I will begin outward and work my way inward. Basic Cosmology As it has been described to me, the Material Planes reside on the Shadow Plane, which interlinks all planes in a continuous line. These planes are realities that are infinite. My cosmology introduces an alteration of the linear Shadow Plane. In the cosmology of the Shattered Planes, there is a planar anomaly known as the Umbra, a plane like other planes except that it is a perfect Shadow Plane, and from it are linked near-infinite "streams", which the realities are linked to. In Astral space and the multiverse's entirety, the Shattered Planes reside close to the Umbra. At this time, the cosmology consists of four separate sets of Material, Transitive and Inner, one for each of the three Material realities. There is the world known as Kasmacalau, a world with dying support planes and with a wild form of reality. This dying world is interpreted by some religions as a "Hell". There is the world known as The Dread Realm (name work in progress). This realm is actually partially consumed by the Umbra itself and the natives of this plane are in a constant struggle with the denizens of the Shadow. This realm is a horrific reality where good-spirited folk are rare. There is Aalican, a realm nearly devoid of magic. Magic in these realms is drawn, with exceptions, from the Plane of Shadow. Aalican is constantly eclipsed from the "Dark Winds" by Kasmacalau. Every thousand years, the world is infested with wild magic. And finally, there is E'yané, the "true" material plane. This is the realm that is focused on most in the setting and it is where most of the heroes of the realms come from. It is the world the "gods" (to be explained later in cosmogony) watch closest and struggle to rule. A "physical" representation of the Shadow Plane runs through E'yané and at times Kasmacalau. It is known as the Darghian Rift. It is a pure link to the Plane of Shadow, purest in form. Those that are touched by this rift are sent through time and space to realms and histories long gone or yet written. It stands as an endless black pillar, piercing into the heavens. Within E'yané's Ethereal Plane is an exact duplicate of the Material Plane, seperate from the actual Ethereal itself. This world is warped and is where newly dead are forced. Actions taken by the dead in this duplicate can at times affect the real world. This spirit plane is called Ayareath. Gods can interfere in this realm, take honorable dead to their sides or leave to the unending purgatory the realm presents. In the "heavens" above this realm is a great light that draws the spirits of worth to it. It is here Em'Earnian, The Soul Judge and Weaver, spins souls into a great spiral tapestry. These souls are brought back into the material plane, reincarnated. http://www.thismindofmine.com/Pictures/cosmo1.jpg More to come in time... |
