| Magon06-16-07, 07:09 PM | okay i'm gonna make a school here... i'l at a paragraph at a time, when i got time..... i'll post whenever i edit this post. INTRODUCTION: this school is a place where you come, as a child. think hogwarts. most people start as 10 years, then theres 1 year of bacis training, including some battle, some meditation and a little of everything, including writing and other stuff. then you chose either mythic, battle or sneak focus, for 3 years. if mythic, theres allot of meditation, studieng, and the like. for battle students there's weapon training, studing weapons, gymnastics, and the like, and sneak leans how to remain hidden, gather information and lean about alchemy and mechanics. there has always been some rivalry between the two first, as one side thinks the others are only stupid brutes, and the other thinks that the first is only geeks. sneak is mostly neutral in this struggle/rivalry. even here at the more specif, you still get a little training in something other than your focus. battle student got meditating hours, mystic has gymnastics and maybe the orcational battle, sneaking might study some magic, at a bookish level. the precise nature of the "extra" is up to the individual after those years you are normally 14. then you chose something specific, such as druid or swordsage or spellthief. then you get a chance to graduate once each year. thereafter you my become a helper if you want, which involves both learning and helping teachers teaching. also one important thing: EVERYTHING can be learned here, trunaming, incaneum, pisonic, etc etc THE SCHOOL'S AREA the school has an immense area. it's huge, even to giants and dragons. it has two BIG castles, both large enough to house at least a thousand students. these are about two miles from each other. the only thing between them is allot of plain land (what's correct grammar here?) this in occupied by students, leaning everything from hunting to druidic rituals. in the summer achademical classes are also sometimes moved outdoors. also, there's sports going on, as well as a lake more or less midways. also there are some trees here and there. around the whole schools area there are 5 castles around half as big at the really big ones. also there are HUGE forests and and a small part of a mountain range. also there are smaller building and establishments all over the place (except some places in the middle or plain or forest or mountain, that must be untouched, for some reason or another). the biggest lake is about a mile from the one between the castle, half of it in plain land, the other half in a forest. this lake got at least a 1½ mile radius, trough it might be up to 2 miles, no one's certain there are allot of lakes around the place, some are completely mundane, others are the home of dragons. this place is, pretty precise, 50 square miles. when needed, you can get a horse, without to many difficulties, or even a flying mount, but then you really must need it. THE FIRST CASTLE, UMBRTOX Umbretox is one of the big castles. although it's not official anywhere, this is the magical castle. there's a GIGANTIC library, almost half a square mile, with allot of books, on magic, swordsmanship, truname lexicons, and allot of other stuff. the west towers are the sleeping rooms and some common rooms, for playing games and stuff. it's also around here the common/normal class rooms are. the east part, on the other hand, has labs, rooms with mythic rune circles, portals to HELL, places filled with woderus and weird magical items, some that have mist that react to the slightest magical power, and allot of other stuff. one of the fameerus places withing this caste is a secret passage that leads to a room so filled with magical power that, when you enter it, you'll be granted a wish, and the room changes, twisting reality and sending you to the plane that matches your alignment best. you only get the wish once. every plane has a version of this room wich you are sent to. there are some powerful magical items, as well as some kind of devise allowing you to summon and battle monsters. if a monster sends you below 0 HP you are teleported back to the school, but you lose XP ecuqal to your lvl*100. one cannot find the room by being told where it is, but it can be showed. the area around this castle is inhabited by allot of magical biengs, and the like. that's all for now |

| Magon06-18-07, 01:54 AM | okay bup. also i might getsome more work done when i get home |
| Alltat06-18-07, 06:42 AM | Some hopefully helpful questions that came to mind while reading: With an area that large and that many expert teaches needed, along with the costs of upkeep in general, this thing must have cost a fortune to start and to keep running. Who funded it? For what reason? How do they expect to get a return on that investment? If the students start at an early age, and thus can't really have any significant prior experience or achievements, how are candidates chosen? What qualities does the school look for? Does it cost anything? What motivations do parents have for sending their children there (I'd assume not many parents would be thrilled to hear that their children wanted to pursue a career as adventurers, considering the dangers involved)? Can anyone be accepted? What do students do once they leave? Do they simply wish each other luck and set off to find their fortunes? How many of the teachers are former students, and did those that are never leave the school, or did they return their later on to share their experiences? |
| tryco06-18-07, 09:45 AM | really like this idea, here's an interesting link that might help. sigil prep (http://www.sigilprep.com/index.htm) sigil prep is also a magical school located in Sigil (the outlands)(duh). if you need help say it. maybe (if i have time) i would also post some nice ideas. PS. i would change the name. St. Bretas doesn't sound very "cool". only way i can put it. |
| Magon06-18-07, 10:05 AM | there. spelling fixed, and more added |
| MagicMouth06-18-07, 03:35 PM | Perhaps the students are divided into small groups (conveniantly named "parties"), with a member from each of the three specializations (or maybe more, depedning on the number of players). They would then be sent out on "quests": first quite simple and common ones, but eventually increasing in difficulty. If you are able, watching a few of the first episodes of Naruto could give some ideas and inspiration. No, I´m not a total fanboy of it, but it has its charm. :D |
| Magon06-18-07, 04:18 PM | Okay you'll get the next part tomorrow. anyhow, the school gets large donations from chruces 8they are helping in the training of priests), armys and militias (the school gets them soldiers, and a small part of the soldiers payment is donatet directly to the school). traveling merchants can supply food against some protection, witch also trains the students. also the school got alot of meat from hunting. not just rangers. everyone can train by hunting. it dont cost much to get in, somewhere betwen 10-50 GP. the childrem must take a test, first, but mostly to make sure they're not extramley weak or stupid, for any reason. so alot of peaple who can benefit from what the students might learn make donations, and in turn get some benfit, such as sodeiers or gaurds, dependig. some get non graduetet students. (for simple things that are close, such as gaurding a marcent a certan part of the way) others get arkers, such as souldiers and helpers, and the students are promiced a waork if they want it. a win win situation. |
