The tall man looked at the bodies and blood that spilled from them, noting the claw and bite marks smoldered endlessly - a telltale sign that demons had felled them. He looked into the sapphire eyes of the woman at his side and spoke firmly, "Yes, yes it will." -- The Skirmish of Cermod. "The demons are powerful, and free from time... but they are still vulnerable. They are mortal, perhaps more mortal then even we, as when they die, all that they have accomplished vanishes as if scattered away by the winds... their empires dismantled as though they never existed. Lives are reshaped by their demise, and their slain enemies return to life... Perhaps I'll even come back to you one day, but you must find me this time..." - The passing words of D'jorel Phelmon. I'm working with my girlfriend to create a new (and possibly epic) campaign setting/world where there are legions of angels and fallen angels (demons). As far as the pantheon goes, it's monotheistic with a God figure and a Satan figure who isn't a god, but is something with nearly if not equal influence on creation. The two pillars, one of good and the other of evil, are truly timeless and invincible (we haven't decided if they can kill each other yet). Their armies, angels and demons, are immortal and timeless, but not invincible... though you'd be hard-pressed to prove their vulnerability to the people of the world. Though demons and angels live outside of time like their lords, they have an anchoring point (their true person) who they must protect. The anchoring point happens to be the most powerful manifestation of an angel/demon, as their entire presence may be focused there if needed, but when it is destroyed they are forever destroyed. The timeline shifts to cover their graves and every deed they ever accomplished is erased. Victims return to life, fortresses vanish, banners change... even the dust they moved with their feet shifts to the position it would be had they never been there to move it. On top of this, the people forget the slain entity. Only the ones who killed it know of its life and deeds through divine shielding. The tides of time shift and are alien to them, but familiar at the same time because they 'grew up' in this new world. Friends slain in or not present for the final battle are not aware of at least the vanquished demon's existence... possibly none of the demons they killed in past time lines. Again, the last fact has yet to be decided upon. 1. What do you guys think? 2. How should this work mechanically? 3. Would the shift in time lines give players the ability to re-design the last few levels of their characters? If that wouldn't work, is there any cool mechanic I can introduce to reward players for killing a demon? 4. Should angels and demons be forbidden from fighting one-another, to preserve their numbers? 5. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance! |
