| Rockjaw05-07-07, 11:04 PM | I have a home grown world that we enjoy very much, but after seeing the creativety of this board I thought you could help me with something. I'm looking to have help "fleshing out" a inn/tavern, yes thats it 1 building. What I'm looking for is 1. Menu Items 2. Types of beverages 3. Waitstaff / House staff 4. General "hooks" about the place 5. ect. Here is the general backstory: The Huntsmens Rest is a 3 story structure, with 1 known basement level. Construction is stone and timber (first floor) with timber and dab and waddle on the top two, the roof is split wooden shakes Windows are small and spaced equally around the top two floors and in the dormers on the roof. The entrance is a large single door carved into great and elegant hunting scenes. Two single windows flank the door and a matching door and windows in the back. The common room is dominated by the bar; a great beast of carved and oiled walnut, and the stone hearth large and round. A doorway to the back leads to the kitchen and a large pantry. The owner is Agar Dawnbreaker, a human male late 50's and retired from hunting the wild-lands. Usually active behind the bar at all times. Agar is a no nonsense fellow wiht a quick grim and faster hands, he revles in good cheer and the sound of a happy room, but has no peace for troublemakers. Agar prides himself on service and great food, and strives to keep costs at a min. There you are, fill in as you see fit....... |

| shavna05-08-07, 03:44 PM | I would say a mutton or beef stew, possibly change the type of meat every couple of days for variety, as a generic cheap dish for serving to anyone. Other foods could be on a request basis for clients that could afford it. |
| Rockjaw05-08-07, 03:52 PM | Yes I have seen brotherhood of the wolf.. I like the idea of a stew, this could be the equal of a "blue plate" special |
| Anuvrix05-08-07, 05:14 PM | This Inn/Tavern brings the brotherhood cult to mind. An organization of hunters, trying to *insert something*. they meet in secret floors of basement. |
| EvilDeathBee05-09-07, 11:29 PM | Well, I'm pretty sure there's a table of alcohols in one of the books (sorry, not sure which), but for a little random fun, you could steal some ideas from the Silver Skeleton prewrite in the extras section. "House specials" and the like. |

Actually, it could be interesting to have an organization of hunters use the hidden basement as a gathering place, but it is basically just a bunch of hunters telling stories and getting togather with nothing sinister to it, it's just a secret society or club. |

Instead of just beer or ale, the Huntsmen's Rest might off dark tea, red wine, brandy, or locally made berry cordial. Stew is a good, hearty main course. Most historical taverns only offered one meal; they didn't have a "menu" where food was made to order like modern restaurants. I'd also suggest considering something with venison or rabbit, to tie back to the name. Vegetables (turnips, leeks, beets, cabbage, carrots) and bread make good side dishes. For waitstaff, some generic-y options would be a kindly, plump middle-aged woman; a teenage boy who talks of becoming an adventurers; or an attractive young barmaid. |
| Darth Sephiroth05-10-07, 04:06 PM | Perhaps have a Divine Bard strumming away in the corner, perhaps an old man who's settled down to tell stories in his retirement and is a cousin of the owner who's paying him a small bit plus tips to entertain the patrons of the tavern. I'd had one major tavern in one of my games that was an octagon in shape with a rising ring of higher levels on either side that met opposite the entrance with the bar below with the kitchen and stores underneath the platforms. The highest floor had a stage and the entire place wasw built around a massive chimney and fire though there were two others for the kitchens. It had trophies of various famout adventurers that had stopped there on the walls and an attached inn that encircled a cortyard behind with outdoor seating. A large statue of a dragon rose from the courtyard and over the Inn to link with the channels of the firepit and cooking chimneys to make it look like it was breathing smoke. |
