| DropXero54004-17-07, 05:18 PM | heres the Scenario. Two to Five Players are holed up in a location that provides them unlimited ammunition and relatively good cover. Theres no bottleneck to funnel enemies into, but they can still make the numbers less meaningful (insert "300" reference here). So... 2000 CR 1/4 creatures. Lets say, basic goblins. versus 2-5 PCs with ECLs of 9-11 depending on which character it is. Even with those numbers, its overpowering. But, say they beat it... what kind of XP/Rewards are we talking here? |
| CryoSilver04-18-07, 02:05 PM | None; XP is calculated baed on CR, and you get no XP for monsters of CR less than your ECL-8. If it was me in the group, I'd have the wizard drop a Wall of Stone, then just drop the fighter into the opening he left and lay waste. It'd be pretty boring. |

He casts stoneskin on himself, then fly, then zooms up to 760 feet over their heads and rains hell on them. If you are indeed using MM goblins, equipment and all, then they would need to make an attack roll at -48 for excess range increments (24.333... excluding that first 30 feet the javelin's good for.) If by some chance one of the goblins manages deuce 20's, the poor little bugger can only manage a max of 4 damage (I believe he can't crit because he cannot actually hit the wizard's AC due to excessive range, correct me if I'm wrong though.) The wizard would need to take 37.5 hits at max damage before worrying about casting another stoneskin. He'll be flying for 9 minutes, and will most likely run out of fireballs long before that. He could still be killed with triple 20's, if you use that variant rule. I'm going to assume you will use average rolls, so he would still get hit, but don't use averages for the entire group, since they wouldn't all be able to attack without an even greater range penalty. Even if you did, I think only 5 of those goblins would hit anyways, per round. (Again I never use averages, so someone correct me if I am in error) The other guys could just clean up. |
| Yayhya04-18-07, 08:21 PM | Well some work is needed to overcome the foe, thought there is no chance of danger so i would rule no XP, if your using Heroes Of Battle you could awarded the party Victory Points, or perhaps they have to hold the point and do something else, or part of the party holds the point and another part finds a way to seal it off . . . (landslide anyone.) Now if i were running this encounter i would give each player exactly didaly squat . . . unless i was using Heroes Of Battle, then maybe they'd earned a few victory points. Thats just my :twocents: |
