| OneEye58905-29-07, 09:09 PM | Okay, so I have been slowly chipping away at a campaign setting and world of my creation for the past few months or so. Very slowly. I had a map up earlier, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I have a new one that I have been working on. I also have some basic ideas for this world that I will write down. As this world is under construction, as the name states, this will all change. I will change this post and add things as they come up, as well as discuss new ideas and things below. Maybe having all of this on here will inspire me to work more on it. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q117/oneeye589/WorldMap1.jpg I first drew this map on two sketchbook pages, then both were scanned and connected in paint (note the center strip that's missing). Now I'm trying to fix it up in paint, as that's al I have for images and such. The whole right age needs to be fixed up, and cities, roads, forests, and some rivers need to be added, as well as a key and some other physical features. Oh, and if anyone was wondering, the little strip of what may look to be ocean, is actually a glacier. So on the left page, the glacier is feeding into the inland sea and the rivers are flowing out of it. I know that the majority of the right page is to be civilized, except the far north, some islands that got chopped of the right hand side, annd the small part on the bottom of the page which will be a dense jungle/rainforest. The left page will be almost all uncivilized, except the shoreline of the separating sea to the right, that will be lightly civilized. The lower section will be a desert and as you proceed north, it will be badlands as created from volcanoes and such (as you can see in the hilly region, there are several) that create long molten lava rivers flowing through the badlands and finally emptying into the sea, creating the island and peninsula. The continuous flow of lava into the sea creates a never-ending fog bank in that area. It's definitely not the best place to have a civilization. Now for some gods and the god backstory. The original god, Oman, was the first who was spontaneously created in the midst of nothing. Firstly he created, with most of his power his wife Dosenna, the being of Fertility and Birth. Together they made many other beings. These beings created the world and creatures and everything else as Oman directed. More names and facts soon to come in this list. God: Oman Lesser beings; Fertility and Birth: Dosenna - First to be created, mother of most other lesser beings listed. Death: Magic: Light: Darkness: Weather and Skies: Land: Seas: Fire: Knowledge: Fate: Good: Evil: Law: Chaos: War: Peace: Nature: Endworld: Minor beings (created later); Lawful Good: Lawful Evil: Chaotic Good: Chaotic Evil: Luck: Abominations: Undead: Now, the lesser and minor beings are the ones that people would actually worship. They control the things that they are listed under. I don't really want beings of harvest, as that's under nature, or beings of things that are really irrelevant, such as travel, because why worship travel? People usually worship the god of the thing that they want to go right. If someone was in battle that all odds were against them, they were lawful good, the opponent was chaotic evil, they would pray to the being of war for a victorious battle, the being of luck for good luck, and the being of lawful good to help smite the evil beings. If someone were traveling through harsh lands, it would be weather and skies for good weather and peace for no battles. Now the beings are not gods, they are just appointed powers and domains by Oman. More to come later tonight on the god story and some other things, probably. I would like some of the following things, if you wouldn't mind. Feedback on the map, if there are any problems. Remember it's not finished, though. Feedback on the pantheon. Any ideas or suggestions pertaining to these to things. Thanks ahead of time :) |

One thing to note is that if you're going with physical world design, glaciers generally aren't going to be that massive in magnitude. They might spand a mountain chain, or a significant stretch of land, but unless you're right in the artic circle, one glacier wouldn't cover the entire top of the world. However, it is fantastic, so that's only minor concern. On the right side of the map, I think you may have gone a bit overboard with the rivers. In general, rivers are probably going to be more plentiful on one side of a mountain chain than on the other. In addition, with the sheer volume of mountains you have, the rain is probably going to be driven completely out of them by the time they reach the second or third chain. There are a few sections where I'm skeptical about the placement of mountains. Either the mountains would have to be rather old, or you would need to have this basically be one massive focal point for all the plates to create that kind of folding at that many different angles all at once. In addition, at first glance it actually looks like this is more of a separation boundary where the inland sea is, as it seems that the two central horizontal lines of mountains are actually splitting and perhaps even the middle verticle chains used to be one chain. Anyhow, most of my thoughts for the moment. A little late, but I'll see about commenting on the pantheon later. |
| OneEye58906-03-07, 07:13 PM | The glacier is fantastic in origin, so that slves that. I don't think I wanted all of the river lines to be actual major rivers, just a way to show water flow if there was one there. I dunno, I always put them down kind of heavy when I draw a map. And the mountains are very old and also fantastic in origin as well. Mostly from the war within the pantheon. |
