I'm trying to make a campaign-setting around Norse mythology. The story is gonna start about a thousand years after Ragnarok (Fate of the Gods). Humans have repopulated Midgard and only a few Gods remain (Balder, the sons of Thor and then some). My problem is that I'll have to do a lot of research in a very short period of time to come up with monsters and races for this game. That's why I turn to the good-natured members of this board to answer my plea:

PLEASE HELP ME!:bigeyes:

So if anyone could just help me with some good info, I'd be eternally grateful.:D

Behold the gods have given thee wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%25s)... Its a swell site, I use it all the time when I'm bored and has supplied with countless amounts of information on whatever strikes my fancy at this hour. If you're a college student (undergrad, grad, or what have you) there's always the university library, provided you're near it. Barring that the local library might have something... And barring that you can always send burnt offerings to Google.

I second wikipedia. As for races... A few minor modifications and a new name to the standard races can go a long way. Is the culture Norse too? What's the technology/magic level? What relationships do humans and other races have with the deities?

ever hear that song by the cranberries, it's called 'zombie.' That should be the theme song to your campaign.

Some quick ideas that I'll try and add to later:

Races:

humans (if you have access to Midnight, try using the Dorns as inspiration);
dwarves with favoured class artificer (from Eberron);
elves;
gnomes.

Monsters:

winter wolves (and normal wolves and dire wolves too);
linnorms (in place of normal dragons... but you might have to invent your own so that they can be encountered across a range of CRs);
most importantly: trolls, ogres and giants.

I've been wanting to run a slight variation on a post-Ragnarok world, one that asks the question, "What if Ragnarok went wrong?" More particularly, what if the forces of pure Chaos had been unleashed (Chaositech by Malhavoc Press was a particular inspiration) and so the grand battle of Ragnarok devolved into chaos and none of the deities, or their fated opponents, actually died? However, the world itself has been broken/shattered by the forces that were unleashed.

Anyway, hope more people post here so I can yoink some ideas for my own game.

Jotun. A cookie if you use these divine rank 0 quasi-dieties to replace or rule over traditional fiends, with Surtur (who burned the world) and Thyrm (who then froze it) replacing the arch-fiends. Also, look up the Ragnarok manga (can't stress this enough).

would you call your game post-apocalyptic or more of a Rebirthing?

How close do you want it to be to Nordic mythology? Mickey Zucker Reichert wrote a series of books based around a world where Ragnarok passed, taking a different look at traditional Norse mythology. You may want to do some research at those for a different take with your own world.
