Ok, so I'm going to do a compaign in present time about a zombie outbreak and everyone is going to play themselves and it's going to be in the town we live in.

I have some ideas for it that I want tips and suggestions on.

Ok, so the classes I'm doing a bit differently. They will all start out as commoners at level 1. And instead of things like cleric, or wizard, or barbarian. There will instead be Doctor and Illusionist. And instead of effectively leveling up immediantly and getting a level in a class when they level up, what will happen is that when they do level up they will get a "Training Point" and they all begin with 1 training point at level 1. The way they use this point is to find someone of this profession and have them teach you something. For Example: Say one of them has a training point and he goes to the hospital. He could go to a doctor and have him teach him a level of doctor effectively giving him some minor first aid abilities. Or he could have that doctor teach him some minor surgical abilities.

This is the kind of thing i was thinking of with all classes.

Now, using a basic template for base attack for the class they train in (say they train with a doctor, then they use the cleric template for base attack). The base attack is essentially the weapon skill points. Weapon skill points are used like normal skill points. THERE IS NO BASE ATTACK. This may be difficult to explain. but I'll start off saying that when your normal class would get a base attack point, you get a weapon skill point. So if the class template got 1 base attack at level 1, then whenever the PC trained a class that let them use that template they would get 1 Weapon Skill point. Now, using this weapon skill point the player can better their effectiveness of certain weapon type.

The weapon types will be something like this.
Small/medium/large Swinging weapon (EX: Crowbar)
S/M/L stabbing (EX: Knife)
S/M/L throwing (EX: Whatever they can pick up and throw with their strength)
Bows (EX: Do i really need an example for these next 3?)
Crossbows
Pistols/Rifles/Machine guns

With this list they can point that point into one of these. Examples: they could put the point into Small Swinging or Large stabbing or rifles.
When they do they effectively gain a +1 to their attack roll when using a weapon of this variety. Now, I believe the way to limit them from being able to use everything effectly as a stabbing is simple. you don't stab at people with planks of wood, it just doesn't work. A plank of wood would be counted as a swinging or thrown depending, not a jousting, and use a system like this.

Skill points will be used like in the normal d20 system but they're will probably be some skills taken out and possibly some added in, I don't knnow I'd have to look at it. They gain skill points like they gain Weapon Skill points. This is, of course, based on their classes main template (Such as cleric or fighter or wizard depending on what they are) And as such gain the level one skill points of the class with that classes class skills and then on.

The special abilities I'm not sure how to do. I believe I will have to make new ones to accompany these new classes. If anyone wants to help, I would love you forever. Prestige classes are also available for suggestion.
Each of these classes I will give different special abilities.

My current class list is: (If you have any classes you want to suggest, please feel free to tell me.)
Boxer - fighter template
Kick Boxer - Fighter template
Wrestler - Fighter or maybe barbarian template, I'd like some help deciding.
Doctor - paladin template
Surgeon - cleric template
Marksman - ranger template
Hunter - ranger template
Illusionist - Wizard Template
Martial Artist - Monk Template
Thief - Rogue Template
Musician - Bard Template
Biologist - Druid Template

Feats I believe I will do like skill points. Maybe add a few, maybe take a few away.

What I really need suggestions on the most are the Spells for the magic class: Illusionist. And for how I should do Attribute points like strength and dexterity. HP is also a concern that I have yet to find a solution for. Along with Special abilities for the classes. Feel free to help with any of the afore mentioned concerns.

I can't think of anything else to post. So if you could help with what I've asked help with, Please do.

You might want to permit police officer, soldier, government agent, pilot.

Out of curiousity are these fast zombies or shamblers? Classic hit in the head or "Return" style unkillable save but utter destruction? Brains or flesh? What kinds of locations will you use--including regional?

How are you going to handle religion (if at all)? Are you planning on having a pantheon of deities, or just leaving out the matter entirely?

If it's set in modern times, I'd look into the d20 modern rules.

For the illusionist class, I'd recommend all illusion spells (obviously) and also taking a look at the bard's spell list.

How do you plan on handling the relationship between magic and technology?

I believe, as this is set now, with people he knows, in his home town, that religion would be pretty much the same as it is in real life; that is, one person may be a Buddhist and another may be atheistic, but neither is going to get a divine message out of nowhere telling him to go on a quest.

We use the Call of Cthulhu d20 rules for our pure zombie-games, because it causes the human players to be more realistic. Its more of a watered down d20 Modern system with only two classes (Offensive and Defensive based).

This may be better suited for CoCd20 or d20 modern, especially if you're putting it in the modern day.

The "play-your-self" Zombie game that I'm running uses a CoC system with firearms all lumped together so as to not waste feats.

How might I go about finding the ruleset for this CoC d20? Is there an SRD or anything?

If it's possible to find the book, I'd do it. Otherwise, no SRD. d20 Modern may be your best bet.

There is an SRD for d20 modern (as opposed to the DnD one) at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/msrd.

since you said you were gonna use your own town as the starting place. try this by going to the local libary
get some layouts of the most important buildings in town.
that way they coudl head to the police tation to try to find help.ala resident evil and find none. then to maybe a couple gun stores and see if they been raided yet. then finally a walmart or a mall to hold up for a while.

if you have seen the orignal dawn of the dead will you have a "Fly Boy" in the group.

Either go with a generic D20 or GURPS.

GURPS is, in fact, the best system if you want to roleplay YOURSELF. You cant customize your character as much as you can in GURPS.

As for the layout of the town. I have a photographic memory, so I know the town by heart, and I have the gunstore stuff down. Now, forfeit, whats this GURP thingy. I would like to know.
