I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on running a renaissance era game. I so far have yet to and was hoping for some help from someone with more experience in this area. Thanks in advanced! :D

Nope. It sounds pretty unique.

That's a pretty interesting idea actually. What's the magic level here?

I was kind of hoping that would be adressed..=P But I was thinking to keep the regular level of magic. Though when I thought about it, how would you deal with magically enchanted firearms? That'd be interesting. Oh and by no means is this original :D . I've sort of taken several ideas and mashed them together. Oh and as an aside, this isn't going to be a whole campaign, it's going to be the first 5-6 levels of a larger campaign. This'll be where the main baddy is able to take advantage of the situation and rise to power :evillaugh.

What causes the apocolypse
Necromancer?
Wrath of god?
Ghoul or other self creating undead?
other curcumstances?

What type of campain do you want to run what will the players be spending most of their time doing
hacking and slashing through hordes of undead
or
running for their lifes from loads of undead heres a link that may be useful http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=471897 it has an article in it on zombiegeddon campains

Ok. Let me try answering these the best I can... :D

The apocalypse is caused by the King's advisor. He himself is an undead (Lich) pretending to be human (so he could care less about being bitten). He allied with an occult, which I have yet to think of a name for. The players (if they have any sense) will be running for thier lives. I've yet to decide if the zombies are one bite transformation or killed by them, become them type things. As I said in my last post, this won't be a whole campaign thing. Also, I currently own Libris Mortis (the Book of Undead) so I think as they level up the players will end up facing more than zombies. And as to the link, it was Oakspar's zombiepocalypse in part that inspired this :D . Thanks for your help.

yea oakspar was the first person who came to mind when the word zombiepocolypse came in

the other questions where just to get a bit more info on your campian setting

those questions where the first to come to mind also in your campain

if the zombies are gonna last long make sure the players only know when the zombies jump them if they dont know then they cant prepare

Just some advise (sorry if your players dont metagame)

My campaign is vaguely Renaissance. It's called Avayevnon (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=721255). I'm not sure if it helps you at all. As to the firearms, there's no reason why magical firearms should be in any way different to other magical weapons. If a sword can be magic, why not a gun?

That's what I felt, I just wasn't sure...

And I <3 LOVE <3 YOUR CAMPAIGN SETTING!

First off, how did you make that BEAUTIFUL map? That's amazing!

Consider getting D20 PAST as a resource? How about ghouls instead of zombies? You could have the ghouls start as a small threat at first. The PCs hear of a ghoul at the cemetary. At the cemetary they discover the ghouls have been digging tunnels from grave to grave in search of meals. The tunnels lead down to a PALE CITY.The PALE CITY is a necropolis inhabited by ghouls and other undead who are beginning an invasion?RANDOM THOUGHTS

Hmm... interesting. Not quite the direction I was shooting for, but interesting none the less. Maybe I could include the "Pale City"... I'll see. Thanks everyone for all your help and can't wait to see what comes next!

Maybe something like 28 Days Later meets Pirates of the Carribean?

Like a mysterious ship arrives in port, fog ridden. The porter lifts his latern, mutters about how the pilot of the ship is clearly daft. The ship docks under its own power. There's shuffling, groaning, and then zombies power out, being led by an undead captain.

It would be interesting to see it portrayed as a virus, and bring in the ideas of germ warfare, the Columbian Exchange (which is a great book), and all those stories about the Black Plague.

(Making a mental note to include something like this a campaign I may run.)

Here's how I'd do it:
Just run it like DnD. No magic though. Add guns. Viola!

UNLIFE BOMB-A black ovoid drifts thru space till it reaches atmosphere.Moving thru the atmosphere the ovoid heats up and strange glowing runes appear on the surface. The ovoid lands in or near a city.As investigators appear the ovoid dissolves into waves of ebony energy. This energy spills into the city killing 10% of the population. As the people are reeling in shock the bodies begin to twitch.Suddenly the skeletons of the dead rip free from their bodies and begin to attack the living....THE NIGHT OF BLOODY BONES HAS BEGUN.Some ideas to work out would be who created the UNLIFE BOMB.Is there a way to defuse the UNLIFE BOMB?Are there more UNLIFE BOMBS coming?Do UNLIFE BOMBS create other types of undead?RANDOM THOUGHTS

Well that's rather bland now isn't it? :D

Hmmmm....zombie pirate ships eh? Just maybe... I'll have to think about this some.

I rather enjoyed the opening to another zombiepocalypse thread on here where the players ended up at a royal gathering/ball and the zombie was first unleashed there...(it was a scientific experiment that was presented to the public, but it killed the scientist outside the cage which lead to scientist zombie who started "brain munchin' " the crowd =P)

Maybe I could keep the gathering, have the zombie be unleashed in the middle of the ball/feast...

I'd like to include the Minions of the Skull (Libris Mortis p.176) as part of this whole epidemic...

I think I'm making the king's advisor end up as the BBEG. When the plauge starts, the royal family will be among the ones to escape upstairs in the mansion. The players will get to intereact with them and really make a connection with the family. Then, Mr.BBEG will make sure to covertly bump off the king and take over the title himself, as well as forcing the princess to marry him. The hope is that the players will then have a little more drive to take down this scumbag because of what he did/is doing to a family they connected with.

Hopefully :D

Now, things I'd like advice on:
-BBEG (the king's advisor's) name
-Wether or not the BBEG should have a darker side (Vampire, Lich, Demonic possesion/summoning ect.) and if so what?
-(The Big One) What should the players be doing in between the end of the zombiepocalypse and the overthrow of Mr. BBEG?
-Ideas on how the players can stop the zombiepocalypse

Thanks for all the help and ideas!

The Dmg has a few firearms on pg 144-146,will those be sufficient?Perhaps you could play with the ammo?Silver bullets come to mind.
