| nimblewright9309-08-07, 02:05 PM | :fight!: I'm thinking of doing a tomb raider style storyline you know the one with the triangle of light any ideas? |
| taradusis09-08-07, 11:33 PM | Yes,first detail the Triangle of Light. Then come up with several layers of clues/items.You know, must get item A which leads to item B which is a key that unlocks a vault holding item C and so forth.Draw up an opposing team of tomb raiders.RANDOM THOUGHTS. |
| nimblewright9309-09-07, 01:18 PM | yes and i'm thinking of putting in an etheral dopliganger that would be a tomb rader in search of the triangle this would be logical because etheral dopplegangers covet magic items. |
| taradusis09-09-07, 09:32 PM | Just about every thinking creature likes magic items,Its as if they were prizes at the bottom of a crackerjack box or something?:D |
| nimblewright9309-10-07, 05:21 PM | true be dat, true be dat, but how closely should i follow the movie |
| taradusis09-10-07, 05:36 PM | I wouldn't follow the movie too closely, you have at least one player who is a non-linear thinker.I would design several minor sites they can visit out of order. If they miss a site the competion gets the key or whatever. After all items are gathered have a logical reason reason why everyone is heading for the final showdown.RANDOM THOUGHTS |
| nimblewright9309-11-07, 02:55 PM | should i use a any thing like a runegaurd for the BBEG Random thought |
| taradusis09-12-07, 06:46 PM | If the competition is tough enough you may not need a BBEG?A set of challanges that are mental-based like traps might be good as well.RANDOM THOUGHTS. |
| nimblewright9309-13-07, 04:35 PM | as you and I both know i have a problematic player:rolleyes: he gets antsy when there isn't a big fight every now and then:fight!: so i need a BBEG:dragon: what about a beholder?:behold: :D |
| taradusis09-13-07, 04:53 PM | If you have the lords of madness book you could send in beholder cultists. These are people with beholder peices grafted on,gives the enemy a magic item the PCs can't loot?Have you ever used a Beholder before?A Beholder lair can be 3D with shutes going up and down between levels,if the PCs can't fly this could make life difficult?RANDOM THOUGHTS. |
| nimblewright9309-13-07, 05:21 PM | actually even though beholders are like a standered BG i have never even seen one :w00t: |
| taradusis09-14-07, 01:36 AM | When using a Beholder in combat it's good to "test drive" the monster by putting it thru a mini combat scenario. The main anti magic eye is quite potent,an ambush that disrupts the PCs magical flight is deadly, and most beholder lairs are quite 3 dimensional, losing your flying abilities while going up a 300 ft tube is no fun(for the PCs).A disintergrate ray can be used to destroy items carried by the PCs.A Beholder trick I used to use is a shaft the beholder would fly up,triggering a net that would fall down on pursuers.I also used a bridge, the beholder would fly up from under the bridge to attack and if wounded fly back under it,a simple trick but effective in it's way.RANDOM THOUGHTS |
| nimblewright9309-20-07, 04:13 PM | well i used a gauth saturday it would have been better if the gauth actually hit |
| taradusis09-21-07, 08:12 AM | Well, thats how the dice tumble:) .Might I suggest a horde of smaller opponents who attack in waves.Traditionally this would be kobolds who set off a trap, then snipe at PCs from cover, then gang up on one PC when brought to bay.RANDOM THOUGHT. |
| nimblewright9309-22-07, 01:34 PM | :yuck: I'm tired of kolbolds all the time same with all the staple enemys, goblins, orcs, smurfs etc. it's enough to make even a dwarf puke. but i can't find anything good or exotic enough where my PCs are. do you Know of anything that won't make my PCs go :whatsthis  but just go whoa that is so Frikin awsome cause now there all like :waits: yhipe a kolbold a bladeling and a drow i am so excited yaaaaa Um dude come on:waits: its kind of like eatng plain shreded wheat with out anythig just the big blocks of shreded whest not mini but big[thaat is not even to be joked at] |
| Suzu09-22-07, 02:48 PM | Skulllords and the things that go with them (MM5) might be good for a Tomb Raider type game. |
| nimblewright9309-26-07, 03:07 PM | what timeing my freind just got MM5. i'll look them up. |
| taradusis09-29-07, 03:35 PM | Perhaps a large opponent with a lot of attacks,like a gibbering mouther?RANDOM THOUGHT. |
| nimblewright9309-30-07, 11:11 AM | Or a Catobleas |
| nimblewright9309-30-07, 11:38 AM | to the addoring fans of nimblewright93:bravo: as i was looking at the avatars i saw the skull Knight and said to myself "HOLY*CENSORED* that is amazing" so i promptly changed my avatar. ithink of it as the "new look same great taste" thing except its now "new look same great post" -yours truely nimblewright93 |
| nimblewright9310-01-07, 03:47 PM | possiabley a rune gaurdian |
| taradusis10-02-07, 06:42 PM | Perhaps some team ups.Hill giant who throws boulders teamed up with a kobold who puts pit traps around the hill giant, bit of backstabbing while the PCs are distracted?trolls don't use metal weapons and rust monsters eat the metal weapons and armor of troll opponents.umber hulk confuses and makes it hard to hit bats or bats knock torches down and requires you to fight umber hulk in the dark.RANDOM THOUGHT. |
| nimblewright9310-03-07, 03:29 PM | Actually i could make a kolbold trap master and a red dragon working together. How does that sound? :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
| taradusis10-03-07, 04:42 PM | You're a better judge of your PCs than I am but it seems a little powerful to me.When I use "combined arms"I'm trying to use two monsters to cover one anothers weak spots.A red dragons lack of hands is a weak spot but the dragon may have a lot of minions?Still, mull it over and run a practice session against yourself to see how it works?RANDOM THOUGHT. |
| nimblewright9310-04-07, 03:44 PM | Hmmm i could use some pre-generated characters from the books to make a balanced party and then run a game and see which works best. bard rouge wizard fighter |
| taradusis10-05-07, 01:51 PM | 1) Use rogue, not rouge, people will mock at thee.2)Ask the players to make copies of their sheets for your use, attach 3X5 index cards for each magic item, weapons and armor, this will prevent PC cheating as well,1 of my players seemed to be able to create a +2 Battleax out of thin air. This will allow you to run practice sessions to see if a new monster is too tough or weak.3)How about a Drow+unusual spider combos? The PCS enter a vast cavern,1 mile in diameter and with support columns that stretch 120feet into the air, higher than the light of a torch can reach. Most PCs travel in a bubble of light when underground, the light from their torches or magic weapons extends 30'to 60' around, this actually limits their vision and allows enemies to see them a long way off?Drow often ride giant wolf spiders, this is like a fantasy version of an ATV that can climb walls.A Drow on a fast wolf spider can run up and down a 120 FT support column with ease. Now imagine a drow is lurking at the top of a support column where the pcs can't see him.The Pcs see web-wrapped bundles of bone at the bottom of the support column. When they approach the drow sees their lights clustered at the bottom of the column. The drow throws a switch and a circle of grease covered poles rises from the ground, the grease allows silent operation and is a contact poison,it can't be burned off without making a poisonous smoke. From the cover of darkness the drow begins to drop vials of Spiderstink on the PCs.Spiderstink lingers for days and makes spiders irritable and prone to attack. The Pcs shouldn't have clue that this isn't a mechanical trap.Once the PCs are surrounded by Spiderstink vapor the Drow should send down a bunch of Drop spiders.Drop spiders have legs that are sharp and strong like daggers,a Drop spider gets the equivelent of eight dagger attacks when it lands on you(helmets give AC bonus)and then have a bite and two foreclaw attacks.I reccomend Drop spiders equal to the HD of the PC party,if the Pcs have 20 had then use 20 HD of drop spiders. When the PCs are weakened the Drow comes down and fires his handcrossbow and then retreats,he will return later to loot the PCs when they join the other web-wrapped bundles at the base of the column.Imagine the PCs come to a beach underground. The beach has a few rowboats or canoes, perhaps a big raft if your feeling kindhearted?Once the pcs push off from shore and get a few hundred feet out they begin to get hit by the opposition.Remember that fighting in a canoe requires balance checks or you go into the water and a character in 70LBS of armor, carrying a 12LB weapon, and with 40LB of gear is really just an anchor.THE DROW-a drow with a gill collar,a metal collar that bonds to your throat and allows you to breathe underwater.Should she have a long handled reach weapon to attack the pcs and stay underwater?Should she be able to flip over boats?WATERWALKING SPIDERS-In real life there are small spiders who walk on water,in a world of magic something like a waterwalking tarantula should be quite common.I reccomend hitting the PCs with 5 RDs worth?I.E. figure out how many swings the pcs can take, should be roughly 20 and send that many waterwalking tarantulas against them. When the PCs are occupied have the Drow use her reach weapon to try and knock a heavilly armored foe into the water, the Drow will the withdraw and come back later to loot the corpse. The pcs come to the end of a corridor,on one side of the corridor is a Secret,Concealed door.On the other side is an open doorway with a Spiral staircase going down. The drow waits Behind the door for the PCs to head down the staircase and stealthily moves in behind them, waiting for them to slip.In real life there are spiders who spray a carpet of superslick web fluid on a flat surface. When prey animals walk out onto this surface their feet slip from under them and the Trap Slick spider will either pounce on their prone bodies or run out on heavily barbed legs to engage them.Imagine a Medium size Trap Slick spider has coated the spiral staircase with a superslick carpet of webfluid. The 1st pc to step on it begins to slide down the spiral and crashes into the bottom. The trap slick spider moves in for kill using his barbed forelegs as weapons, the battered PC may be 3 rds away from help and unable to stand. The Drow will attack the PCs from behind once he hears the PC tumble down the Staircase,he will retreat if the Party looks tough, and come back to see what his "pet" has left.Imagine a large spider is lurking on the ceiling and it releases a webline with a clump of sticky glue on the end. This Trolling line slaps into the back of a pc and the spider begins to drag the PC into the air at a rate of 40ft per rd?A drow who has been in hiding begins to snipe at the party from concealment. The spider will drop the pc once he is high enough and then slither down a web line to feed on him.Do the PCs charge the Drow?Do they see the Trolling line for what it is or do they think magic is lifting the victim? Will the Drow reteat once his "pet" drops in and come back later?RANDOM THOUGHTS |
| nimblewright9310-06-07, 12:24 PM | :gah: Spiders! |
| taradusis10-06-07, 10:42 PM | Try watching the movie"eight-legged freaks".It's a good movie and an excellent plot to rip off.I didn't even mention my idea for parachute spiders.:) |
| nimblewright9310-10-07, 03:03 PM | Spiders:weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: |
