Well, since my last post, my players are hell bent on doing a sandbox game. I fail at these kind of things, so I was wondering if anybody ever made a random terrain generator, such as "on a 10-12, this 1 mile hex contains light woods, a village, and 2 dungeons near by".

You could build one in Abulafia (http://random-generator.com/index.php?title=Main_Page). Or I could, if you can tell the things it should be able to do.

There is one in the 1st Ed DMG.

If books are accounted for, Campaign Law (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=2653) by ICE for Rolemaster may have exactly what you are looking for.

Find a copy of an old Avalon Hill game called Source of the Nile. The game starts with a basically blank map of Africa and players explore it hex by hex. It builds interesting terrain (including native tribes) easily.

Play the game, too -- it kicks Rs.
