Only a great man can write it. -Oscar Wilde What This Campaign Setting is and What it isn't War of Attrition is a fantasy setting that could fit with almost any other game, I've chosen to go with Dungeons and Dragons because that's just what I know best. This is the story of the world of Kargea, reeling from the Old War it finds itself thrust back into another world spanning conflict. Under the omnipotent and omniscient watch of the all-seeing Eye, the only religion in the world, we see that History and time not only is doomed to repeat itself on our own world, but on other planets as well. The History and time line of World War II is applied to this fantasy setting. The players are different but the game is the same, and it all begins with a young Elf Prince named Beren Miriel. Miriel was the second son of the king, so his older brother took the mantle of King when their father died and Beren was sent to serve in the army. During the Old War, he was sent to the trenches of the western front and fought against waves of Human, half-elf, and halfling soldiers. When the armistice was signed, Miriel was disappointed, he found his life unstructured and empty. He tried his hand at architecture or artistry but most found his designs too plain. Returning home as a failure, he was sickened to see the dire straits the elves were in. They were poor, having to give up most of their natural resources and gold to the victors of the Old War. It was then that he incited a coup. His first attempt at claiming the crown failed and he was imprisoned for a two years. It was then that he perfected his speeches and learned dark pacts and names of demon princes. On his release, Miriel spoke to the elven people about rising up, taking control of their destinies, and most importantly, returning the Elven Kingdom back to it's former glory. With most of the nation backing him, Miriel was able to dethrone his brother, exiling the former monarch from the country. Miriel's Elven Kingdom began preparing itself for war. "And so begins the cycle anew," The Eye watched as the event unfurled before him, "Not even my beautiful treasure of Kargea is free of hate mongers like Hitler."
