I'm looking into running a very, very low magic setting. I've established three cosmic principles.

1. Magic Items are Expensive. Magic items cost twice as much as normal. This means they also take twice as long to make.
2. Magic Items are Rare. You are about half as likely to find any given magic item.
3. Divine Magic is Rarest of All. Any magic item dependent on the casting of divine spells to create, like a potion of cure light wounds, is actually four times as rare and costs four times as much (so the above potion costs 200 gp, rather than 50).

Further, I'm using Non-magical or altered Bards, Druids, Paladins, Rangers, and Rogues (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=923575). I also eliminated the Cleric in favor of the Acolyte (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=923590), and the Wizard in favor of the Mage (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=923585)

(Though, note that gunpowder weapons are available, as is any tech that would have been around in 1575 Europe)

How would this effect my game? Obviously, since magic is much rarer, monsters that have damage reduction against magic becomes much more powerful all of a sudden.

But how much more difficult? I'm not very good at seeing long-term effects, or even short-term ones. And how should it effect my campaign flavor-wise?

Considering the rarity of magic it may be the case that magical beasts and other such monsters are also correspondingly rare. Indeed such creatures might well be nearly mythic with almost no one having ever seen one. Depictions of these creatures vary widely and are often quite fanciful and embellished.
