I have made this world for books I am writing. Stuff currently had right now: Timeline of sorts, Continents, New Races-no stats.
Here's the timeline-
System of Dating used: BDB-Before Dragons Birth, BDK-Before Dragon King, BMD-Before Mephisto Draco, BTV-Before Tyre's Vale, BMT-Before Man-Kan Tor, AMD-After Mephisto Draco's death, ATV-After Tyre's Vale's destruction. Note from Editor: These dates are used exclusively in regards to where they have the most credence. Most pre-dragon information is not had. Sources of Information are also mentioned if applicable.

500 BDB-Tarshish is created by the two great Dragon Gods. Draconus, the first dragons comes into existence 50 years later. He fights the Titan Lords for the Elemental powers of the Dragons and creates them amd is accomponied by Peregrine, a falcon. 1 BDB (Memoirs of Draconus, 2nd edition; Memoirs of Peregrine Falcon)

0 BDB-Dragons of all twelve Chromatic and Metallic colors are born. Ten are selected and made the Dragon Gods. Dragons travel and begin to explore the world around them. Some begin to claim terrorities and lairs. (History of the Dragons, Volume 1)

10500 BDK-Draconus dies with his bride Artaxerxes. Dragons create the Dragon Totem to honor him and name their race, Dracons or Dragons. Slowly among the Dragons the first taints of Evil begin to appear. A castle is built from a living dragon. It is a symbol of Evil Dragon power. Christened Castle DragonFang, it is a horror beyond comprehension. (History of the Dragons, Volume 1)

10000 BDK-Dragon Wars begin. Minotaurs are used as frontline troops by both sides, with the other forces used. 10000-105 BDK-Dragon Wars rage across Tarshish's lands. Many dragons are killed and vast numbers of animal and plant life die. Due to Minotaur problems of them slaying their comrades, the Dragons take a large group of Elves and experiment on them, creating the Vrall Race. (History of the Dragons, Volume 1, History of the Vrall)

105-50 BDK-Tillyia, a silver dragon, betrys his fellow Metallics and is banished. First appearence of Magic occurs. The Dragon Wars enter there most brutal and deadly stage. (History of the Dragons, Volume 2)

50-0 BDK-Tillyia is chained beneath the earth in a tomb and renamed Apocalypse. He is set to return in due time. The warblade, Iceshard, is constructed and given the power to slay Tillyia. The Necrolamare dragon clan is formed. The Dragon Houses appear: House Draco, House Tor, House Kasa, House Of Rage, House of Death. The House of Death joins with the House of Rage to form the Necrolamare and uses its agents to bring an end to the Dragon Wars. The Necrolamare makes the Office of Dragon King, Ruler of all the Dragons. (Chronciles of the Dragon-King, Volume 1)

0 BDK, 40 BMD-First Dragon is appointed. Mephisto Draco's family settles in the region of Eregion in southern Mauritonia. Mephisto's grandfather, Abraxes Draco builds a small farm. Archimedes becomes the first Dragon Sage. Vrall divide into small tribes and move to areas where they live. (History of the Dragons, Volume 2, History of the Vrall)

20 BMD-Bron, a black Dragon, is appointed dragon king. He selects as one of his councilors, Traybor-a blue dragon. Abraxes dies and his son Alders leads the family. (History of the Dragons, Volume 2)

25-5 BTV-Mephisto finds the legendary valley of Tyre. There he locates an area of land that he records and builds the layout of a city. He names his proposed city- Tyre's Vale. Mephisto returns home to find Krusk in a state of vicious civil war. He rallies a portion of the people and leads them to Tyre's Vale. (History of Tyre's Vale

Due to his armies failure, he strengthens the plainslands and begins slowly rebuilding forces. Man-Kan Tor is born and is placed in a Gladiators camp. He is trained alongside Jas Kasa as Gladiators and both become important prize-fighters. (Great Legends, Man-Kan Tor and Jas Kasa)

Man-Kan becomes involved with Bron and enters into his service. Eventually Jas joins Mephisto. (History of a Hero)

1 year pre AMD-The pillars of the Dragons light up indicating that the Dragon Totem will return. A group of future heros from Varkenhawk in Hawken, observe the event; totally unaware of the part they would play in Tarshish's history. The adventurers meet Mephisto who attempts to have some of them killed and the rest imprisoned. The Heroes escape with Man-Kan's help who has join to deliver Bron's message to Mephisto. The heroes flee to Varkenhawk where they are pursued by Mephisto's armies. Varkenhawk is destroyed and Heroes agree to help Bron out. They are sent north to meet Archimedes and assist him in locating the Dragon Totem's current location. After a series of events, the heroes are betrayed by one of their own and Vagdron falls to Mephisto. His forces move north as he plans to defeat Hawken. The Heroes find the Totem's location and travel there. Man-Kan kills Jas Kasa. The Heroes kill General Reavor and secure the Totem. They disappear. Mephisto is killed by Traybor and Elf, an elven fighter at the Battle of DragonHawk. Mephisto and his Black Dragon mount both die as well as Traybor. Iceshard vanishes after the battle. Man-Kan returns to Bron with Archimedes; neither telling the Dragons what happened in the caves where the Totem was found. (The Fall of Mephisto)

5 years AMD-Man-Kan settles down marries. Bron watches Mephisto's descendents rule Tyre's Vale. Man-Kan retires from adventuring. Archimedes begins penning the great Timeline of Tarshish, a history of the world. (The Fall of Mephisto)

6 AMD-This is the current year. (Archimedes Current histories-History of the Dragons Volume 3)

Note from Archimedes: Much of Tarshish's history is omitted in this Timeline, being a record of major historical and world-changing events. Further histories are contained within Tarshish: Chronciles of History.

Here is a further Timeline: It mostly uses Pre-ATV, Then ATV. Also used is BVD-Before Valkryie Draco. BMaD-Before Marquardt Draco. BRB-Before Rose Baron. Further terms are explained. Current time (The Current Time will jump around some. I plan to make it more succint. Bron is alive through up to the events of the Golden Age, so he will remain. Derkham and his friends' history will be included as well. Current year can be any up to last point of timeline. This is too keep it simple) Note from Editor: Tyres Vale replaces all other mentions of the city; being the correct name.

7 AMD, 400 Pre-ATV, 400 BVD to 50 Pre-ATV-Various blood descendents of Mephisto rule his empire. A small civil war among Hestus Draco and Werkan Draco lasts 3 months. Both are killed by Faychak Draco. He rules for some 50 more years, after which his daughter, Queen Nicas takes over. She lasts some 57 years as Queen, ruling in a time of peace for the Empire. Various short-lived rulers take the throne after Nicas son Falchion takes over. He is murdered by his own daughter, who rules and is killed by her own daughter and so forth till Avernia is Queen. Her son is born, Valkryie Draco. Valkryie travels around and finds a group of elves. He mets the daughter of a king and the two follow in love. The Elven king gives his blessing, knowing who Valkryie is. Valkryie chooses to once his son is born to return to Tyre's Vale and change the Empire. Unfortunely, the Elven elder's council find this unacceptable and ends up killing the Princess. The King flees with Valkryie's son, Marquardt while he is exiled on pain of death. Valkryie returns home and marshalls the armies.

50 Pre-ATV to 1 Pre-ATV-Marquardt comes of age and has two sons: Dochal and Tyranniciar. Both are in their mid-20s when Marquardt fights his father Valkryie. Valkryie launches a series of new campaigns and takes terrorities over. Marquardt gathers a group of friends: Sherbrooke Kharzod, a dwarf. Rochefar, A human Mage.

End of Tyres Vale-Marquardt destroys Castle DragonFang. He leads free armies of the free people of Tarshish agaisnt Tyres Vale's forces. Valkryie and Marquardt both are killed in the last battle. Valkryie becomes Lich Draco and the Evil dragons made to serve Tyres Vale betry it, destorying it.

Foundings of an Empire: The four city-states of Aterus are formed with the following names-Republic of Tyranniciar, Barony of Dochal, Kingdom of Kharzod, Magocracy of Rochefar.

1 ATV (5 BRB) to 15 ATV-4 City-states of Alterus are founded. Rochefar is officially founded after the War of the Rose Baron. After some years pass, the current grand duke of Tyranniciar dies and the Rose Baron is made Duke. After Dochal attacks lands that Rochefar is supposed to own, the Baron leads Tyranniciar's forces in repelling the attack. He defeats Dochal and marries the Countess. After sighing a treaty officially creating Rochefar, The Rose Baron returns home and leads the people.

15 ATV to 15000 ATV-Sections during this time are divided as follows:

15 ATV to 7150-Age of the Dragons. The Dragons in Tarshish have several difficulties with other races during these times. At the end of them, Armagosa, a red dragon is made Dragon King.

7150 ATV to 1000 ATV-Begining of the Golden Age of Tyranniciar. Tyranniciar defeats several rising warlords who attempt to take Mauritonia. Peace fills the Republic.
1000 ATV to 14500 ATV-The Golden Age. Tyranniciar lies in peace, while its neighbors wage conflicts with one another. During this time, Armagosa dies and Lon Shayak, his half-dragon heir takes over.

14500 ATV to 15000 ATV-Minor problems slowly begin to plague Tyranniciar. The Golden Age is drawing to a close. In 14825 ATV, Valeria Draco's son, Alderus is born. He is raised by his father, Valeria and later meets Vahlana who he travels with some until finding Lor'gas. 14759 ATV-Derkham Noss is born in Mauritonia.

14965 to 14985 ATV-Lor'gas Tor is born to Virduan Tor in Estovia. He is raised as a blackguard and becomes a Death Knight. He is given the rank of General and is named General Blackhand. Lor'gas leads a series of Campaigns to take Mauritonia for the Evil Dragons. Some 20 million die.

15000 ATV-The Four companions meet and begin traveling together. In 15000 ATV, Rochefar is attacked by forces and its capital, Rochef falls into civil war. The four companions head north after been hired by the Duke of Tyranniciar. They quell the war, stop a series of attacks from Dochal and put Lich Draco to rest. They return to Tyranniciar as heroes. The four decide to go to Mauritonia.

New race-Vrall

Note from Archimedes: Information regarding Vrall is mostly comprised from actions in battles and surviving soldiers' accounts. Some information is from Vrall sources.

During the Dragon Wars, Minotaur troops would usually fight amongst themselves greatly. Since Minotaurs could not be trusted to fight agaisnt their enemies, The Dragons realized they needed something more usable. Taking a large group of elves, they experimented having with them, creating what would later be known as Vrall. Vrall resemble elves, except as follows: Vrall are more muscular with leaner bodies and can travel at great speed. They are taller than Half-Orcs, with long out-stretched pointed ears. This allows them to hear better. Vrall are somewhat more healthy than elves and so are not as fragile.

Vrall Cultural Tendecies: Vrall live in small tribes comprisiing some 1000-2500 members on average. Some tribes are larger and others are smaller. Vrall all have innate resistent towards Psionics and psionics-like effects/abilities. Vrall hate Psions, execept those who are Vrall and part of their tribe. Psions who demostrate their power should be cautious, Vrall can recognize Psions instantly. Vrall tend to be unfriendly towards Psions, coming close to violence. Any Psions who uses his Psionics on a Vrall causes the entire Tribe to go Hostile. Vrall were trained by the dragons to destroy Evil Psionic Dragons and their Psionic allies. This cultural hatred is shared by all Vrall, regardless of their Tribal Standing(If in a Tribe or not)

Vrall are ruled by Elders and a Chieftain. They have Shamans who speak to the Gods for the Tribe's benefit.

Vrall Way of Life: Vrall live a structured life of Training for War and combat. All Vrall Children are trained Combatants, before moving into different paths. Vrall paths are usually: Combat, Magic, Divine, Rogue. Vrall tend to these paths most frequently. Vrall tend to produce more Sorcerors than Wizards, hinting at the magical experiments conducted on their forbear Elves by the Dragons. Vrall speak a form of Elven, but use Dwarven runes for it. Vrall are good with weapons and can fight with almost anything they pick up.

Religion: Vrall mostly worship the woodlands Dragon God, Although some tribes worship others primarily combat Gods. If there is a Vrall Pantheon, they don't mention it.

Very little else is known, and A small group of Sages are currently in the Field trying to acquire more data regarding this culture and race of Warriors.

New race-Dragonprince

Dragons with mortal shells (look like other races), Dragonprinces can be born into any race. They live as long as dragons do.

Things out: Gnomes, Planar other than angels/archons, demons/devils.

Continents:

Continent of Alterus
Alterus houses four nations-Republic of Tyranniciar, Barony of Dochal, Dwarven kingdom of Charzod, Magocracy of Rochefar

Lands of Mauritonia-The Battleground
Mauritonia is where most the fighting in Tarshish's history has taken place. It is up of several smaller City-Nations, which comprise 5-7 cities in each. These small nations appear and disappear rapidly as new would-be conquerors expand their empires before falling into death.

Continent of Estovia
Estovia is a name spoken in whispers, considering that it is home of the Evil dragons that makes since. The black guard orders and the Death Knights, The order of the Black Fang call this dangerous place home.

Dragon Isles
A sacred place, few non-dragons go here.

Forgotten Realms/Lands-Merovingia
Dark and Sinister, the Forgotten Lands are rarely visited. Those who go here never return and those from here never go back. None know what is present here, but Archimedes, the great Red Dragon sage is believed to have said that Death and undead rule in the Forgotten Lands.

Have further details later.

If you're going to write a book, I would HIGHLY suggest not using the D&D dragons. Please.

The timeline is very confusing because of your multiple methods of denoting time periods.

If the crowning of the first Dragon King is the big historic event, it might be simpler to simply set two eras: Before this, and after.

At 10,000 BDK the dragon wars begin - Who are the sides? Why are they fighting? Does it seriously take 10,000 years to be resolved?

I was also a little confused who was a dragon and who isn't, perhaps a list of characters would help.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news here but you might want to change the name of this world to something else. Tarshish is way too akin, suspiciously so, with "Tarhisis".

Here is the important Characters list with what race they are:
Mephisto Draco-Human
Man-Kan Tor-Human
Draconus-Unknown
Peregrine-a falcon
Tillyia-Dragon
Necrolamare-Dragon
Cabal-Dragon
Abraxes Draco-Human
Archimedes-Dragon
Bron-Dragon
Traybor-Dragon
Alders-Human
Jas Kasa-Human
Valkryie Draco-Human
Marquardt Draco-Human
Rose Baron-Human
Hestus Draco-Human
Werkan Draco-Human
Faychak Draco-Human
Queen Nicas-Human
Falchion-Human
Avernia-Human
Dochal-Human
Tyranniciar-Human
Sherbrooke Kharzod-Dwarf
Rochefar-Human
Countess-Human
Armagosa-Dragon
Lon Shayak-Human Red Half-Dragon
Valeria Draco-Human
Alderus-Human Red Half-Dragon
Vahlana-Human
Lor'gas Tor-Human
Derkham Noss-Elf Half-Vrall
Virduan Tor-Human

Who are the sides?

The two sides are: Good Dragons versus Evil Dragons, Chromatic Dragons versus Metallic Dragons, All non-dragons who must pick sides.
Why are they fighting?

The War started when a flight of golds attacked a flight of reds they didn't like. The reds retaliated by attacking those golds and other ones. The other golds attacked those reds and other reds, including some blues. It goes on this way for 2 weeks before almost all of the dragons are fighting. They then split into opposing forces seeking to destroy the other, creating massive armies to do battle...
Does it seriously take 10,000 years to be resolved?

Yes. Within only 5 years the original instigators are dead. The sides continue fighting, their reasons being to destroy the other side. The conflict as a whole functions as a see-saw, with advantage favoring one side then the other.

After 10,000 years Necrolamare seeks to end the conflict. He does so by rallying the dragons to fight Tillyia who raises an army of the dead to rule the world which would only possess undead. The aftermath of the conflict results in changes, which is way they are not like standard D&D dragons I.E. trying to destroy the other.

Tarshish is way too akin, suspiciously so, with "Tarhisis".

You are going to need to explain this.

Too complicated. I read through about 1/4 of your post and got completely lost. Seriously, too much shifting and as said before, too many time periods. Maybe it's all set in your head, but it isn't put down so that we can understand it, and unless you digress, in detail on each and every "character" in that list, as well as the things they did, the initial post won't make sense, to anyone.

Break down what is important to you, toss the rest. I would recommend tossing 1/2 of everything you put up there, and then adding detail to what you keep. Most players will shrug at all of this detail and say "Where I can buy a new suit of armor?" or the like. Create 2, MAYBE 3 time periods, and stress, in detail, what happened on a basic level in each. As well as why there was a change. The way us humans deal with time IRL? A prophet of a major deity was born and changed the way a large portion of the world lived and still lives to this day over 2000 years later. So, you will need something important, with long-lasting changes involved in order to create a new time period that would be found as important world-wide.

All of your entries regarding times and dragons? They say nothing of what this person is, what race, what they did, or their personalities. A job title and time of entering it is no good to anyone. You'll need to flesh it out, or there's no point in having it, at all. Bear this in mind before you tear out those entries. Which of those has done something that will be remember 5000 years later? Did the king rule an empire, or did it expand it and crush its competitors? Kings that simply rule and don't do anything special get exactly what you have listed in the history books. Name, date of birth, date of ascension to the throne, and date of death. Thats it. In a game world, if they rank on that level, they shouldn't be created by the DM, as it is a waste of time to consider them beyond saying "In this time period, nothing special happened, I'm moving on."

(Here is the timeline with things changed)
Eras: Before the Dragonwars, The Dragonwars, Before Tyre's Vale Empire, Tyre's Vale Empire-divided between rise/fall, After Tyre's Vale Empire.

Before the Dragonwars: During this time, many cities and empires were built. A few empires expanded and claimed alot of land before collapsing. This was a time of peace and prosperity. This era's end was marked by growing hosilities between the dragons.

The Dragonwars: Conflict raged across the land during this time. Almost every city or empire founded the wars were destroyed or changed.

Will finish later.

Ok, you've dropped the details, added extremely vague descriptions, and still have too many time periods. You need to find a happy medium. Pick a handful of key NPC's that revolve around world changing events. Detail those, and the events involved. Have 1 or 2 be centered on the changing of an era.
Tsochar

03-02-08, 06:44 PM
Here's a thought: You have 2 events with beginning, middle, and end each. That doesn't make sense, since you have 3 timelines in each. Why not just take one event from each of them and divide into 3 separate timelines instead?

Case in point: The Romans used "the X year of Emperor Y" in naming years. We don't, even though Jesus (having lived within the Roman Empire) probably did. We don't use "BC, DC, AD" (DC being During Christ), and we probably wouldn't even if he lived for 500 years. We'd still go by his birth.

If you absolutely must have these events, I suggest you use:
-Declaration of war OR declaration of armistice
-Founding of the Empire.

Even if you're hesitant to use empire era years, since the empire fell, consider this: We are a largely secular society, but we still use the AD era for convenience. In addition to that, most empires go through a long decline before falling, so there isn't usually much widespread cause for a new era when they do.

Also, I noticed this:

If you're going to write a book, I would HIGHLY suggest not using the D&D dragons. Please.
Sure.
and then this:
good Dragons versus Evil Dragons, Chromatic Dragons versus Metallic Dragons,... golds.... reds.... blues...
So I'm a bit confused here.

EDIT: one more thing:
Tarshish is way too akin, suspiciously so, with "Tarhisis".
....which doesn't exist anywhere else on the internet. There doesn't seem to be any problem. Do you mean Hashish, the drug?

Can you be a little more clear? Its very hard to cut things down to a basic level without it being vague. If I need to cut out entrys in the system of dating-not having so many, I can do that.

Thats basically what I meant. You are doing too much on the surface, which will confuse, and turn off your players when they come into contact with it. Then, on the other hand, not enough beneath the surface. So, when the players who actually suffer through learning all of the stuff on the surface delve deeper, they will wonder why they bothered when they come up with nothing beyond that.

Prioritize what is necessary, ditch the rest. Take the things that are necessary, and go into more detail, expand on them. So, when the PC's encounter them, you can make an actual encounter, or adventure out of them. You are creating a campaign setting here, running into these epic things from the past should trigger a significant event for the PC's. Not just a 3 sentence blurb that leads nowhere except to the conclusion of "Oh, well thats cool. I didn't know that."
