| RAGNAROKISCOMING200702-07-08, 05:51 PM | In this thread I will be posting history for my world. I'm wil be trying to combine many mythologies into one big setting. I will also rewrite some history on many things involved with dnd. First off....... History of the Nine Hells of Baator Long ago, a creature was born of Law and Evil. This creature became known as Satan, The first ruler of Hell. Satan created Hell with a single thought. In this realm, souls of lawful evil creatures would be punished for all eternity. Torturing evil souls soon became too much for Satan to handle due to the many corrupted evil creatures who were dying all over the multiverse. He then created the first devils, now known as the Ancient Baatorians, to do his bidding. They were created specifically to torture lawful evil souls, which found their way to Hell. These Ancient Baatorians (most notably Mephistopheles, Leviathan, Lilith, and Mammon) quickly grew in power, quickly branching off in other parts of Hell to do their own work. Satan eventually came upon Agrat-bat-Mahlat, a beautiful crimson-skinned she-devil. He immediately took her as his consort. Together, these two ruled Hell for eons before the signing of the Pact Primeval. When the Pact Primeval was signed in the Upper Realms, Satan had no idea he was being cast out of his own layer. Thus as Asmodeus, Belial, Dispater, and legions of fallen angels fell from the Realms above, Satan was unprepared. Not that there was much he could do, since his forces were greatly outnumbered by fallen angels who specialized in slaying fiends. Asmodeus and his host of fallen celestials, fell from the Realms Above. Asmodeus landed first and shattered Hell into 9 pieces, each smaller than the last. As luck would have it, Asmodeus and Satan landed on the bottom most layer, now known as Nessus. Mephistopheles, who was a powerful Baatorian, was Satan’s greatest ally at the beginning of the battle. Even though he planned to eventually usurp Satan and take Agrat-bat-Mahlat as his consort, Mephistopheles fought along side the Baatorians (even though Leviathan, Lilith, and Mammon quickly switched sides). He obliterated most of the fallen with the power of hellfire. How dare they interfere with his plans of taking over, he thought to himself. In mid battle, Mephistopheles knew the Baatorians would be destroyed eventually, so he switched sides and fought the Baatorians in service of his new future master, or obstacle, Asmodeus. Asmodeus and Satan did battle in present-day Nessus. Asmodeus, wielding his greatsword- now transformed into the infamous Ruby Rod- clashed against Satan’s golden trident – which was an instrument in torturing souls. The energy between these two cosmic powers reduced Nessus to a desolate wasteland covered in scars. Asmodeus eventually bested Satan in 9 hours. However, due to Asmodeus crashing into Hell, he was greatly weakened and couldn’t kill Satan – though at the same time he didn’t want to. He instead imprisoned Satan and his remaining minions (except a chosen few) in a dimensional pocket beneath the Fortress Nessus, where he continues to siphon energy to heal his wounds. He became more and more diabolical in appearance as he siphoned energy from the imprisoned Baatorians. However, his true form, that of a scarred red winged seraphim, would remain hidden under his red robe. Asmodeus had now established himself as the new Overlord of Hell. At the same time he had 9 different layers to govern. He then set forth to create an ordered hierarchy of powerful devils who would rule over the other 8 layers, while he ruled them all from Nessus. He gave Zariel, a devil of war the control of Avernus where she would protect the gates from invasion. Dispater, a long-time companion of Asmodeus, received control of Dis. Mammon, a greedy Baatorian who was quick to betray Satan, received control of Minarous. Belial, another companion of Asmodeus, received control over Plegethos, which was also the site of the Lake of Fire. The Icy Serpent, Leviathan, received control over a realm most suited for him, Stygia. Lilith, a secret lover of Satan, was granted control over Malebolge. Beezebub, who had recently fallen, was granted control over Maladomini. Mephistopheles, Master of Hellfire, reluctantly accepted control over Cania, a layer of ice. Asmodeus took control of Nessus, the bottom most layer, but ultimately he controlled all nine layers. These devils became known as the Lords of the Nine. The hierarchy was set. Years later, the unexpected happened. A fallen by the name Lucifer, The Morningstar, along with few powerful fallen angels fell from grace. They landed on Avernus and made short work of Zariel and her troops. Then they proceeded to descend through the layers until they made it to Nessus (surly, if Lucifer had stopped on each layer to battle the Lords, he would not have made it as far as he did). Lucifer stepped forth and asked in an arrogant way, for Asmodeus step down from the thrown. Asmodeus, of course, refused and the two fallen angels did battle. Asmodeus eventually defeated Lucifer. However, Lucifer managed to escape and Asmodeus was left weakened (though he didn’t show it). Over the many years later, Asmodeus would mastermind a war now known as The Reckoning. The war was used to let the other Lords recognize his omnipotent power in Hell and to never challenge his power again. It was also used to weed out the weak and foolish who would be replaced by the strong and wise. Zariel, Lilith, and Moloch (who attained control of Malebolge shortly after Lilith became Queen of Hell for a brief time) would be the examples as they were replaced by devils whom Asmodeus saw as worthy. Zariel was replaced by Bel, a pit fiend more suitable in defending the Gates of Hell. Moloch was replaced mysteriously by the Hag Countess. Lilith was replaced as Queen of Hell (though she never really had the title) by a she-devil created by Asmodeus. She went by the name of Bensozia. The other Lords retained their powers, though they were punished as Asmodeus manipulated their forms. All were punished except Mephistopheles, whom Asmodeus considered a great ally for the “good” of Hell. Over the next few millenniums, Hell (or The Nine Hells of Baator) would see few changes. The first change was when Asmodeus and Bensozia mated and produced The Princess of Hell, Glaysa. The second came when Asmodeus gave Glaysa control of Malebolge, which resulted in the Hag Countess’ gruesome death. The third change came when Leviathan tried to convince Bensozia to betray Asmodeus and tell him about his weaknesses (as only the Queen of Hell would know). But since Bensozia was created specifically to serve Asmodeus, she remained loyal and wouldn’t divulge any secrets. This angered Leviathan, prompting him to assume his true form (which he was forbidden of doing after The Reckoning) and swallow Bensozia whole. This action angered Asmodeus because Leviathan was forbidden to take his serpent form and also because he swallowed The Queen of Hell. Ever since that event, Leviathan has remained imprisoned in a massive glacier on Stygia, but he still remains the Lord of Stygia. Through all these minor changes, one thing has remained the same; Asmodeus is still the Overlord of Hell. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200702-07-08, 05:53 PM | History of the Oni In ancient times long since past, the Shinto deities created a powerful race of creatures to watch over and protect humans from evil. These creatures were fearsome in appearance yet just as beautiful. They dressed in elaborate armor and wielded beautifully crafted weapons. Evil didn’t stand much of a chance against the wrath of the Oni. However, this all took place when the multiverse was still in its early stage; thus, evil hadn’t really developed yet. Over many years, evil continued to grow to numbers, which far exceeded the Oni. The task of slaying evil still remained fairly easy for the Oni until they realized that the creatures they were sent to protect were the cause of the growing evil. The humans were easily seduced by evil, which came in the forms of demons, devils, and yugoloths. They were more prone to commit evil and foul acts, than to perform good deeds. Thus, as they died, their tainted souls would find their way to the Lower Planes, which in turn would strengthen evil. The Oni had a dilemma; they were created to destroy evil, but to protect humans. Soon the some Oni decided it was right to destroy the evil humans, while others sought to reform them and save their souls. All in all, as a whole, the Oni eventually decided to rid the Mortal Coil of evil, whether it be humans or fiends. Oni, across the multiverse began slaying all evil humans and those they considered to be tainted by evil (though some were not). This action angered the Shinto Gods, however, they did not punish the Oni because that’s what they were created to do, slay evil. Instead, the Shinto deities decide to separate the Oni from the humans and place them on the outskirts of the Mortal Coil to prevent evil from crossing over. Many years passed as the Oni defended the Mortal Coil, before they realized the humans began worshipping fiends, such as Asmodeus, Orcus, Demogorgon, and many more. The humans even began summoning these foul creatures to the Mortal Coil. So against their creators’ orders, the Oni rushed back to the Mortal Coil and began brutally slaughtering these evil humans, as well as destroying altars and temples belonging to the evil entities. Though they were slaying evil, the chaos they brought with them, destroyed millions of innocent humans as well. The Shinto deities intervened and banished the Oni to the Outer Planes, where they would roam forever. They saw the Oni as failed creations and forsook them. The Oni were still persistent in destroying evil, and continued to do so in the Lower Planes. However, the Lower Planes were home to the terrible fiends and the Oni were uninvited guests. In the Outer Planes, the Oni were hunted down by fiends and slain. Most Oni, fearing extinction, sided with the fiends and betrayed their Oni brethren. As the few remaining good Oni numbers dwindled, they retreated into unknown parts of the multiverse. The Oni, which sided with evil, sought to lash out at the gods who had banished them, but could not do so directly or they’d surely meet their ends. Eventually, the Oni worked with the fiends, corrupting or utterly destroying human souls all over the Mortal Coil. As a result, they lost their mystic beauty and became nothing more than fiends themselves. Their forms were now corrupted and ugly from the years they spent in the Lower Realms. Soon, the Oni took note of the fiends and began gaining worshippers, although not nearly as much as the demon lords and arch devils. And that’s when the first ruler of evil Oni kind came into existence. He became known as Keonerru, The Dark One. Keonerru was the first of the Oni to ascend into godhood. He gained immense divine powers, as well as enhanced Oni powers. He used his divine status to gain followers, like the fiendish entities, which ruled the Lower Planes. Keonerru eventually decided now was as good of a time as any to invade the Mortal Coil. Not even the resident demon lords of the Abyss thought it was smart to invade the Mortal Coil, because they knew the celestials will no doubt get involved. However, they bolstered Keonerru’s army with demons nevertheless. The Oni Lord led his Oni and gangs of demons into the Mortal Coil, where he sought to slay countless of humans, which he blamed for the banishment of his race. The Shinto deities were no doubt gearing up to intervene against the foul Oni, but had a sigh of relief as the once hidden Oni revealed themselves. The good Oni, clashed against Keonerru’s forces on a Prime World long forgotten. However, these Oni were different from what they used to be. They were separated into four distinct groups, each having the power over a certain element; Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. Not only did they have control over their respective elements, these Oni were far more disciplined than before and looked as though they have been training for just this day. Using their newfound powers, the good Oni obliterated almost all of Keonerru’s forces with little casualties. Yet they were still greatly outnumbered as Keonerru unleashed a second wave of fiends upon them. Just then, warriors from across the Mortal Coil gathered here to help the good Oni. They too, unfortunately, found themselves outnumbered. Finally, the skies opened up, and thousands of celestials poured forth from the Realms Above. Although celestials and Oni have had few encounters with each other over the past eons, the celestials were certainly not going to stand back and watch as evil ravaged the Mortal Coil. Thus, they joined forces with the Oni and fought against Keonerru and his forces. Eventually, their numbers dwindled and the celestials retreated at the command of high ranking celestials. Once again, the Oni were left alone to fend for themselves. At this point, Keonerru personally got involved to ensure his “foolish” brethren were taken care of, before setting his sites on the humans again. The Dark One, used his deific powers to turn the tide of the battle. He slaughtered the good Oni left and right. But, the strange thing was as soon as he killed them, their souls mysteriously waded in the air, as trying to fight on. Then suddenly, the souls began gathering in one area, into one particular Oni, by the name of Hi-no-Kami. He had begun sucking the souls into a large gem in his chest. This resulted in him gaining immense strength from his fallen brethren. The few remaining good Oni who witnessed this stepped aside as Hi-no-Kami approached Keonerru. As he stepped closer he grew in size to match the Dark One’s massive size. The two did battle, alone. All the fiends and Oni stopped to watch this awesome battle. Hi-no-Kami eventually killed Keonerru in less than an hour. But, something happened that no one expected. Instead of vanishing from existence, Keonerru’s essence soared back into the Abyss. That’s when, Hi-no-Kami realized that Keonerru was a god, and gods always return to their divine realms upon death. Hi-no-Kami was enraged that he could let him get away, and took out his fury on the fiends who were foolish enough to still be around. The battle was over, and the good Oni had won for now. Hi-no-Kami set out to strengthen his dying race. He created a demiplane, now known as Onigushima, which would be placed in the Realms Above, where the Oni would know peace in the protection of the neighboring planes. Over the years, Hi-no-Kami eventually ascended into godhood as well as few other good Oni, who were strong enough to claim the title of Oni Lord. Unfortunately, the foul Oni of the Abyss had produced just as powerful Oni Lords of darkness and destruction. Hi-no-Kami knows its just a matter of time before Keonerru would recover and lead his forces back into the Mortal Coil once again, which Hi-no-Kami is undoubtedly prepared for. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200702-16-08, 11:08 PM | Quick History of: Abaddon, Angel of Destruction Abaddon, was once a great and powerful seraphim. He held great power but was unsatisfied. In the Upper Realms, Abaddon's need of constant destruction and mayhem, was not allowed. Even though he only focused his destruction at fiends, innocents were "accidently" being slain in the process. For this reason, he was banished. He soon allied himself with the demons and his reign of destruction continued. The demon lords, however, feared that Abaddon destructive ways would eventually be turned upon them. They then took action to defeat him, but they could not. Instead he was imprisoned on the 666th layer of the Abyss, which was also named after him. He has remained in that layer for eons and longs to get out and detroy the entire cosmos. Prophets have said that one day he will break free and unleash a horde of terrible creatures upon the cosmos. Also, it is stated that he will be riding a beast like none have seen before, The Apocalyptic Beast. This, however, is just a prophecy. Here are some of the terrible creatures who will be unleashed upon Abaddon's release. Two black horns curve up above on its forehead, while a golden crown rests on top of its head. Its eyes glow a baleful red. Locust demons hail from the 666th layer of the Abyss, Abaddon. They were created by Abaddon, the Angel of Destruction, who is currently imprisoned on that layer. It is said that once Abaddon breaks free of his imprisonment, millions of locust demons will follow. | RAGNAROKISCOMING200702-20-08, 02:19 PM | Eblis, The Fallen Flame Hovering a few feet in the air above you is an angel that has obviously fallen from grace. He is 11 ft. tall, with a muscular physique and handsome face. Atop his head, long, straight black hair flows freely. A flaming halo floats inches above his head. Thick, jagged, black magma plates cover the outsides of his body, while his body remains exposed towards the middle. His abdomen and back are also covered in thick plates of hardened magma. He wears a white loincloth. Four fiery wings burst from his back like a hellish butterfly. In his hands he wields a massive celestial sword that is tainted with evil. The being is Eblis, The Fallen Flame. Eblis was known as the greatest general of celestial armies. He was highly respected and had immense power. For eons, Eblis would scour the Lower Planes, vanquishing evil at every turn. Eblis soon became mad with power. He began punishing all who broke the law within his presence, whether minor or major. The punishment for breaking the law was death. Even other celestials where subject to his wrath during this brief time of his power trip. However, he didn’t kill them, but instead flung them into the Lower Planes. That’s when Michael, the Warrior Angel, made his presence known. He gathered forces to do battle with Eblis and his forces, until finally it came down to the battle between the two. Michael proved victorious, but only slightly. He then flung Eblis and his remaining minions into the Lower Planes, just as Eblis had done to many angels before him. Michael has since then taken Eblis place as the greatest general of celestial armies. By chance, Eblis landed in Baator, a place he accepted to live in due to the punishments that were being carried out by the devils against humans for their crimes in life – something Eblis instantly took a liking to. However, Eblis despised the devils, which through them, he realized how far he had fallen. He settled on the demiplane Eblis’ Hatred, created by himself, which floats throughout Baator. This way he can punish the souls of humans, while separating himself from the devils. Eblis now seeks to get revenge against Michael and the rest of the Upper Realms for what they did to him. He also hates Beelzebub, a fallen celestial, which he despised long before any of their falls from grace. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Allies: fallen devas, planetars, solars, kerubims, and seraphim, evil fire elementals. Unique Allies: Dark Flames: A group of at least 100 fallen celestials all burning with their hatred of the Upper Realms. Sundered Suns: Eblis’ 5 sons, Awar, Dasim, Sut, Tir, and Zalambur. Foes: Michael, Beelzebub, and The Upper Realms. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200702-28-08, 12:08 PM | Oberon Hovering in the sky before you is a handsome, androgynous man. He wears a beautifully crafted, shiny half-plate over flowing see-through gowns. Atop his head sits a crystal crown. He has long white hair, which hangs down his back where 2 gossamer wings sprout. His whole body is surrounded in a faint, blue light. In his hands, he wields a shimmering greatsword Oberon is the King of Fey. He rules Faerie alongside his consort, Titania. The King of Fey cares little of the "outside world" and prefers to stay within Faerie. However due to the increasing evil which has made its way to his layer, he may have to take up arms not only against the Unseelie Court, but the "outside world" as well. Titania Hovering in the sky before you, next to Oberon, is a beautiful nymph with glowing purple eyes. She is dressed in a simple see-through lavander gown, which shimmers in the light. A tiara of flowers sits atop her head. She carries in her hand a quarterstaff wrapped in vines and leaves. Titania is the Queen of Fey. It is said that she and Oberon created the entire fey race, who were once all good, but now a few are corrupted by the evil fey, which reside in the Unseelie Court. Titania, unlike Oberon, cares alot for the "outside world" and one day seeks to explore it. However, she must stay in Faerie to fend off constant attacks from the Unseelie Court and their fiendish new allies. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200703-06-08, 04:59 PM | Ancient Baatorians There are few ancient baatorians in the cosmos, though their influence can still be felt. Satan the first ruler of Baator created them all. They lived in Baator where they would punish lawful evl souls for all eternity. This, however, changed once Asmodeus and a host fallen celestials fell the Realms Above. As time went on, the ancient baatorians became little more than a myth. Recently, the baatorians are somehow finding away out of their imprisonment by either swearing allegiance to Asmodeus and his plans or by leaving Baator forever, relocating in other planes of the Lower Realms, such as Archeron and Gehenna. There are still many baatorians who’ve escaped without swearing allegiance to Asmodeus, and wonder the Hells in the shadows. These baatorians are hunted down and killed, though the most powerful destroy their pursuers before disappearing into the darkness of Hell. There also rumors going around, that each Lord of the Nine may have a few of these ancient creatures within their courts under the guise of regular devils. This rumor has yet to be confirmed, though it is true. Even though the baatorians may swear allegiance to a Lord of the Nine, almost all of them seek to free their original master, Satan. Doing so may cause internal conflict within hell, which in turn may leave them wide open to outside attacks. That is, unless Asmodeus already has something up his crimson sleeves. Baatorian Traits Baatorians possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry). - Blindsense 500 ft. - Hellfire Blast (Su): All baatorians possess the ability to produce hellfire, as they are born from it. As a standard action, a baatorian can cause an area, anywhere within 100 ft. of themselves, to explode with hellfire. The explosion is 30 ft. in diameter and deals 10d6 points of hellfire damage to all, except other baatorians, within range. Reflex DC (10+1/2 baatorian’s HD + its Cha bonus) halves damage. It is not uncommon to find a baatorian with a more powerful hellfire blast. - Immunity to fire and poison. - Resistance to acid 25 and cold 25. - See in Darkness (Su): Baatorians can see perfectly in darkness of any kind, even that created by a deeper darkness spell. Summon (Su): Some baatorians share the ability to summon others of their kind. However, since their numbers have greatly diminished, they tend to rely more on renegade baatezu or baatezu they have under their control. They can, however, summon other ancient baatorians with a 50% chance. - Telepathy 1000 ft. - They are affected by a nondetection spell with a caster level equal to their Hit Dice. Except when otherwise noted, baatorians speak Infernal, Celestial, and Draconic. |

| RAGNAROKISCOMING200703-11-08, 03:48 PM | Cronus CsR 16 Titan of Titans, The Castrator, Titan of Nature and Harvesting A titan stands before you. He appears as a middle-aged man with handsome features, a bald head, and a great white, curly beard. He wears a simple, white tunic. In his hands, he carries a massive golden sickle that is stained with blood. A crown of golden leaves adorns his head. Cronus, the youngest of the first generation of titans, was sired by Uranus, the sky, and Gaia, the earth, Cronus was bound to be great. However, he had one obstacle to overcome, his father. Gaia, having had her children, the Hecatonchires, imprisoned by Uranus, had given Cronus a great sickle. She then persuaded Cronus and the other titans to kill Uranus, but only Cronus was willing to do the deed. While Cronus laid in ambush, Uranus met with Gaia. Cronus seized his father and instantly castrated him with his sickle. He then threw the severed member into sea. From the blood that fell from Uranus onto the earth, the furies and the gigantes were produced. Eventually, Cronus overcame his father in battle, presumably killing him. From that point on Cronus would rule the titans. He took his sister, Rhea, and sired the Olympian Pantheon, though he immediately consumed them fearing that one will rise up and take his place. This plan worked for a while, until Rhea grew tired of it. Rhea switched her sixth child with a rocked and tricked Cronus into eating it. She then took her child far away from Cronus and hid him, hoping that one day the child would rise up and defeat her despicable brother. Relieved that he had prevented his death at the hands of his child, Cronus set out to conquer the universe. During this time he would encounter and slay many deities. He did battle with the greatest of gods, such as Boccob, Pelor, Heirounous, even Hextor, and managed to overcome them all. It seemed hope was lost, until a man stepped forth and challenged the terrible titan. This man had a striking resemblance to Cronus, which struck fear in his heart for he realized this was his son, Zeus. His defeat, which he had tried to prevent, was standing right before his very eyes. Zeus held in his hand, a powerful poison given to him by his grandmother, Gaia. Zeus launched the poison into Cronus’ open mouth. This caused Cronus to vomit forth all his children. When they came out, they were fully grown and furious at their fathered. Cronus fled the scene. Shortly after retreating, Cronus had gathered his titanic brethren in preparation for a war against the Olympian Pantheon- a ten-year war known only as Titanomachy, War of the Titans. The titans and the Olympians did battle, in which the titans were crushed by the Olympians who had received the help of the Hecatonchires and gigantes. Zeus imprisoned his father along with the evil titans that helped him in Carceri, where they lived to this day. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200703-13-08, 03:47 PM | Mount Orthrys This mountain towers above all structures within Carceri, and for good reason too since it houses the first generation of titans. All of whom are ruled by the Titan of Titans himself, Cronus. At the zenith of the mountain rests a titanic palace of white marble columns, ampitheaters, and galleries. The titan lord, Cronus rules this palace from the center, which is over 5 miles in diameter. His brethren, who are also titans of the first generation, make their homes around his chamber. They follow his command, knowing that if they disobey, Cronus will surely slay them. While the most powerful of the titans make their homes at the top of the mountain, lesser titans make their homes within the mountain underneath their masters. The lesser titans are also divided up depending on which titan lord they serve, whether it is Cronus, Hyperion, Coeus, or so on. Cronus obviously has the largest community of lesser titans working for him. Other notable denizens of Mount Orthrys, include the gigantes, a race of gigantic three-headed tyrants that move through the use of a mass of snake tails. The whole mountain is guarded by scores of Hecatonchires, whose job (forced upon them by the Olympians, namely Zeus) is to make sure the titans stay within. However, as time goes on, more and more Hecatonchires have gone missing, while others have joined the titans hoping to lash out at the Olympians for forcing them to guard Mount Orthrys for all eternity. Cronus is no doubt behind all this. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200703-13-08, 03:50 PM | Nilfhem The second layer of Hades, Nilfheim is blanketed in a cold, muffling fog. Vision (even darkvision) is limited to 100ft. in Nilfheim, and Listen checks suffer a –4 circumstance penalty. The land of Nilfheim is covered in dead, leafless trees, icy mountains, icy rivers, and the occasional city. The most known city in Nilfheim is also the capital, Hel. A goddess of the same name rules Hel. Those wishing to enter the city, have to either get permission from Hel herself or go through her vicious dog, Garm. Those wandering around the plane may also run into Garm by accident, while he prowls the foggy layer. Fiendish dire wolves and scores of undead call Nilfheim home. They live most in Hel, but can also be found through out the lair. Other denizens of the layer include demons, devils, and even celestials. Though, they do not live here, they are stationed here as the Blood War rages on. However, since the fogginess of the layer makes combat difficult, not many are stationed here. Hel, Goddess of Death DvR 14 Hel appears as a gaunt woman whose body is beautiful on one side and hideous and rooting on the other. She wields in her hand, on her beautiful side, a silver longsword that uses a bone as the handle. On her hideous side, Hel wears a silver gauntlet that covers her hand and forearm. The gauntlet also glows with light-blue sigils. Her hair is long, white, and unkempt. She wears a fancy dark-green robe with a fur cape held together by two golden medallions that bear her symbol. She also glows with a black aura. This goddess of death rules the entire layer of Nilfheim from the capital city, Hel. She is Loki’s daughter by the giantess, Angrboda. She, along with her fiendish brethren Fenrir and Jormungandr, were cast out of Asgard by Odin who saw them as a threat to all of the Aesir and Vanir. Since Hel was the less monstrous of the three she was given control of the foggy Nilfheim where her hideous could never be seen. Her brothers’ were treated worst, as Fenrir was forever chained up and Jormungandr was thrown into the ocean. Hel wishes to free her brothers and join her father in the destruction of all, including the Aesir. For now Hel stays within her layer and keeps to herself, while hundreds of mortals who have died of old age and sickness continue to find their souls trapped within Hel. What she does with them behind her gates, no one knows for sure. However, most believed she is up to something sinister. |
| RAGNAROKISCOMING200704-01-08, 04:16 PM | Bel, Warlord of Avernus, Lord of the First Cosmic Rank 11 Bel appears as a huge pit fiend wearing black armor. His symbol appears upon the chestplate of his armor. Bel’s head is surrounded in a collection of horns unlike normal pit fiends. His horn give off the appearance of a lion’s mane only with horns. A grievous scar closes his right eye. He grips in his hands an awkward, jagged greatsword that glows with an inner heat. Bel is the newest addition to the Lords of the Nine Hells, ruling the first layer, Avernus. Bel started out his infernal career as a general under the control of Dispater. Bel soon became hard for Dispater to tolerate, as Bel focused his attention on slaying demons along side Zariel rather than follow the Iron Duke’s orders. Dispater, fed up with Bel’s insubordination, disowned the pit fiend and cast him out of Dis. However, it was not long before Bel became important. He managed to become Zariel’s official general due to his previous victories over demons. Years later, Lucifer and a flock of fallen descended the Realms Above. Bel had little to no problem slaughtering the intruders, thanks to his militaristic mind. He, Yeddikadir, Nalebranc, and legions of devils were obliterating Lucifer’s army. Zariel, on the other hand, was unprepared and her massive army dwindled before her eyes. It is at this moment that Bel took notice of her lack of militaristic intelligence and secretly called off his forces. As Lucifer, continued to descend through the Hells, he left behind a weakened Zariel who was barely clinging to life. Bel stepped forth from the shadows, approached Zariel and her decimated forces and smiled. Zariel knew what was to come. After the conflict between Lucifer and Asmodeus had been settled, Bel seized control over Avernus after defeating a weakened Zariel. Due to his power, skills, and victories over demons, Asmodeus made Bel’s rulership over Avernus official by ascending him to Lord of the Nine status, thus replacing Zariel. Bel offered Zariel the chance of becoming his consort and she refused. Bel imprisoned her deep within his newly made Bronze Citadel. Bel then focused his attention on the endless hordes of demons bursting through the Gates of Hell and continued to stop their advances. The other Lords of the Nine hated Bel at first, seeing him as some lucky pit fiend who would soon be ousted by another treacherous devil. In truth, the Lords were seeking to dethrone Zariel themselves in order to expand their control over the Hells, and maybe even gain the favor of Asmodeus himself. Years went by and Bel grew stronger as the numbers of victories against demons continued to grow as well. The Lords began to realize Bel’s usefulness, which was the protection of the Gates of Hell – a task that came naturally to the pit fiend. Bel, as of now, has remained an active participant of the Blood War, frequenting the battlefields on Avernus. This, however, leaves Bel wide open to attacks from other ambitious devils who wish to replace him. They have yet to make a move though, fearing that Bel may already be well prepared for it. Allies: Bel’s allies consist mostly of devils since he has never left the confines of Hell. He also has a small force of mercenary yugoloths, fallen, and maybe even ancient baatorians, but that’s about it. His most notable allies are detailed below: Zariel: The former Queen of Avernus has recently been freed from her imprisoned after a deal between Bel and Tiamat was made. She now serves Bel, reluctantly, as his consort and as a powerful, experienced general. Abishai and Dragons:A deal has been made between Bel and Tiamat. For freeing Zariel from her imprisonment, Tiamat will bolster Bel’s army with legions of abishai and chromatic dragons. Bel is also obligated to prevent her children from being attacked by the devils and that they are also allowed safe passage throughout Avernus. Yeddikadir and Nalebranc:These two mighty cornungons have served as Bel’s bodyguards long before he became the Lord of the First. They still continue to serve their master with unswerving loyalty. Dark Eight: The Dark Eight are a collection of 8 pit fiends that have been leading troops against demons in the Blood War for eons. The truth behind them is that Baalzephon is the only surviving founding member. The Dark Eight consist of Baazelphon and 7 other pit fiends who have taking up the mantles of the founding members. They are know as Furcas, Zimimar, Zaebos, Dagos, Zapan, Corin, and Pearza. Goap: The Chromatic Pit Fiend has been serving the forces of Avernus since Tiamat was the ruler. Dispater: Bel has earned the enmity of Dispater who regrets letting Bel go. Dispater believes that if Bel were still under his control, then Avernus would be under his control as well, thus expanding his influence and territory throughout the Nine Hells. As of yet, Dispater has not made an attack against Bel and even supplies Bel’s army with weapons and armor forged in Dis. Malgrin: The Duke of Unlife, controls possibly one of Bel’s most easily handled army. This is because Malgrin’s army is composed of undead, which are more loyal and less troublesome than diabolic armies composed of backstabbing, scheming devils. Enemies: Bel has no major enemies, just the endless hordes of demons and celestials that flood the Gates of Hell. |
