| Bobfred2104-08-08, 04:01 AM | I don't really understand what you're asking. What does this mission entail? Are they planning a wedding? If so I have to admit this doesn't sound very exciting, and I'd reconsider running this mission unless you're absolutely sure your players are up for it. On the other hand, if you players enjoy planning a fantasy game wedding then by all means. Without some more details though it's hard to give feedback. Also: I find running in real time a little difficult and kind of pointless. This may not be the case with your group, but I know with mine that it's easy to get side tracked with a joke or out of character conversation, this can take 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes even as much as 15, though it usually doesn't get that long, ultimately the point is when running in real time you have to struggle to keep the entire time in character in order to get the appropriate effect. Even more, you have to account for time spent walking, even just walking say 100 feet can take 30 seconds or so if the characters arn't in a hurry, it'd slow down the fun and excitement of any game if you paused whenever the characters werent doing anything of note, ie. walking a hundred meters. The biggest problem with running in real time is combat (if indeed a wedding styled mission has any, and theres no real problems if it doesn't, I'm as big a fan of roleplaying as any), the simple fact of the matter is that you really can't go around any reasonably sized group and have each and every person take their turn in under 6 seconds, heck, getting each individual person to take their turn, at least for my groups would be difficult to accomplish in just 6 seconds. Unless you plan on acting out all of your characters actions, including combat then setting a game in real time doesn't really work in my opinion, because let's face it, at the point where you're acting everything out - it's not really D&D anymore. If you're into that kind of thing, hey all the power to you, but it's still not really D&D. |

Or vice-versa! Seriously, I share the same concerns as Bobfred regarding 1) real-time game, and 2) the object of the mission. Who will be married together? Is it a commoners wedding or an aristocrat wedding? Is it an arranged wedding, or a love wedding? What are the alignments of the characters involved? A CG wedding is likely to be an awesome party, a LE wedding will have a strict list of guest with complicated dances. You can even plan a CE wedding! |
| Master_Vega04-08-08, 11:49 AM | You can even plan a CE wedding! Evil human Cleric: *glares at his orc companion and closes whatever holy/unholy text he was just reading from, shakes head at the bloody mess on the floor* Marriage, Krug, not sacrifice to Gruumsh. Marriage. Krug: Oh... Sorry. I try again? Honestly, though, I just don't see a chaotic creature getting married. Marriage is important to lawful types because it's a very traditional and powerful gesture. Good and neutral couples may desire the wholeness of marriage... but I really don't see a chaotic evil creature even caring, since they don't desire the lawful aspect and typically couldn't care about a wholesome relationship.... >_> As for the wedding session... I don't know what advice I can give that the others haven't already... If your players really want to play it in realtime, then go right ahead and play it that way. I'm certain my group would be fine just hearing long descriptions of the highlights of the event. |
| Zicka04-08-08, 08:38 PM | well the wedding is an aristocratic wedding, and it does get crashed. I was thinking that movement might not be that much of an issue seeing how they are in the church and then just go to the grooms estate for the reception. I have no problem running the senario, I was just seeing if real time was possible, if its not then Ill just play it like a standard mission.:P |
