I am a 3.5-edition DM with two players---a human sorcerer and a dwarf fighter. We are all fairly new to DnD (I've read the rulebooks and they haven't, although I just tell them what they need to know) and they are having lots of fun. Last session, the fighter's player remarked on how cool it would be to have a map of all the places in the world. Trouble is, all I've run for them is A Dark and Stormy Knight (a bit of a throwaway adventure to get them used to the mechanics) and after that, the Basic Set's six adventures to kill a Blue Dragon. In addition, they are mostly roll-players---more interested in goblin-smacking than talking. I am wary of using an unofficial setting (although Khoras is freaking awesome) until I have more experience. I was leaning toward Eberron because the fast pace sounds neat and more fun for roll-players, as do warforged (the fighter would love to play one, I think) and would be more interesting for the players and myself overall. In addition---how could I fit the Barrow of Forgotten King/Sinister Spire/Fortess of Yuan-Ti set of adventures into Eberron? Any ideas? Thank you very, very much.

The session is in two days and I have no time to plan! I am thinking of just throwing in a one-shot adventure.

The core generic campain setting, AKA your own, I prefer this over published campain settings.

If you think Eberron would be fun, than do it. There's a good deal of books with a lot of information about the world, but it's also kept relatively open, so that you can always find an empty corner of the world, were your own places can fit in.

Thank you. I will probably end up purchasing Eberron because I like so many of its features. I'm sure I can find somewhere to fit my adventures in.

One of the many great things about Eberron is that parts of the world are left intentionally mysterious; you could stick an entire world of homebrewed stuff in Xen'drik and not put a dent in the population density.

Seconded. It's easy to make a quick pencil-sketch to show your players the basic world. Just make sure you give yourself tons of landmass (no less than a few million square miles) to work with if you're going to be planning the whole world and not just a single nation.

If you don't tie yourself down to a specific campaign setting and all of its various restrictions, I think you will fare better in the long run.
