| Pegasos98903-15-07, 09:51 AM | I am not sure if this is the right board for this (As this isn't a campaign setting or anything but rather a campaign idea) but thought it might be the tclosest one... I have a new player who I am introducing to DnD with a solo campaign. He has two characters, one of which is a paladin (the other is a swordsage for anyone interested). I was thinking of putting someone CG as a nemesis. Someone who thinks that true good can only come from the people themselves and not when people are told what to do or how. So he tries to undermine or even destroy the LG (sure, LN and LE too but that doesn't matter now) churches (to which the paladin belongs too). However, he knows he is dealing with good or atleast potentially good people so he doesn't want to kill anyone, even the priests, just undermine the church as a organisation and something telling people what to do. So, I am interested in ideas of ideas on -how he should go on trying to destroy the organizations around churches of Heironeus, etc. --Without killing anyone --But still looking as if player is against someone evil (untill he finds out what it is all about) -Ways to solve the situation aside from just hunting the guy down and forcing him to stop Thanks in advance |

| Pegasos98903-15-07, 02:00 PM | Ah, yes. Destroying all their texts and such seems like a idea worth using. Anyone else, other suggestion? |
| Thought03-15-07, 02:56 PM | Someone good, who undermines the abilities of a good organization, because he sees it as corrupt? I have one name for you: Martin Luther. He writes various tracks against the lawfulness of the followers of whatever god, which in turn upsets the church. A few peasants here take it too far and revolt (calling themselves Luther's Army or some such, so the PC thinks the "Big Bad Good Guy" is behind it. A prince there seperates from the church. A principality there throws off the allegence to the empire underwhich it had been ruled. |
| FrostHammer03-15-07, 03:19 PM | So he's going to bring about the Protestant Reformation or something? |
| Pegasos98903-16-07, 07:16 AM | I did indeed concider the idea of having cultists far more extreme than the leader but I hadn't thought of the leader using that limited amount of stuff... Yeah, I think I will go with having all sorts of chaotic opponents, ranging from sometimes even violent (CE) cultists to more subtle (CN) opponents who burn churches etc. but leave everyone unharmed to the BBGG who just walks around nailing stuff to church doors. :D Thanks for the ideas. Protestant Cuthbertians? O.O |
| Elthbert03-20-07, 09:38 AM | Well I can't see why a paladn would be all that concerned about killing CG people where obviously at contrapurposes with his Church. They might mean well butthey are still going to spread chaos and where there is chaos there is the opprotunity for evil to thrive. Someboby above brought up Martian Luther but a paladin wouldn't be like Martian Luther, a paladin would be like a sincerly pous inquisitor attempting to root out the Chaos of this rival church. A paladin is Lawful Good not Lawful and Good he see's order and goodness as inexorably linked and is unlikely to see A CG church as being Good. He would recgnize that the members of this Church were good people who meant well, but they are mislead and pawns of Chaos which will eventually bring evil tothe land even if they do not mean to. |
