| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:02 PM | Overall concept. "The world is not being a happy place. Greetings. I am Hrugel Kroisk I am Dwarven Lorekeeper of eight clan." "Yes and you are also mangling the languadge." "Quiet please. I am apologisong for poor Vergish but Dwarves are not having much opertunites for practising it. This is no good elf Elumien Moonstar. He is here to give elven side of histories and views. He is also very rude. Like elf. As I say, world is old but society is new. World is dark and dangerous and all races are not as open or happy like in other worlds. Here the world is not open, druids is not cheerful old mens, wizards is not jolly men with pointy hat. And little girl with red hood is very lucky if she is getting eaten by wolf, compared to other things that she might find." "So let us begin at the beging." "Is customary place." History "There have being been three major divine and two majour mortal ages. First was age of four god. They are god of earth, god of fire, god of water, god of air. They make world. They make ceratures to live in world. Then they make servants. These servats are Titans. This is pretty much all we know." "I can't fault him there, even the orders of heaven and hell where not in existance. All we have are the legends of the titans themsleves. You see, the four creator gods did not stay lords of their creation. They created fourteen powerful titans. They thought they could control them by creating blanced forces. This was a big mistake. The titans wared with each other fallign into two greater houses. They killed their creators when the tried to stop them." "Two houses made the two forced many now understand. Good and evil. Creators had understood only Law and Chaos. It was fatal flaw. House of sun was titans named, Chastiva, Gentrovi, Modemous, Zeelan, Meekemen, Chamtara, Hamta. All are being men. They are being holy and virtuous, but short sighted and foolish." "They where becons of hope and righteousness, the very soul of the wrold." "House of moon was titans named, Lustava, Glutovaz, Avarnassis, Slozalmi, Wrantana, Evisti, Portumian. They are degenrate and unwholesome embracing all manner of depravity and sickness." "They where the forces of revalry and celibration! They where-" "Must explain. These titans still worshiped by elves along with gods." "As they should be. Lustava, the ancient mother-" "Was Cow headed tyrant that slaughtered entire cities in attempts to satisfy her bed chamber needs. Nothing more!" "I thought we weren't going to get into theology." "You started it. In any reason these titans are having war. Sun titans are dieing, tricked by flase talk of peace. Then moon titans are having many children, first the fey sprits. Then lesser titans as are still alive today. Then giants. Then elves. Then the gods are coming to be. They are making other races and using them as power base. They are killing the titans. More there is to say on the matter but it goes into realms of myth. Dwarves say titans where rulers happy to murder own children for fun or gain. Elves say they are "true forces of freedom". This not expalining how thier gods come to be. Dwarves say they where rebel elves. Elves say no. Their gods say nothing." "After this there is the current divine age. Age of Gods." "Mortal history is far less subjective. First their was the age of the pact. During this are the world was speareated into the followers of the blood gods, the followers of the pact gods and the lost race most of whom where left over detritis from the ages before the titans." "And Titan's over active labido." "In any case this was a time when elf and dwarf counted each other as allies, as did the children of all gods recoded here in detail. When the blood gods where pushed back the pact died. Dwarves stoped caring." "Elves stoped being reasonable. "In any case dwarves locked themsleves away and the other races. The elves flourished, naturaly, and civilised many of the blood races." "HA!" "Pardon?" "Ha, is cough, kaha, kaha." "The other pact races did well and the balance of nature was respected. Untill we had to deal with th gnomes. Elves are now the greatest of the races but the other children of the titans are also strong. The fey are a pwoerful force in the world and it is no lie that those who dare to raid nature for lumber and farming land are in great danger of their vandalism incuring the wrath of the fey." "Not vandals, providers that the fey would prefer lived in wild packs and acted as thier pets and hunting quary as in old days." "Slaunder!" "No. I have written statment to that effect signed by many prominet fey." |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:03 PM | I use the Greyhawk (or rather PHB) deities as a starting point, for the sake of familiarity. Aside from racial deities they are considered the “human” Pantheon. This is slightly inaccurate but it will do. Most of the monstrous deities(from orc and goblin to giant) are lumped together in the “Blood Pantheon” and it is true that many of these gods do work together from time to time. They are the gods who where on the wrong side of the war of the eternals, they are shunned by the other gods for maintain barbaric and brutal ways but at the same time their defeat united them in a way victory failed to do for the winners. The aberration gods are the “Dark” or “Lost” pantheon. All of the Arch fiends are considered to have Divine Rank 1 and are members (often pivotal members) of the Blood Pantheon. There are no deityless clerics, however every pantheon except the human one contains dozens of minor functionary gods (such as the chef and minstrel of the elven god court) who most don't even care about. If you want to play a cleric with a different set of domains and ideals you are in fact worshiping one of them, although you may not even be aware that your powers come from a god if they are nervous about being seen to sponsor clerics. Elven gods. Ithithimir, The silver spider, lord of inspiration, First Master of Magics, The ArchMagus, Adviser of the court, Alignment CG, Favored weapon Halberd, Domains Chaos, magic, Spider, Planning, Good. Cotherian Lotherian, the golden stag, God-king, Warsong, as Standard DnD Shisheriok, The Iron scorpion, Mother of War, Champion of the court, Matron of competition, Alignment CG, Favored weapon Ranseur, Domains Chaos, War, Destruction, Competition, Good. Shievun, The emerald gazelle, Beastmistress, Nymph-queen, Great Mother, Alignment CG, Favored weapon Composite longbow, Domains Chaos, Good, Animal, Plant, Trickery. Lolth, Spiderqueen, mistress of webs, betrayer and betrayed, Daughter of Ithithimir, Fangheart, Alignment NE, Favored weapon Shortsword (spider fang), Domains, Spider, Darkness, Magic, Evil, Domination. Shithkik, Scorpionking, Lord of wealth, Twice betrayer, Master of the Eventide, Alignment LE, Favored weapon Glave (scorpion tail) Domains, Greed, Plant, Evil, Law, Death. The second oldest of the Pantheons, the Dark or Lost pantheon is much older, the elven gods are interesting in that they have many peculiar occurrences in the hierarchy First the most powerful deity is without a doubt Ithithimir, who may be the most powerful of the non-over deities, but the pantheon is lead by Cotherian, who is in truth probably less powerful than Shisheriok or Shievun. The reason for this is he is in truth the only one of the four Chaotic Good great deities that would be interested in the job and would be accepted by the others. Ithithmir is perhaps the oldest magic user in existence, it is debatable as to whether any of the Lost Pantheon use magic, and he is also one of the most powerful. Nevertheless he hates having to get directly involved in earthly affairs and is scarcely worshiped outside of Grey Elven cities. Seeing as the Grey elves are the smallest group of elves this means he is dependant of the worship from those who worship the elven gods as a whole. He appears to be an extremely tall and gangly elf with pale grey skin and black, apprently star studded, eyes. He wears pale saffron robes and has thin, wispy hair. He has a, seldom used, alternative form of a Centaur like silver spider, distinct from Lolths in it is a hunting spider, not a web spinning verity. He is known to be slightly distrustful of Shisheriok and blames her son for leading his daughter astray. His holy symbol is an eightfold circle. Cotherian Lotherian rules with a light touch but can be firm when needed. He is pretty much as in various other scources. His alternative form is of a golden stag. He is patron of the elven art of the warsong, basically the Dervish PrC. His holy symbol is a reference to his defeat of Shithkik. Shisheriok, is among other things personal chapion of both Cotherian Lotherian and the entirety of the elven race. She is most revered by Wild Elves. She too has an alternative form, of a massive hulking amour plated scorpion and in factual fact she keeps her pincers at all times. In her elven form she is short but heavily built with long dark hair and glowing yellow eyes. She is notorious for losing her temper and having a great deal of pride. She is also the war leader of the elven court. Her holy symbol is a pair of crossed Ransurs on a sandy background. Shievun is the patron of forest elves and elven rangers. She is also closely connected to fey (and is herself half-fey). She is seen as the spirit of mischief and trickery. Her elven from has no fixed shape. She is known to have only one hate in her life, Oildamara, who once took advantage of her drunk state. Her animal form is a Gazelle with green fur. Her holy symbol is a pair of crossed Gazzele horns. Lolth is somewhat different to her depiction in other places, this is because how she fell is different. Against her father's wishes she courted Shithkik, the elven god of trade and death and son of the iron scorpion. Together they hatched a plan to steal the crown of the elven gods and lead their race to what they felt was the density of the elves, total domination as master race over all other inferior races. She seized the throne but realized that Shithkik had set her up as fall-girl if anything went wrong and lost her temper. She let the plot slip and damned the two to exile. Her opinions of men are now somewhat divided. Weak and submissive men are to her mind vermin and remind her of all of the things she hates in her estranged lover, whereas powerful and defiant men remind her of all of the things she still loves abut him. Of course, she does not like being defied so doesn't mind them dieing. (If Drztizt existed in my world therefore Lolth would probably have a crush on him and could t wait for the day she found him dangling in her web...) A few male drow have managed to strike the right balance of respect and assertion to go a long way in society, there is even the occasional male cleric to Lolth. It is said that the only entity she fears is her father. Drow are descended from Grey elves. Shithkik likewise has mixed feelings towards Lolth. He feels angry that she ruined the plan just as it came to fruition, sorry that he used her as he did and (mostly) depressed that he can no longer be with her. Whilst his society is Patriarchal and fiercely capitalist (the working class are pretty much owned by the upper class) he respects women in their own way. He is ruthless in his treatment of those who oppose him and his worship is more uniform in Scrade society than Lolth's in Drow society. Ever since Cotherian Lotherian cornered him on the moon and struck him down his face has been covered with horrific scars that he hides behind an ivory mask. (Many male drow of beauty have tried to avoid the advances of females via self mutilation, Lolth find this tantalizingly defiant and deliciously like her estranged lover, often asking for them as sacrifices...) His scorpion form is now used infrequently as the wounds in it's shell are still not healed. Scarde are descended from members of all elven sub-races who chose to follow him when Lolth rose to power. His holy symbol is a coin, a glave and a scorpion sting in front of a mask. Dwarven Gods Mordrian, Eldest brother, SoulJudge, Otherwise as standard DnD. Morshkin, Second brother, ShelterWall, Alignment LG, Favoured weapon Spiked shield, Domains, Metal, War, Protection, Cavern, Force. Mortion, Third brother, RiverMan, Alignment LG, Favoured weapon Quaterstaff (Bardgepole), Domains Water, Travel, Repose, Oracle, Knowladge. Morshilk, Young brother, Inocent's Friend, Alignment LG, Favoured weapon Ungrosh, Domains Dream, Darkness, Rune, Liberation, Healing Mershikin, The Father, LordTyrant, Alignment LE, Favoured weapon Warhammer, Domains Tyrany, Law, Evil, Earth, Darkness. Aaulgii, The knocker, the force of decay, Alignment CN, Favoured weapon Heavy pick, Domains Chaos, Madness, Greed, Hatred, Pride. The Dwarven gods consist of the Four Brothers, their deposed father, their servants (lesser gods) and a spirit of entropy. Mershikin once ruled all dwarven kind, but he was a cruel and dicatorial leader, his apperance and cloathes are all totaly black and his temples are never lit. He is the current patron of the Duregar but hated by the rest of darven kind. Mordiran is the head of the counsil of dwarven brothers and has the casting vote on any decision. He is respected as the one who felled their father and as teh spiritual father of all dwarven kind. Morshkin is a difficult deiaty to please but serves as the Dwarven War god. His concerns are mostly towards the deffence of his people and of their ideals. He resides in a great Iron fortress patroled by the finest dwarven warriors from all ages. Unkind parrallells between him and Bel have sometimes been drawn and he does suffer from a certain level of paranoia. He is never seen out of his war armour that totaly encompases his form. Golem armour (Epic level handbook) was first forged for this purpose, but his current arounr is much more powerful. His temples are built into the fortifications of dwarven cities. Death is a sombre busness for dwarves and Mortion is the focus of such events. He took up this role before his father was deposed and his father cannot remove him from it, thus he is worshiped by a few Durregar as well who tend to his sparce deep temples. When they die all dwarves of all kinds (but not derro or exiles) are sent over the saphire fall at the heart of the (now abandoned) first dwarven city. From here their souls travel on Mortion's bardge to the afterlife. This waterfall is so sacred that the entire city (on the surface but above the most established and direct rought to the Under-Realms, so naturaly the exits ARE well guarded.) is a neutral zone between Dwarves and Durrgear and any so much as touching a weapon (excluding Mortion's clergy who live here and during certain ceremonial rites) is a banishment offence. Dwarves who cannot be sent over physicaly have their names carved on ceremonial stone that is cast over as a faux body for their soul. Those who die in mass deaths or for whatever reason cannot be named are sent over on rocks that read, for example, "Those lost with the fall of Krial-Krozt". The young and inocent need a protectior, and red haired and calm Morshilk is that guardian. He comunicates with his worshipers through dreams and signs and is also responcable for written records and historys and so his is often found to have temples that double as libraries and halls of records. Aaulgii is a somthing of an abberation. He is not a dwarven god as such, but rather the symbol of all chaos and decridation that all dwarves fear. His clergy are mostly Derro although a few dark cults to him exist in dwarven cites. He feeds on dwarven superstition and fear of the unknown that hides in the deepest dark. Halfling Gods Yondalla, Great mother, As standard DnD Yorthshielka, Loyal brother, master of towers, Road rider, Alignment LG, Favoured weapon Lance, Domains Law, Good, Protection, Glory, Couradge Gertmishtiel, Grandma, mamma Gert, Curse weaver, Alignment NE, Favoured weapon Dagger, Domains Evil, Magic, Suffering, Summoner, Death. Hathhelgra, Sister of bounty, Alignment NG, Favoured weapon Sickle, Domains, Plant, Healing, Animal, Protection, Good Perthigin, Learned Father, Alignement NG, Favoured weapon Longsword, Domains Planning, Travel, Luck, Trade, Windstorm The titles refer to the spiritual relationship between the gods and halflings. Yondalla fills the roll of caravan leader and makes all major decisions. Her clerics often take up the roll of advisors and leaders. Her husband is the Caravan scout. He is a healthy looking halfling of fit build dressed in either scout's camophlage garb or a country squire garb. His hair dark and his eyes an enchanting blue. He has a jolly sence of humour and spends much of his times with his animals. His clergy are respncable for orginising scouting and patrols for the caravans. He is also a weather god. His holy symbol is an open road. Yorthshielka took his father's ideals even further. He is the patron of halfling Paladins. His clergy operate from temples in large centeral towers that control a large number of smaller towers along roads and other halfling travel routes. They can be utterly indishtinguishable from paladins. He is a grim and self centered sort of person who has none of the humour of his father. At the same time he has all of the honour of his mother. He spends no real time with the family, instead he is constantly at war. His holy symbol is a full face healm for a riding dog. Hathhelgra is the parton of frutfullness and bounty. She is a kind hearted and happy soul with blonde hair and deep brown eyes. She is said to have the ear of all animals and plants. She is also responcable for halfling fertility and as such is often prayed to by pregant mothers who desire saftey at that dangerous time. Halflings do not tend to farm, but those who do view her almost as their sole deity. Her holy symbol is a bear. Gertmishtiel is mad and crooked. Nevertheless she and her clergy have proven time and time again that they are an intergal part of Halflign society. She is a majour scource of arcane magic to halflings. She in fact loves all halflings, but hates all other sentient life as dangerous to halfing saftey. She and her clerics want all other thinking life to end so halflings can roam safely. Her holy symbol is three overlaping triangles. Gnome Gods. Garl Glittergold, Gem master, As standard DnD The Bottler, Lord of brews and potions, Alignment NG, Favoured weapon Dagger, Domains, Purifaction, Slime, Spell, Liberation, Fire The Armourer, Lord of Armour and Shields, Alignment CG, Favoured weapon Warhammer, Domains, Metal, Protection, Craft, Planning, Portal The Weaponsmith, Lord of weaponry, Alignment LG, Favoured weapon Gnome hook hammer, Domains, Metal, Destruction, Artifice, Strength, Competition The Scribe, Master of the word, Alignment NG, Favoured weapon Longsword (the quill), Domains, Knowladge, Rune, Magic, Spell, Nobility The Gnome gods are all, exept Garl who is refereeing, engaged in a game to find out each other's names. As such the names listed here are their official titles. Garl is patron of all Gnomes and of both magical and mundane gems and jewelry, as well as all manner of strange devices and sciances. The bottler is, boradly speaking, master of everything that comes in bottles. Alcohol through to potions. It is said that he can brew ANY spell into a potion that behaves just like a prepared spell. It is said that the brewing fire he uses is the oldest mundane fire in existance, he has never let it go out. He loves games and jokes like all Gnomish gods, and is respected by all, even Olidamara, as the champeon of all drinking games. His holy sumbol is a bottle. The Armourer is both the parton a Armour and protective items and of protectivve behavior, doing things to remain safe. He is also in chanrge of maintining the Pantheon's portals and travel devices. He is said to be the most light hearted of all gnmoish gods and his pranks are notriously humiliating and practical. He is known to be the most careless of the Gods too, his name is known to be Heigi-something. His holy symbol is a round metal disk. The Weaponsmith on the other hand is much more serious. He views weapons as a nessissary deterant and belives that they are thus important. He enjoys games more than jokes and is sponsour of all Gnomish competitions and sports. He is also the closest thing Gnomes have to a war god, which is not that close. His holy symbol is the hammer. The Scribe is known to be a scatterminded, forgetfull and easily cconfused god, hence his insistance on writing absolutely everything down. This has landed him with the keeper of Gnomish history job. He also seems to be winning the name game, claiming to have at least 4 letters of every name and made the first half of the armourer's name public. His holy symbol is a scroll. |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:03 PM | The inner races. "There are four kindgoms that could be known as the inner kingdoms. The oldest of these is Goloiv, the elven kingdom. The throne of civilisation." "Kaha." "Sorry, journey here was dusty." "The kingdom is made up of four constituent states. The first is my own, the shining city state of Shial. Like all elven cites it is built into part of the creat forest. In this case the great houses are made of the trees themselves, sculpted out of the living wood and grown over hundreds of years. The houses of the middle class are made of wood and are, quite rightly, lower in the canopy, below the ruling familes. There are eight ruling familes, each ruled by the wife of the direct line male. Men administer the daily running of the city and draft and present laws to the consil of eight, but it is the consil that enact or reject laws and women who take the roles of dignitaries and ambasidors. Lower familes are engaged in crafts and trades, many in domestic service. The Galshimi or as some call them the forest elves live in a more tribal city known as Shalmekra made entierly out of beutiful semi-perminent tents. Again the ruling system is the same, although only divinely touched mages may hold a possition of authorty. The Griskov or grey elves live in great wooden strucutres dotted over a largish area known as the Greyward. Their society is far less class based as wealth is obtainable by any. Also their leaders are elected by elven citisens, a strange notion to me. The Gurushk, the elves called by some insulting fools as wild elves, live with few possessions, even the ruling familes, in no city at all. They live in the trees themsleves. They continue the age old practice of the titan days of throwing weak or mis-shapen infants from teh trees. At the age of 30 untill the age of 90 they are raised in a Gruolk, a sort of collective of about 300 children that is ruled by the strongest. I achnoladge that the childhood here is brutal and uncofortable but creates the greates of all elven warriors." "You forget lowest "citisens" of the state." "Ah yes, we are fortunate in our civilisation to be lifted from daily labour and toil by the presance of our civilised servants. Living in great camp cites on the forest floor they are responcable for the less enjoyable tasks. We maintian a large orcish, goblin and ogre army for our protection for example. They are well treated, sheltered and fed. The races are mostly blood races but some familes from the pact races come to us willingly as they know they will be offered a good life. Some of them are even allowed into domestic service proffessions. In any case the great forest opens to the clifs and the sea in the west. Out to dea there are a large number of islands, some of which have many resorces. Blood races rule the seas. In the north there is the rolling plain of poor land known as Verga. It is intercepted and criss crossed by irrigation and paths. There is only a very low population dencity so whilst the area is much larger than the elven kingdom the population is in fact only a little larger. The kingdom is ruled by a hereditary family, as is each setelemnt of small town size of larger. There is only one small city, home of the royal family. The nation is suffering from cronic poverty, most of their money goes to servace debts to Gnorkin along with the lion's share of their food. The nation's army is mostly made up of citisens levy, very few warriors indeed expet for the royal guard, a few paulty regiments that make all of their actual soldiers. Many second or third born nobles take up mercinary or adventuring work, mostly to elivate the cronic dept." "Scource of debt was requirment to pay mercinaries to fight off elven slavers." "Lies! We DO NOT hold slaves! All surface city residents are free to leave at any time!" "They chose to leave, you tell them they are illegal aliens now, you kill them!" "That is a lie! DELIBERATE LIES! In any case, to the east of the great forest lies the city of Gnorkin. It is ruled by the gold coin. Every trade has a guild and every guild has supremem authority in that area. The most proffitable members of each guild are apointed to it's consil and the consil elects a leader that sit's on the CITY consil. Whilst many of the citizens are humans almost all of the really rich familes as Gnomish. The city churns out all manner of processed goods and is in direct control of a small number of smaller settlemtns that are run by vicroys. To the south of the great forest-" "Notice elven midset. All nations are described by local to elven kingdom." "If you want me to finish this be quiet please. The southern kingdom is called Cymro. It is a nation with much mineral wealth and steap peaks. They send most of thier mined resorces to Gnorkin a lot like Verga but they ahve more control than Verga, frequently disrupting mineral suplies by refusing to work and singling interesting yet depressing songs. Unlike Verga they are not in debt." "Mostly becasue mountians are harder to raid into." "That is it you short wide drunkard! I am going!" Elves are the most prosperous of the inner races and yes the surface city dwellers are practically slaves. Elves, as a race, claim that they respect their gods and find the current situation idilic. In fact a large portion of the population are terrified by it and they are very paranoid about invaders. Most elves are CN and otehr than grey elves their favoured class is ranger. What is considered elven work and what is considered surface work depends on what the elves want to do. If they want to garden, they garden, if they don't there is a surface detail assinged. Verga and Cymro are the two human nations, both are pretty much controled from Gnokin, Cymro less so. Gnomes are mostly busnessmen and hold most of the wealth of the inner races. Gnomes are mostly LN and have Wizard as a favoured class. They detest elves as their main oponent for power and visa versa. There are no large population centers in Cymro but there is a large druidic and bardic influance that means that magic items can be found quite easily from druidic circles. Cymro is very loosely ruled by those very same druids, but for the most part each small mining vilaldge rules itself. Humans are more chaotic in Cymro and more lawful in Verga. Both Cymro and Verga have a unique language. Dwarves are only visotors, for more details on halflings, who are somtimes present, read the outer races. |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:04 PM | Outer races First allwing me to introduce the second person who I am asking here, in case first is doing what he did. This is head of greater sewadge maintaince guild of Gnorkin. Hergititg Biggle Vershimore-Vershimore Hergul Rhik Bonisht." "Greetings. I know a lot about the area we now discuss. Expet for the south border of Cymro that opens onto Dwarven lands there is a gap between the lands above discussed and the rest of what might be considered "civilisation". The northern third is composed of mostly jungle and is the home of the other elves. Scrade and Drow. These elves live in two types of acomidation, wooden tree cites and other cites cut into the rock of the huge caverns that can be found under the jungle. Other creatues also live here such as the human tribe of Yuan-ti but in truth traveling through here is not advised. Scrade are of patricular note as few peopel know what to expect. They are patriarchal, unusual for elves, and very orderly. To them wealth is paramount and proffit is life. They know how to spend this wealth of course and the ruling familes live in decidedly elven luxury." "I am having experiance with wild band. Wild band is group of elves, Drow and Scrade mostly but also being other elfs. These bands are elves who dislike society. They are wild raiders, dangerous and vicious who kill or capture any they find and live from what they steal. Many groups are happy to be eating their enemies. Some bandsa re being up to four tens large and can be found anywhere." "Yes indeed. We had one in the sewers of the city three years ago. Thrity eight and their pets. Killing our workers and lanching nightime raids on the city. We lost eighty workers over that quater!" "Yes I think we are getting away from point." "Of course. I do apologise. In any case these jungles are full of titan ruins. It is rumoured that some of the lesser snake headed titans live here as the god-royals of the Yuan-ti clan. Most disturbing of all of course are the fey. These are-" "We are getting to those latter." "The rest of this large gap untill the next "civilsation" is an area made up of rolling hills and dence woods. Again fey.-" "Getting to them latter." "Other than them the hills are positively alive and blood pact races. Tribes of savadge orcs and bloody thirsty ogres that seek to gain glory and power for themselves in an area whos mapping would be utterly pointelss. It is intersting to note that even the surface citizens of the elven kingdoms consider these ceratures to be savadges and are veritably proud of thier assossiation with elves, a laughtable state of being when you consider that they are being offered a level of payment and circumstances that are much lower than they would recive in the great Gnomish city from which I hail. Indeed, oh sorry I am rambling here aren't I?" "Uhhhh, little." "Sorry! In any case it is interesting to note that when they are not in my homeland, Verga and Cymro this is where my people's distant realtives hail from. The great halfing caravans. Halflings are interesting rural fellows who travel teh world in the most beutifully decorated caravans and earn an honest wage telling tales, selling magic and animals. As well as a slightly less honest living theiving and tricking folks with crooked games of chance. They are gamblers and tricksters supreme. However like humans they have produced souls that have become some of the brightest starts in the sky." "And some so dark they are making worst deamons in hell." "Well that is certainly true. In deed the disparities of racial personality are suprising and worring. Interesting to know that halfing caravans travel the world over, even, come closer you don't say certain things out loud, even the green woods. It is said that they fey-" "LATER! We do them last due to nature of green forest. Please be waiting!" "Well in any case the halfing caravans get by by entertaining and where nessissary cursing into oblivion. They roll all over and keep almost as much history and knowladge of the darker aspects of reality as dwarves do." If it exists in DnD, it exists in my game. If it is not a race mentioned elsewhere and is vaugley natural terrestial it exists here. Halflings are neutral on adverge, in the same way humans are. It is interesting to note however that they are VERY close minded in terms of outsiders. The family comes first and everyone else last. It is not that unusualy however to see other humanoids hanging around with halfing caravans, human children found abandoned in the street when they visited a city, rouge elves who refused their society. Halfings who go off on their own usually have a pretty good reason or have been left behind somehow. They are lead by thier most powerful divine spellcaster and their partner. Most halfling clerics are female but they also have a lot of druids, typicaly seen as more of a male domain. Scrade are found here: Scrade characters. | Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:05 PM | The Great Mountains and The Green Forest. "Ah now we are reaching my homelands! The great and majaestic mountians. The chain, that has no name as names are far too trivial for teh very crown of the land itself. The chain of mountians is going all the way from south Cymro round and north untill it reaches the Scradi jungle. On the other side of the mountains is the green forest, which phases into jungle. In any case all dence wooded areas are spiritual extentions of the green forest. The mountains have three main societies on and one under. On the surface the Hobgoblins have their vast networks of fortress setlements, a single clan can be having over six hundreds of forts including some larger than any human or gnome city. Population of cites are less then one third hobgoblin, rest is made up in equal part of other goblin creatures who live as second level citisens of clan, having respect but not allowed to have command. The rest are slave stock, but brave, clever or powerful slave can gain much power as all citizens are judged by worth to clan. In time of plenty all of clan are much happy and have much food. In time of poverty clan eats weakest members. Also on surface is other city. Often built into cave complex dragons are ruling large cites. These cites made up of escapies from other cites and their decendants. Metalic dragons are being giving much more open and free cities but often having strict rules about security. Other dragons are running cities that be little more than farms for food. These cites being higher in mountains than Hobgoblins and only rarely are they infrining on each other. The ones that are are giant castels. Most of these also are keeping slaves and many are raiding lands down from mountains every year for more slave stock. These giants are all almost allways at war with each other, the dragon and hobgoblin. Some giant clans are being lead by titan. Other titans are being wandering the mountains. Titans are being children for many millenia and no titan enjoys time with titan so as babes they are cast out. Many titans are also wanting company and so child titans are frequently captured as valuble slave stock for powerful titan rulers." "Aren't you glad to live in civilisation!" "Greatest civilisation yet to come! For there is another great nation in these mountains, home of honour and duty, great holds of dwarven kind are cut into mountians themsleves! There are being nine dwarven clans, the first are ruling clan and nine are being the special clan that is clergy of Mortion and you are becoming members on becoming clergy. Every clans are being in every city and are all proud. First clan are blessed by gods with long lifes. Dwarven warriors trained from very young ages and all Dwarves are learing of histories in full. This is including the deep cites. Deep cites are including Duregar, who still follows the father, and Derro, who are have been made insane when they attempted to be making minings under the Green Forest." "Ahem." "Green Forest." "Hergititg. Green Forest." "Oh. I see. Well as mentioned eariler this is the realm of the fey creatures. This covers both true spiritual fey as well as sentient plants, lycanthropes and other spiritual creatures. Such are very dangerous and are almost utterly unpredictable. There are three main fey familes and all creatures of the fey courts from dryad to centaurs are allied to at least on of them. The Tylwydd are obsessed by games and gambling, often offering those who wanter into their realms a chance to play for their freedom. The Fayri are primarly interested in beuaty, be it the raw splendor of an angel or the horrid brutality of a deamon you will find a Fayri who will desire it. They also find beauty in lving acts, be it a thunderstorm or a wolf attacking a rabbit. Finaly the Sylvan are most intersted in physical experiacne, from pain to pleaseure, all forms in all places. It is rumoured that there are lands beyond the Green Forest, but none have ever traveled there, the Greed Forest warps space and creatures quickly become easily lost." Giants Dragons Hobgoblins and Dwarves maintian their alignments but all of them are very isolationist and paranoid. They dislike contact with other races and whilst halfing caravans are tollerated (although many of the caravans don't come this far due to the much higher chance of slavers) no other intruders are. The Green forest is literally teaming with hidden life. Almost every plant has a fey creature that is connected with it in some say. The three Fey courts are only loosley assossiated with each other however and it is not unsual to find fey of the same house working at cross purposes. Intruders into the green forest usually attract a lot of attention and frequently become the centre of wagers, games and challanges. The fey never reveal themselves to themselves to intruders but are happy to be heard. They usually do not get involved directly with intruders but prefer to let their pets deal with them. |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:05 PM | Monsters within. Society is full of monster and other dangerous events. In most of the nations, dwarves are the motable exeption, correct burrial (in sacred ground with ceremoines, or possibly creamated on sacred fires) is often the perview of the honoured or the wealthy. Incorrect burrial often gives rise to undead creatures which are drawn down into the areas under the city. Plauges of undead are considered to be mostly normal and whilst there are some who draw the correct corrolation the dogma used by most faiths is that rising as undead is the sign of unatoned sin. Seeing as clerics and other preists are allmost allways burried correctly in sacred earth the facts seem to fit the theory. Also endemic in most population centers are cults to dark gods and underground guilds of criminals. These attract a veriaty of evil creatures who then work to destroy the population centres from within. Scrade, Drow and Yuan-ti are also looking to use such as power bases to use against their enemies. Whilst it is true that the attacks made by teh elves are partaily motivated by the desire to "enlighted" other races there is also a significant portion of the elven peoples who know about the activity in other nations of their enemies and want to launch attacks against these criminals. Of course if such information was known to all elves they would demand a full scale war, somthing the elven rules KNOW they could not win. This allows a lot of scope for political games in the four inner nations and the conspirices more than liekly run deep. Also revealing the truth about a lot of things will do a lot of long term damadge. This can put the PCs in a difficult possition, the same possition as their predecessors may have been in when they decided to continue the very conspiricies they ncovered. It has happened before and it will happen again. |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 01:07 PM | Monsters without Monsters that come from outside civilisation are mostly unchanged from their attitudes in basic DnD, but their concentration is much much higher. Most of the more powerful creatures feed on the weaker ones and most humaoid species become part of the food chain. Of note however is the milliratistic and argessive nature of hobgoblins, the only race currently in stance where global domination of any kind is even a vauge possiblity, due to their high population and unified command. Also of note are titans who can be found ruling many of the lower races in various places. Titans are only rarely CG and they share with fey a distinct distain for most other races, viewing them as unimportant or as animals. |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 02:13 PM | Monsters beyond The cosmoligy of the world is very simple. There are five planes. Material (with etherial and shadow), Heaven (good aligned with every good dieaty's domain in it), Hell (Evil aligned with every evil dieatie's domain in it), the void (neutral with every neutral deiatie's domain in it) and elemental (with smallish areas made up of the six elements (positve and negative energy are considered the last two) the rest is the home of the Fey familes). Any creature with sufficeint status is likely to draw teh attention of outsiders. Whilst there is no far realm in this setting some abberations still come from outside reality and still desire to destroy this reality. All outsiders, even good ones, see mortals as playing chips in their personal vendattas. This makes dealing with even yur own gods rather risky. They rationaise it of course, elven gods will say they would only sacrifice followers to ensure the continuation of their race. Fey nobles are, however, the most worring. They get bored easily and have a tendancy to see themselves as above the other races, even other non-mortals. They get very involved in mortal affairs puerly for their own amusment, watching a mortals life and making extreame wagers on their outcomes and then foricing them to come true, turing villadge idiots into royalty and genius phylosophers into warlords. Luckily many of the fey courts are watching rather than playing at any given time as the mortals involved seldom fit their eventual roles and disater follows. Ocasionaly, a a correctly themed (one noble may "collect legendary tigers and were-tigers as pets) mortal catches their eye and they will offer then immortality in return for their serivude. Such pets eventualy go insane and remain so, in a state of perpetual chaming with all fey, for all time. |
| Evil DM Mk304-25-07, 02:43 PM | There are only a few planes in the cosmology. Heaven and hell are but single plane each, divided into smaller areas like nations. There is also a neutral plane, etherial and shaodw planes. That is it. Classes avavilable: All PHB, Dread Necromancer, Archivist and Binder. All persons who end up being powerful attract the attentions of fey and outsiders. Clerics and Druids are of particular note, Druids are often under the scruitiny of fey and are often paranoid. Clerics face the difficulty that the realty of existance menas that many souls admit that the gods are right about what they should be, and then go off and act in a self centred manner. The Chosen: At the DM's discression any and all of the PCs may be Chosen. Chosen are not selected by any god or creature, but by a force of nature who's will can only vaugley be determined by portents and signs. They take LA+2. (in the case of racial LA however, half it. If it is an odd number round down and their first level is a regular level) They use the Gessault rules. Chosen are less than one in every thousnad and are of particualr note, they frequently become the taget of much admiration and envy. NPCs who are Chosen ALLWAYS have the elite array and have +2 CR. |
| Return of the Flumph04-25-07, 10:55 PM | First off, I love your way of telling the story. The two narrators are hillarious. I already read and reviewed your pantheons, so I'll cut straight to the geo/political information. A few issues so far: I somehow have trouble imagining a chaotic good pantheon granting spells to the priests of a slaver society. Lawful good? Maybe. Chaotic good? No freaking way. Is this just one continent you are describing, or the entire world? If the former, when will we get to hear about the rest of it? If the later, this is a pretty dang small campaign setting. Is the theological history based partly on Lords of Creation? The bit about the new gods using worshippers to expand their powerbase reminded me of it. Anyway, while this world has more than its fair share of problems and inequalities, it isn't looking like the unending nightmare the dwarf described. I'll take it the worst is yet to come? |
| Evil DM Mk304-26-07, 03:37 AM | I have started in teh middle, the otehr posts are there to be fileld and it gets worse. In any case the elves don't see it as slavery and a healthy does of superioirty complex helps thema nd their gods delude themsleves of that. Expect more detail when I get to classes |
| Return of the Flumph04-26-07, 03:05 PM | Got it. I still hope the world is bigger than this one continent, though. |
| Evil DM Mk304-26-07, 03:11 PM | It isn't becasue I am trying to create a feeling of closeness, a bit like middle earth in that respect. There are however three waht you might call "meta-continents". Zones you can travel between by land but that feel very differant. |
| Return of the Flumph04-27-07, 02:11 AM | Those are some of the scariest-and simultaneously most plausible-hobgoblins I've heard of to date. |
| Evil DM Mk304-27-07, 02:13 PM | Those are some of the scariest-and simultaneously most plausible-hobgoblins I've heard of to date. |
| Evil DM Mk304-30-07, 09:07 AM | :gel: |
| Return of the Flumph04-30-07, 11:15 AM | So even good is bad. Not sure I like that. Why not just say "all the gods in this universe are either neutral or evil" and leave good out of it if it doesn't fit? Fey are portrayed fairly accurately in light of their mythological origins. The emphasis on demonic cults seems a little extreme; some explanation on what exactly their deal is would be welcomed. I like the concept of druids being simultaneously terrified of the forces they draw their power from; its a cool change, but it also makes you wonder why the hell anyone would want to become a druid. Sure, its an overpowered class, but it still doesn't sound worth the danger. Finally, I'm always glad when I meet another DM who sees hobgoblins as having the will, way, and manpower to take over the world. Hobgoblins are the humanoid master race. DMs who see them as anything less should keep playing WOW and leave us alone. |
