02-07-07, 07:41 PM I'm trying to find a rule that I saw a while ago and its bugging the crap outta me!

The rule dictated that a wizard starts out with a number of 0 level cantrips in his spell book equal to the number of cantrips that are in the PH.

This was meant to balance out the fact that there have been more source books with cantrips in them.

Can you guys help me out?

Or am I just wrong about the cantrips?

02-07-07, 07:52 PM Can't say I've noticed that rule. In any case, I'd hardly call it overpowered to give a Wizards all 0th-level spells, regardless of source, at 1st level.

02-07-07, 07:56 PM It's not that I find it over powered so much as I'm trying to prove a point to one of my friends that the rule does exist.

I just can't remember where I saw it. It wasn't in the PHB, I know that much, because there wouldn't have been much point in putting it in there. Because if you only have the PHB then you only have access to the 0 lvl spells in there anyways.

02-07-07, 08:27 PM Notice that the OP isn't looking for the normal rule. He's looking for a rule stating a starting Wizard with access to non-PHB spells won't automatically get all additional 0-level spells added to his spellbook :)

Well, crap. Can't help you there. I looked through Tome and Blood & Magic of Faerun (which were among the first books to publish non-core cantrips), but no luck.

02-07-07, 08:49 PM There was an article in one of the Dragon magazines a while back that listed a bunch of new cantrips and stated that if adding the new cantrips wizards should be limited to the original starting # of cantrips, and choose from the entire expanded list. I have used that idea ever since. As you stated there are a lot more cantrips now from other books besides the PHB.

That was it! Dragon Magazine #302, page 50. Top left of the page. It gives sixteen cantrips to Wizards, twelve for Clerics, and thirteen for Druids.
