| JimProfit01-27-08, 03:53 AM | It's not exactly like Yugioh, but it's an idea ive had floating around in my head. http://img315.imageshack.us/img315/4046/episode14zt8.jpg In this alternate world, magic is common, so common infact, it's used primarily for sport in a legaly formated way called "dueling". People build decks composed of cards that either peform spells or summon monsters to fight on thier behalf. A character cannot die from monsters summoned through cards, they might fall unconsciouse from the shock or take some sortof superfical damage. (Fatigue, prone, etc) But ultimately a monster can't "kill" you. Atleast not ussualy. The only way to die it outside of game when a normal attack like a knife cut or a gun shot wound deals more damage then your massive damage threshold (Max hit die at first level+Constitution score) then you make a fort save equal to damage dealt or die. Ingame, you have 200hp, this represents your lifepoints, and when a monster attacks you directly, it's full attack round is consider it's attack against your lifepoints. So you summon monsters to protect you, you also use spell/trap cards that act as spells in playershandbook, traps in DM manual, etc. Mental stats play a huge factor for a duelist. The Card's Deck Size: The card's deck size limit is equal to your wisdom modifier x20. (No less then 20) Some monsters actually have supernatural abilities that effect hand size, deck size, etc. When you runout of cards, you lose the duel. Summon Limit: You can only have a number of monsters on the field equal to your charisma modifier x2. (No less then 2) Charisma also determines your ability to control monsters, you can only control monsters with a challenge rating equal to your charisma score x2. (No less then 2) Spells: Spell cards are essentialy int dependant. Caster level, DC, and things like that intelligence based. They also can only use spell cards with a spell-level equal to thier int score +10. (So to use level 8 spell cards they'll need an 18 intelligence.) Traps: Traps are also int based. You can only use trap cards who's challenge rating is equal to your int score. So why bother with physichal scores? Well, not all of life's problems can be solved with dueling, granting dueling is a popular sport, and solves alot of civil disputes where at one time they were solved with brutalizing eachother. Sometimes you got to actually fight. Especialy with "shadowgames". Shadowgames are considerd a myth, but they do exsist, and they're terrible games that put your life on the line. They don't always involve duel monsters game, but when it does, every assault on you directly when it does 50 damage or more requires you to make a fort save 15 or die. Millenium items also exsist, millenium items are powerful ancient artifacts that are not sealed to cards and have an array of unique magical abilities. Millenium item posessors need not make a spellcraft check to activate a shadowgame, but those without one must make a spellcraft DC check of 15. All millenium items can take the soul of a player who loses the duel. There are limitations. 1: If it's a multiplayer duel, the item can only take one soul. 2: If two souls reside in the same body, they can only take one soul from the body. 3: The millenium's item maxium soul carrying capacity is equal to the millenium item's owner's wisdom score. You can bet millenium item posessors will want to duel you in a shadowgame, because when they duel, they expect to kill thier opponent for capital gains. Though killing a foe is not nesscary to take thier soul. A millenium item can take a soul outside of losing a duel, but doing so requires a spellcraft DC of 20. If the posessor fails, he or she cannot attempt so again with that individiual soul. Millenium items are wisdom oriented for thier effects. As far as the classes, all characters are the npc class expert or warrior. Thier hit die does not gain HP, instead it improves thier massive damage threshold by maximum hit die. (This does not stack with levels) Despite being humans, they cannot multiclass. You buy cards to use in duels, these cards have gold costs which i havn't quite decided how much yet. Technichaly the monsters/spell&traps are harmless to people, you can use for example a fireball spell to scorch someone. The fireball only works in a duel. Even in a shadowgame the fireball doesn't burn you, it simply feels like you're burning and you can die from it. Evidently I don't know how to get the campaign started, maybe a couple of kids who want to become expert duelists someday, and get mixed in with millenium items and ****. |
