+1 level of existing class... [Archive] - Wizards Community

Can anyone point me to a thread discussing the mechanics of using "+1 to existing spell casting class"?

I have a Prc with a spell list, (Suel Archanomech(sp?)), and I am advancing it using Abjurant Champion. What happens when I go back to the original Prc, and advance it again?

1 level Suel Achanomech
5 level Abjurant champion

then there are 9 levels of Suel archanomech left, but only 4 levels of the spell table... what happens at the end, is the spell table extended, or can it not be advanced any further?

Thanks for a thread reference, or any comments.

If you go back to your previous class that you've advanced, you advance any class features & continue your spells per day & what not progression from where your prestige class left it at.

For example, if you had 5 lvs of Wizard & 3 lvs of spell advancement from some prestige class, you'd effectively have the spells of an 8th lv Wizard. If you got back to Wizard, you use the spell progression of an 8th lv Wizard(starting as 9th with your new lv in Wizard), but, obviously, you're running off of the class abilities(but not spells) of a 6th lv Wizard.

Thanks Loneflame, however thats not quite the question I have.

If you break from Wizard (for example) you can come back and there are still plenty of spell levels left. However Suel Archanamech has only 10 spell levels, so it is easy to have more than 10 levels of "+1 to existing class" e.g.

10 Suel Archanamech, 3 Abjurant Champion,

which would advance the Suel A to 13 levels of spells, but the spell table is only 10 levels long), its spell levels 11-13 that I'm thinking about

You'd get CL for those extra three levels, but no additional spells per day/known.

yeah, just as if you were going epic, you would get new CL but not spells/powers.

Because you've hit the limit to the class's increase in spells per day

thanks all.

Is a shame, I was thinking of extending the spell table, but I guess its fair.

If anything I'd do (keep in mind this is rough not a real something just something off the top of my head that's fast)

Bard 2
Fighter 4
Suel Arcanamach (atleast up to 4 maybe higher depends on player)
Sublime Chord 1
Abjurant Champion 5
Eldritch Knight 4 (or any other spellcasting warrior class)

That's a 20 lvl progression and you'll cast lvl 9 spells, by 20. You'll have a base attack of +17 (4 attacks) If you want something better than I'm sure anyone can think of something this is just something fast. I'm not sure if you've already put this character together or not.

Sorry for the small thread-hijack, but where's the abjurant champion from?

Abjurant Champion is in Complete Mage, I believe.

Yep, Complete Mage. It's arguably one of the best Gish(front-line mage) prestige classes out there.

wow, thats not bad, too late for me though, I have Ftr5, Suel 2, Abjurant Champion 2. (Got in early to SA, with some more restrictions to spell casting)
I think I'll finish AC, take Suel to 4 then go to something new
