| turalisj05-05-07, 05:22 PM | This is an attempt at making (in my view), the perfect campaign world. Lots of ancient tech to dig up, mysteries abound, and over-controlling theocracies. The Razed lands is a fairly large continent, about the size of South America, with an area of about 16,000,000 sq. miles. However, this is not including the island of Kaerk'Mar, where the kobold tribes reside, or the many natural harbors. Within the continent, there are a wide and varied amount of biomes. To the south east is a desert, where the ancient empire of the gnomes once was. Much of the southern half of the continent is either plains land or thick forest. A deep fissure seperates the southeastern and southwestern parts of the continent, where some say they can still hear the spirits of the underdark screaming out. Seperating the northern and southern halves of the land is the Dragoncrest mountains, where only the hardiest survive, namely the dwarves, goblins, raptorans and goliaths. A walled trade city guards the easiest pass through the mountains, where it flourishes from the trade. To the northeast is the Elven kingdom, while to the northwest is the inhospitable land known as the dreadlands, the lands where the undead rule and life is snuffed out. |
| turalisj05-07-07, 11:52 PM | Here is the first of several countries, Draxier the Bejeweled Empire History: Draxier was at the front of the combat during the Razing. Each of the provinces of the kingdom lost many of it's children, and only the capital of Illuvire escaped heavy damage. Before the Razing, Draxier was a nation in strife. The provinces constantly waged war, while the Enlightend Empress secretly constructed weapons powerfull enough to bring down the mountain. That all changed during the Razing. The Corruption spread quickly through the warring states, slaughtering hundreds and leaving the land scorched. It took the near collapse of the empire to bring the provinces together. The Enlightened Empress, gone mad with her power, was killed by her daughter who took the throne. With a single command, she gathered what forces could fight and brought them to Illuvire, along with any who could be of use. With that final stand, they braced themselves for the conflict. The fighting lasted a year and a half, costing thousands of lives. Now, Draxier is one of only a handfull of nation's to come out of the Razing in some ways improved. The provinces had united, and a new Enlightend Empress had arose. The provinces: There are seven provinces: Kintera, Ectind, Damasin, Aerth, Ulysin, Vraer, and Iluvir. The first six pay homage to Iluvir, where the Empress lives. Each one has a seperat army and maintains it's own laws, except those proclaimed by the queen. Kintera: The second most powerfull of the provinces. It's people are the most militaristic of any province, and has the largest standing military. It lies in the northwest edge of the empire, where attacks by monsters are common. It has mostly a plains terrain, with the Dread Desert touching the farthest ends. |
| queenfange05-10-07, 01:50 PM | So... are you looking for input/ideas/praise/what? |
| turalisj05-10-07, 05:40 PM | Some ideas would help. I'm still working on the first country. The provinces are going to be based around the six diffrent psionic disciplines, with the exception of a light and dark based province.... |
| queenfange05-10-07, 05:55 PM | Well, I like the concept, but have you decided on the basics (races, classes, and similar)? You said you're going to use psionics; do they replace or merely supplement magic? Since each of the provinces represents a different type of psionics, is it perhaps a secret trait of the ruling family, or merely the one most commonly found and fostered amongst the people of that land? |
| turalisj05-10-07, 06:32 PM | It's as common as a nuclear weapon is nowadays. It doesn't exist outside the kingdom. As for races, I'm keeping it basic. The core races, along with xeph's and Elans. For classes, the core classes are common along with the psionic classes. Those from the complete series (arcane, divine, and warrior), each have a nation planned out somewhere in the future... Basicly, it isn't uncommon to see an elite guard of soulknives and psions walking the streets. The noble families get trained in the ways of the ardent, and there are several academies devoted to psionics. I still have stuff to flesh out, since I mostly write this stuff down during study hall. |
| queenfange05-10-07, 07:08 PM | In your first post you mentioned theocracies. What's up with the deities in your world, or have you worked much on that yet? |
| turalisj05-10-07, 08:03 PM | There are two that I have planned out- a tyrannical theocracy ruled by priests of Hextor who brainwash thier people, and a more or less union between most other religeons. I have the tyrannica one done, and am working on converting it to text.... |
| turalisj05-27-07, 07:43 PM | The dieties: Most of the dieties in the Razed Lands are draconic. They are not the original gods of the land, for those dieties had left the Razed Lands many eons ago. The current pantheon, including Bahumut, Io, and Tiamate, see themselves as either the caretakers waiting for the old gods to return, or ursupers who now claim the lands. For the most part, each god or goddess stays in thier own territory. Wars between each domain is a rarity, except for the rare cahnce when Tiamate can unite her followers and lead a crusade/jihad/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. Could I get more than one poster replying? Please.... |
| queenfange05-27-07, 08:14 PM | :bump: How's that? So, you using standard dragon deities out of Dracomonium or making your own? I'd recommend doing a few of your own, but then again I love making my own deities. :D Areas are like theocracies, or at least the patron deities are determined primarily by region? I like this; it's a departure from the essentially class and race based pantheon of the Player's Handbook. If you want help designing dragon deities, post again... :) |
| turalisj05-27-07, 08:18 PM | I'm using the Dracominocon dieties as the primary gods, along with some minor gods that the DM can make up. I got the idea from the Dreamers series, where each god has a domain he/she is in charge of. They have some limited control over the domain of another, but they cannot outright kill someone. |
| queenfange05-27-07, 08:21 PM | Are you going to fit the nations to the deities or vice versa? |
| turalisj05-27-07, 08:30 PM | I'm going to piece them together as I go. When I run out of dieties, I'll be done with the countries..... *dashes off to work on them* Btw, if you have any country ideas, feel free to post them. |
| queenfange05-27-07, 08:39 PM | One of your early posts was about a land with six psionic provinces. What sort of deity you going to do for that? If you don't have an idea yet, can I design one?!? (I need an interobang [sp?]...) |
| turalisj05-27-07, 08:43 PM | http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=853869 I don't have any descriptions for them, so you can go wild with that :P |
