Hey guys. First off thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Now on to the meat of the post. I'm going to be staring a new campain and I think I have a great idea for their first adventure. The four that will be playing have already agreed to adult themed content and all four of them are rather bright indivduals. Their characters will be rolled up this weekend for the week after as the start date. We'll be playing roll 4d6 eight times and pick the six highest stats and assign to suit. Only the standard races and classes will be allowed from 3.5 and the world is a home brew one with just the first monster manual for monster refrence for me to use on them. All of my games are run as "free roam" Meaning they can and quite often stray from the main quest...think of it like Oblivion style DMing. Many things are open to them and they may go where ever they want in the world.

Thats the nitty gritty of it. That said their first adventure that I plan on trying to hook them on is a child slavery ring. What I need help with is basically what you guys would throw into such a thing. Weather such a thing exists in your world or not isn't the question (I say that because this really is a touchy subject for many of you). I'm thinking knolls and orcs would run such a thing. But, like I type before I'm at a loss because I'm not sure. Beening as I've never seen one IRL I don't know how something like that would go down. Any sinister DM's out there are incouraged to throw ideas towards this thread. For the record the group will be a good group so no one is going to be trying to take this over like the 'Dark Brotherhood' or 'The Theives Guild' They will most likely take this thing down hard Xcore. which is my idea.

Again thank you for reading and if you feel that this isn't something you can help with please no flaming, I'm kinda getting sick of people doing that to my posts.

There is a star trek enterprise episode that might be able to help you out. I can't remember the exact name of the episode but here is the general idea.

The captives (The children slaves in your case) were organized and put into different cages based on race, size, gender, etc.

They had big guys that would make sure the prisoners stayed in line (In your case orcs, ogres, etc.)

Then of course there was the charismatic auctioneer standing in front of a bunch of bidders selling each slave off one by one (This could be a bard or a mage boss of the encounter for you)

I hope that helped, MetalMayhem

Well as far as hooking the heroes into the avdenture, maybe one of them was sold into slavery as a child. He or she would know first hand the unspeakable horrors such a "life" would entail. Since your group is open-minded about mature themes, don't necessarily feel compelled to skimp on the details; give enough so the heroes realize this is serious. It would certainly give them incentive enough to take the ring on hardcore.

You could complicate the story by introducing a number of lesser thugs and villians who must be dealt with first before the big bad evil guy behind the whole thing is revealed.

Anyway, just my few coppers. Have fun! :)

Humans. Normal people. It will have more emotional effect, that way.
