06-26-07, 02:11 PM | CR 4 or 5. Can you post the stats for the spirit drake? |
| webhed99906-26-07, 02:30 PM | Actually I haven't written it up yet but it was going to be similar to a green dragon but with some different deals. For instance, it has iridescent feathers and has a relationship with life and positive energy, even though it is a neutral, animal intelligence creature. Its feathers are rumored to have the ability to restore life to the dead and heal great and severe damages. Either way I doubt I'll have time to fully stat the creature out before Friday when we are playing so I'll probably go with an Adult Green Dragon instead. So you think CR4 or 5. Can you tell me how you get 4 or 5? Personally I agree, but I'm just basically guessing. |
| Holy_Beholder06-26-07, 04:07 PM | Well, they have poor HP, but swarms are hard to damage. Also, the hallucination thing could cause some real damage, as it could get a fighter and rogue, who would then turn around and attack the party, preventing the wizard from using dangerous fire spells. The hallucination ability is basically what lifted it to 4 or 5, but if you get much higher, it will probably be saved, and the poor HP gets to be a huge weakness. |
| webhed99906-26-07, 05:29 PM | Since the initial save vs the Confusion effect is a Fort save it is very likely that the Fighters will make it and the Wizards/Sorcerers might not. |
| Holy_Beholder06-26-07, 05:32 PM | Oops, I saw that as a will save some how:embarrass but as a fort save, its even worse, rogues out, wizard is out, and cleric might be out. Swarms are best fought by magic after all. |
| webhed99906-26-07, 06:11 PM | Well in the past the Wizard and Sorcerer have dominated many encounters so I thought this might give the Fighter-types to have a few rounds of glory. Since I was going to make the duration 2d4 rounds those that fail their save are only out a few rounds on average, and remember we are talking about 10th level characters so even if Fort is not their Good save they still have a strong chance of making the save. |
| Holy_Beholder06-26-07, 11:16 PM | The wizard and the sorcerer will always dominate every encounter unless you custom make monsters, its the way of life. Also, will you please post the stats for the spirit drake? Please? I need to see how they would interact and affect stuff. |
| Wolfvyn06-26-07, 11:42 PM | Well if you wanted to make it just a bit tougher and thus throw a slightly weaker dragon at them (dragons played right can really trounce a party), then you might want to give the fairy swarm dr/cold iron 5 or maybe even ten. They are fairies after all and most fey have Dr/cold iron and it would help reduce their greatest weakness, low hp. At 10th lvl dealing 15+ damage with a single melee attack isn't that hard for a fighter. |
| webhed99906-27-07, 09:35 AM | As they are written now they are immune to weapon damage, so giving them DR5/cold iron would effectively weaken them, requiring a stronger dragon instead of a weaker one. |
| Wolfvyn06-27-07, 09:54 AM | I didn't see that earlier. Is it something new or did i just completely miss it? |
| webhed99906-27-07, 10:01 AM | No, the immunity to weapon damage has been in since the beginning. |
