I have a quick question concerning wizards. Each time a wizard gains a level, he learns two new spells to put in his spell book right? Will the wizard character gain his two new spells to add into his spell book if he takes a prestige class? I have a wizard who is 11 level. The character has taken 10 levels of wizard and now he is going to take 1 level of Argent savant. I noticed for the first level of Argent savant, the spell caster does not gain “+1 caster level” I know that this means that his spells per day don’t increase. How about the spells he gains upon level advancement as a wizard? Does he continue to get those new spells to add if the prestige class does not have a +1 caster level” at that level?
Thanks.

No, he is stuck at spells per day and spells known from the point he left off at. He can still scribe new spells into his spellbook from things like scrolls.

No "+1 level of existing spellcasting class" means no free spells and no caster level increase. If a PrC does give you that then you DO get your two free spells.

Thank you both Droma and StevenO for clearing up that little point for me.

You do gain the two spells with the +1 caster level since the text for the PrCs has the following statement "Gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which he belonged before adding the prestige class." They don't gain the wizard's bonus feat and other class features.

Your familiar has certain qualities that will always advance regardless of what class you take, and others that only advance with wiz/sorc levels.

Yes as long as the PrC says "+1 level of existing spellcasting class."
