Hi, everyone. I've been thinking of creating a psionic- heavy world and thought it might be fun to just disallow any and all magic. But then I thought of all the negatives of no magic ( magic weaons and armor, healing magic, monsters that use spell- like abilities and so on). I was hoping to kind of base it off of Star Wars, with psionics being like the force. Maybe I could just have monsters from the monster manuel that have psionics (aboleths, mind flayers) and monsters from the handbook. If anyone has any suggestions to my problem that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just say that enchanted weapons and armor are endowed with psychic energy, and replace monsters that have spell-like abilities with psi-like ones. It would be a lot of work, but doable.

Make it so monsters are magical in nature and the PC races developed psionics to combat the monster incursion?

Just change the wording for the most part.

The problem is for people who want to play a Ranger or the like

WotC has a vast supply of online material for Psionics, including somewhere a PrC that allows psionics to use healing psionics to effect other people. Psionics don't get alot in most books, but they do get an impressive amount of material on the site.

One thing to consider, if doing a psionic-only world, is to determine why it is psionic only. Things happen for a reason. Psionics could have evolved since something keeps magic from functioning. Maybe have magic items in existance but as left overs from some past civilization (in effect a +1 sword could be considered an 'artifact' from such a civilization). Maybe magic was abused and divine forces took it away for ever.

Also I advise looking up information on the Dark Sun setting. Not to use but for help creating a psionic setting. Dark Sun wasn't psionic only, but was pretty close. Was a desert world where magic was abused and as a result life was nearly destoryed. Traditional races were changed as a result of all this.

Edit: I do not advise going through and changing alot of the monsters. Easy to just use them as they are and act like their psionic abilities. If a monster has spellcasting powers like a sorcerer just switch some of the spells with spells similar to psionic powers. There are also plenty of monsters/creatures that can be used that wouldn't require alteration so no point in creating for yourself one big headach.

I like this idea. I'd actually leave out all inherently magical beasties. So many monsters already. Use all the cool psionic races and monsters, and add some of your own creations. Classwise, just ditch all casters. Rangers can be replaced by scouts. I think the Complete Psionics book has several new classes you could use to fill the gaps.

Thank you for your advice, everyone. I have found some ways around class problems; like paladins and clerics being replaced by the Divine Mind. And yes, all the information at the site is extremley useful.Thanks.
