| Darth Sephiroth03-10-07, 06:31 PM | Note: A lot of the ideas for this are inspired by the 300 and other such things. I'm aiming at running a single oneshot for a time where several of my groups are at low strength due to weekends and few people being available. Legends speak of those who stand against the odds and even until their last breath fight with their all. I'm aiming at a low magic last stand adventure at decent levels, I'm gearing for level 12. I want to limit caster classes to 1/2 total levels (Meaning for every level of a caster class you take you have to have at least 1 non-caster level.) or classes with casting built in at later levels like the Ranger and Paladin. However I am allowing the ToB classes into this. The players will be warned that their characters will probably die in this. I'm aiming for an area to keep enemies from comming through and sending wave upon wave of them at the party. Any ideas? |

I've liked all your campaign ideas so far. :) Ideas for locales: Bridge An ancient and well built (perhaps dwarven) bridge that spans a wide and deep chasm in the mountains. There's a way around, but its days away and the terrain is formidable. Portal A portal has been opened to the Pit. Its up to the heroes to stand against the hordes of the Underworld that have assembled on the other side. Beachhead This is Saving Private Ryan with a bit of 300 mixed in. With the imposing sea-cliffs of the region, the only possible place for the opposing force to land is a small strip of beach. Undermountain Deep in the caverns under the Worldspine Mountains the dwarves stand against the vile horde of goblins. The dwarves built a fort where the caverns narrow before opening into their kingdom, and the heroes have to defend the site at all costs. Hope the ideas help. |

| Darth Sephiroth03-10-07, 09:33 PM | All of those work, I like the idea of the legendary stand against countless enemies |
| yellowdingo03-11-07, 01:49 AM | You are probably looking for something like "The Bunker". A Scary film where NAZIS are hold up in a bunker built in a pass. Located in a cave that had been used for the same purpose for millenia. There are bodies in the deep icecaves that go back to before the roman Times. Bodies from every age and technology. They just held the pass from that cave since the early deer herds migrated past cavemen. |
| rbingham200003-20-07, 05:33 PM | Narrow passes are always good for final stands, as evidenced by the Battle of Thermopylae (which 300 is based upon) and the Battle of Agincourt at least a thousand or so years later. It has the advantage of funneling enemy numbers into something a little more manageable for a small group of warriors, which is why Leonidas chose the spot for his Spartans to battle it out. |
| Darth Sephiroth03-20-07, 05:57 PM | I did run it and had 7 players of level 12 in a long pass with a deep crevase in the middle with natural bridges linking a path on each side and the two paths were 25 ft wide each. They racked up over 2 thousand kills in before the last of the party died. Party Elion [Aassimar Paladin] He used the Paladin Spirit Summoning variant. Also managed to be the last survivor of the group after taking down a Half Dragon Wartroll by destroying one of the bridges under its feet when he was already at -9 HP. Cael Maxwell [Human Monk/Fist of Zuoken] Fast and deadly in this one, dropped when taking out two War Elephants in the same round only to be taken out by the archers on the back of the second one before it died instead of stabilizing. Dorn Thunderchild [Dwarf Barbarian/Frenzied Berzerker] Racked up the largest number of kills of any of the players, fell when he got to far away from the rest of the party Sevrass [Dragonwrought Kobold Ranger] Another death by getting to far away from the others, he fell in combat with an Ogre and 16 Orcs that had him outgunned and penned in, he managed to kill all but one of the Orcs and kill the Ogre Cage Dawn [Human Crusader] Nigh unstoppable until he was killed against a Balor while trying to reach Dorn. Alexander Highwind [Human Scout (Dragoon Build)] Almost made it to the end by sheer luck and the best stat rolls of the party (nothing below a 16 in starting stats). At one point cleared the entire area in a round. He was torn to shreds when an enemy summoned a Hellfire Wyrm into the pass, managed to kill it but was above the chasm, but was killed when the thing crushed him. Toshi Horaki Elven Samurai (OA)/Warblade One of the more memorable deaths, fell while holding off a contingent of goblins while Elion patched up Cage and Dorn after some bad rolls. Killed numerous enemies without taking a step |
| KeshFerrar03-20-07, 06:42 PM | Pittng a Balor and a Hellfire Wyrm against a 12th level party? Even if there are 7 of them, wow. What plot line did you use? What was the rest of the opposing army? Need more details. |
| Darth Sephiroth03-20-07, 11:13 PM | Basically it was the simple army of evil headed sent by a powerful wizard. Both the Balor and the Hellfire Wyrm were summoned creatures I'd decided to use when the session was winding down due to time. |

Sounds like this wizard could have single handedly done all the fighting himself and not had a chance of losing. |
| Darth Sephiroth03-20-07, 11:54 PM | The guy was pretty much running an empire while sending forces to do most of the conquering for him. I'd made items that lets a caster cast a single spell at another location, the enemy general had two of them. Plus Greater Planar Ally is not a cheap spell to cast. |
