With my current campaign soon to reach an end (aside: a *very* long term project, a few years now; great fun but after 30+ adventures personally written from scratch, I'm looking forward to something new :)), I am working on ideas for my next d&d "novel" :)

I've been considering the idea of a "water world", one that has been largely covered in water (for some "unknown" reason). The world would consist largely of independent island states that have survived under their own resources. I have lots of ideas of how PC's could explore and perhaps even unite the islands, but I'm not sure what their final goal should be? who caused the world to become flooded, should the PC's pursue this person, god, etc?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I once saw a thread where magic was fuled by the life giving properties of water. Parhaps a magical organization was behind this change believing they could become more powerful by flooding the world. Some of these islands could be controlle dby these mages.

Could have happened in the past few decades or the past few centuries, either way the PCs are giving a nugget of information and everything goes from there.

Could even cause a problem to the mage who could see himself become weak as the spells that created the water are damaged or whatnot.
