| Illusion11-28-04, 07:52 PM | As the title says, let's see what interesting character concepts you have. My first one: 1) the neutral cleric of St. Cuthbert who wont heal his party untill the end of combat. He believes that one must earn the right to healing magic, living by their own power until their enimies have been vanquished. |
| Dr. Pepper11-28-04, 08:02 PM | The rich warlock/aristocrat who only practices the dark arts (they'll have to be dark in his world  ) because of selfish, shallow feelings about magic, coming from his foul treatment as a schoolboy in the capital city. |
| Ramses III11-28-04, 08:05 PM | I like swords. |
| Darion Fenix11-28-04, 08:13 PM | An "Arabic" nobleman from a fallen family adventuring in the more traditional European-esque setting. He constantly complains about how cold it is and is very angry at anyone who treats a horse poorly. (Fighter with a focus on mounted combat feats) I've always liked playing characters who are out of their element. Or just have something to complain about! The former captain a thousand miles inland. The idealistic fighter who prefers to work alone but is forced to team up with others to accomplish his goals. The arrogant scholastic sorcerer among barbarians and dense fighters... And a favorite...the human rogue (suave, charismatic and deceptive) paired up with a dwarf fighter (loud, crass, brash, rude). |
| Magic Man w/ Magic Hands11-28-04, 08:20 PM | Hmm... So I guess this is #4 (I'm not sure if "I like swords counts"). 4) A hexblade who derives his powers from a near supernatural level of cynicysm, derived from being killed many times in the past and resurrected by various kindly priests. A nice, low wisdom score is a must. And if the game is starting at 1st level, perhaps a lower than average constitution as well. |
| Darion Fenix11-28-04, 08:29 PM | One that I've actually played, but it's a fun idea so I invite anyone to run with it... A slightly crazed fighter who earned the title "Lizardwhacker" after beating 3 kobolds to death...with a 4th kobold. (1d6 improvised weapon, 2 handed) |
| Moon-Lancer11-28-04, 08:40 PM | #6: A elvish Dervish who was once a bard who has a magical electric Guitar with blades at the base. When ever he feels angered he plays rock music and goes into an angry dervish dance with his vorpal musical instrument. At the end of the battle (or dance) he smashes his/her musical instrument until the neck snaps. He/She has to repair it in town many many times. |
| Ramses III11-28-04, 08:41 PM | Hmm... Go to www.nuklearpower.com and you will understand why "I like swords" counts. Trust me. It does. OK, a real one. The scion of a noble house who were charged with maintaining the seals that bind a host of demons out of the material plane. The nobles of the house betrayed their duty and consorted with the demons. They were discovered by the King's Inquisitors who laid their lands to waste and killed all of the family that they could find -- but this character escaped. He travels in disguise as a wandering knight with no lord, but seeks to build a reputation so he can reveal himself as the heir and restore the honor of his once-great family. |
| Magic Man w/ Magic Hands11-28-04, 08:44 PM | A magically preserved kobold would make an interesting weapon. Especially if it had extra magical enchantments. 8) An academic wizard who thinks of magic as "the easy way out." Unless there is something incredibly important, he/she will only use magic as a last resort. Feel free to use any sort of conspiracy theory as to why magic is bad. If it is a good aligned character, simply mention the corrupting influence of magic. Perhaps a chaotic character would avoid using magic "because they can," or even just to annoy others. Edit: Yes, I read nuklearpower. I think that thief rules, even though I don't play rogues often. You have to respect his ability to loot entire cities, sell the loot to pawn shops, then loot the pawn shops, and then sell the loot to other pawn shops, which are then looted. It's amazing. |
| Jkol the Butcher11-29-04, 12:48 PM | A wizard from an obscure order, that holds it self for the self-regulation of all spellcasters. He focuses in deep Abjuration lore (Specialist). Though he does not posses any knowledge of spells involving life or illusion (prohibited schools Necro/illusion). He empowers him self with spells that protect allies and disable spellcaster foes. He views himself as judge and jury (and sometimes executioner) and correspondingly empowers himself with power enchantments and evocations with which to mete out punishments. |
| Incensius11-29-04, 02:06 PM | Edit: Yes, I read nuklearpower. I think that thief rules, even though I don't play rogues often. You have to respect his ability to loot entire cities, sell the loot to pawn shops, then loot the pawn shops, and then sell the loot to other pawn shops, which are then looted. It's amazing. I think Ramses meant fighter SWORD CHUCKS YO! :P A squire....that's right....a squire....of a really REALLY stupid paladin (inspired by a paladin player i'm a friend of). The squire despises the paladin but is so good at hiding his hatred that the paladin in his utter stupidity doesn't realize how the squire is slowly drifting down the blackguard's path. After a few years of servitude, the squire will finally leave the paladin in a heated arguement. A year or so later he returns in a black full plate mail and faces the paladin as an anger filled ex-squire, current blackguard. He manages to slice off the paladin's arm, then casts boneblade on it and decapitates the paladin with it..... *huffing sounds* erm.....oops....got a bit.....carried away there..... |
| monkmania11-29-04, 03:23 PM | I played a homosexual bugbear fighter... he got into pretty saucy situations due to the fact that the campaign focussed around a naval setting... those sailors sure do get lonely out there at sea, hehehe... it's too bad his 8 charisma didn't help him much. he had a long standing crush on the dwarven fighter of the group, and would "go shopping" with him for armor and weapons, and would "bond" with him by hunting and such. the dwarf never knew the bugbear was into him (in fact, no one in the party knew he was gay, only the dm). one time, the dwarf fell in battle, and my bugbear's heal check (wisdom 8) consisted of mostly tongue. good stuff, hehe. and his chauvanistic intelligent sword didn't appreciate that his owner was gay. edit: anyway, playing a closet homosexual/transexual/whatever adds a layer of character to whatever class you decide to play (fighter in my case), and it's a good lead for some hilarious situations. |
| Bane11-29-04, 04:32 PM | 12) A powerful Bard/Sublime Chord who masquerades as being just a halfway decent bard. When necessary, he will pull out the Greater Teleport to save the party members collective butts, then tell them he used his last scroll to do it. The party won't have any clue what the bard can do until he pulls out all the stops to prevent/cause (alignment based) some incredible catastrophe. |
| MattHawk11-29-04, 04:52 PM | 13) Play a druid who, at the behest of a higher level druid of his circle, is presently helping a lawful/good were-creature (another party member) find his new place in the world... by pretending the were-creature is your animal companion, so you can sneak him around without people freaking out about a were-something being present. Guards still freak out that you have a tiger/wolf/bear following you, but not as much :) |
| Darion Fenix11-29-04, 05:07 PM | Ha! A magically preserved kobold! Brilliant! I'm not sure which is a better story...beating kobolds to death by swinging around another kobold by the ankles...or fighting a zombie with his own arm while chanting "stop hitting yourself!" My current character is the aforementioned idealistic fighter. He refuses to kill humanoids and most all sapient creatures. Needless to say a warrior with an abnormal sense of life preservation is interesting...and kind of annoying for other party members. "What do you mean we can't kill the orcs!?!" "I said don't KILL them NOT to stop fighting!" Thankfully my DM let me spend a feat to deal nonlethal damage with lethal weapons with no penalty to my attack. |
| BlaclOut11-29-04, 05:16 PM | 14) I played an Half-Deva Ranger to Epic level(23) and lets say so, He kicked ass, the most fun part of him was that when he toth he cut fly in under an Chaos rock and kill it, well, he dit succed, but the rock landet on him, the knok in the head, combindet with the lack of air in 4 min, madet him skizo, tis personal other self is a wizard of 2 level, and his a couard. he will flee from an standart goblin if it draws a dagger :P and onse when the dava was fighting against a four headet hydre and my compainongs tok out the Drow's well, i failet my will check (dc 16) and well, the wizard poped uå in my heat, think how scared he was :P |
| Mirikon11-29-04, 06:34 PM | 15) A wizard who is known to people only as the Black Mage. His lifelong goal is to become the strongest wizard in existance, regardless of the cost... to others. He spent time developing a spell that takes a bit of the love in the world and turns it into a coherent beam of destruction, using up a little of it each time. He calls this spell Hadoken. |
| Magic Man w/ Magic Hands11-29-04, 10:57 PM | 15) A wizard who is known to people only as the Black Mage. His lifelong goal is to become the strongest wizard in existance, regardless of the cost... to others. He spent time developing a spell that takes a bit of the love in the world and turns it into a coherent beam of destruction, using up a little of it each time. He calls this spell Hadoken. GROOOARG! NUKLEAR POWER OVERDOSE!! ;) 16) A young/very young/ECLable red dragon with culinary skills. In addition to having raw, monsterous goodness, he can also cook up amazing meals almost instantaneously! Be sure to include some sort of item to take human form so that people don't massacre you randomly. Also, this would explain how he got chef's training. He would probably enjoy cooking people/villages in new and interesting ways, perhaps using some sort of magic item that creates massive amounts of seasoning. 17) Now that I'm onto food, how about a halfling battlebread master? Take some master thower goodness, add some skiprocks made of expertly crafted bread, season liberally, and enjoy. |
| Rando the spiffy11-29-04, 11:24 PM | a lawful good dwarven necormancer/ blood mage whos afraid of the undead and feints at the sight of blood. |
| Ramses III11-30-04, 12:02 AM | Yeah, and a chimney sweep with no arms! A swashbuckler who is an affluent merchant with connections to a ruthless thieves' guild, with favors owed on both sides. Sometimes he adventures for profit, sometimes because his associates twist his arms. |
| mercurywyrm11-30-04, 03:44 AM | A Half-Elf wizardess (divinner w/no necro) who was an orphan but was raised by a goodly gnome wizard (also divinner w/no necro) and at an early age, during some planar travel with her "father" was inspired by a swarm of celestial dragonflies. Has a large number of unique spells developed based around dragonflies including one that summons a celestial dragonfly swarm. Her skill at item creation has led to several unique magic items as well, inluding the amazing rod of the dragonfly, ring of the dragonfly, cloak of the dragonfly, staff of the dragonfly, robe of the dragonfly, the dragonfly helm,,the dragonfly lute, dragonfly javalin, Full Plate of the dragonfly, Brestplate of the dragonfly, Armor("leather") of the dragonfly, ribbon of kisses, spiked scarf, summoning burrow, celestial gloves, and the giant celestial dragonfly wonderous figurine. (been working on this character concept for a while, major spellcaster in my own homebrew setting, probably on par with such legends as mordenkainen and elminister in influence when comparing to other settings) |
| Mirikon11-30-04, 11:29 AM | An orc Wizard who is a disciple of Pelor. A fighter named Maxim who has developed, among other things, the special technique of the 'escape dummy', and has a green slime as a cohort. |
| nyysjan11-30-04, 12:41 PM | 23. (i Think) Changeling Artificer that wishes to unlock the mysteries of Xen'drik and keeps Clawfoot dinosaurs as pets (you need to be familiar with Eberron setting for this) 24. Awakened Clawfoot Dinosaur that pretends to be an normal mount in order to be close to his halfling ranger "mistress" on whom he has a crush on(you need to be familiar with Eberron setting for this too) |
| Alchahest11-30-04, 04:47 PM | 25) A character of mine from AD&D S&P; before level one, he was a new knight and uh, got caught with the duke's daughter. lost his sword hand for it. Became a chef, got tuberculosis, and managed to pass it on to the duke himself, who died of it. accused of regicide, he was on the run, one-handed, coughing blood, and eventually cursed, after joining another party of wrongfully-accused. Even with only having one arm, and a disease that would send him into coughing fits, he stayed as a fighter through his entire carreer, and ended up recieving the favour and grace of the god of war for his dogged determination. of course, he didn't get his hand back, or a cease to his coughing, but he /did/ get a nice shield that he could strap to his stump. and throughout it all, he was an amazing chef. |
| Illusion12-05-04, 07:41 PM | :bump: |
| The Arbiter of Truth12-05-04, 07:58 PM | A gnome, who was originally a bugbear but got reincarnated. Being a barbarian was harder after that... Kept forgetting he was short. :rimshot: |
| Kevlimin Soulaxe12-05-04, 09:45 PM | 27) Gnomish rogue/Fang of Lolth that carries around six whips and six saps and beats opponents into unconsiousness before coup de graceing them with any old thing lying around(chairs, plates, vials, small animals, rocks, their own weapons, basically anthing, doors). It great. |
| Osiris Memnoch12-05-04, 10:04 PM | Necromancer who suffers from amnesia after being resurected during training. He can't remember a lot of things he did during his training, but has terrible nightmares about them. He's neutral but tries to repent for the bad things that he had once done. Likes using knives. Is missing his left pinky which was bitten off by a skeleton. Flesh around the finger's stub is black and charred. Usually wears a glove but removes it to make intimdate checks or touch attacks. |
| DracoRuler12-05-04, 10:12 PM | ive got three fighter/necro/cleric of death who is absolutely obsessed with death...(and eventually undeath, after he kills himself and becomes a lich) finds it his duty to kill absolutely everything that exists...he's crazy! bugbear barbarian who's face is half contorted and ugly, he was found by clerics of erythnul, and they beleived that he was sent by erythnul, so they trained him as a cleric, and eventually a ravager, fun fun fun and finally, my favorite, 2 halflings, elton and aldon who work, think, fight, do everthing together, think the pillbugs from A Bug's Life...they are fighter/monk, or just fighter, dual wielding, with all the co-op feats, the ultimate tag-team |
| angryman12-05-04, 10:20 PM | A wizard (or sorcerer or battlemage) who used to fight as one of the king's warmages. One day his recon unit entered a human village full of Orcs, with a pile of human heads in the main courtyard, so in a rage he destroyed the village with flame and demonic things. Only after the smoke cleared did he find the charred bodies of tied and gagged human prisoners inside the houses. He suggests to his unit of mercenaries that if any word of this gets out, they will all be hanged, or worse. They all agree on a secret pact not to reveal the truth, and they all desert en masse. The wizard changes his name and identity and heads into the wilderness to escape justice. |
| Dur6!12-05-04, 10:43 PM | The bard who seduces women, has sex with them, then kills them. The Chaotic Evil cannibalistic barbarian who wanders the countryside and oneday happens upon a town. wanders in and starts eating people. |
| Sakaki2212-05-04, 11:18 PM | Some of my fun ones: Kender Samurai. No explanation necessary. A Monk who uses nothing but longswords. A mute Drow that can only communicate with Drow Sign Language. A Kapak Draconian Healer. Brings new meaning to "licking your wounds". A Half-Gold Silver Dragon o_O |
| Sci_Fi_Samurai12-06-04, 01:12 AM | A brutish, female fighter who is outstandingly the most powerful fighter in the group, besting and emasculating every male in the party. She focuses on the wilderness-type classes, like Barbarian and Ranger. There’s actually a character build that’s really good for this that allows the Foe Hunter to get hated enemy evil, but I can’t remember what it was… |
| metez_the_dark12-06-04, 05:13 AM | A desert nomad that is used to guarding water like its more valuable that gold. Then is put into a moderate climate and while with the group (who waste water) comes across a lake or river. He'll think he hit the jack pot LOL |
| digoraccoon12-06-04, 08:28 AM | Kobold Paladin with Celestial Wardog mount. Had one as an NPC in my game and he made a really good Role Playing opportunity to interact with. A gentleman to the ladies and a fairly skilled tactician. :D Rogue: "Wait, you're a paladin? But you're a Kobold!" Paladin: "Yes, I am both, quite the observant one you are." Ranger: "No offense, but last kobolds we saw speared us. Why are you... civilized?" Paladin: "I suppose Pelor & Bahamut kicked me out on the wrong side of the bed to the call of justice, and here I am." Cleric: "Finally, someone civilized that understands the true nature of the gods." Rogue & Ranger: "Hey!" O_O |
| ArochanoX12-06-04, 08:35 AM | Chaotic ranger hippie, who loves grass and anything green as sacred. Hates everything and everyone who stands on grass without his permission. I've even played that one :D |
| Shyunal Drakaven12-06-04, 02:45 PM | A pally with masochistic desires. Her god specifically forbids masochism, so she finds herself seeking out battle in the HOPE of getting wounded. Constantly hates herself for her desires, which increase her guilt, which increase her desires. An elf woman who was captured and enslaved by Yuan-ti. Has a permanent aversion to snakes and really any reptillian creatures, but occasionally will go bezerk and attack anything nearby that has scales. Of course, the fact that she is a barbarian adds to the strangeness. A drow who was part of a peaceful, good aligned drow surface community that humans wiped out because they were drow. Became a wizard, and is currently seeking a way to wipe humanity from the multiverse. An Elan psion who studies the creation of planes and is obsessed with creating his own Material Plane - even if he has to destroy the current one to do it. An Emancipated Spawn Ghoul that spends it's free time caring for little children in an orphanage, the same as he did when he was alive. A dwarf who is completely convinced he can fly, despite all evidence to the contrary. A halfling that, due to a genetic flaw, is six foot tall and about as smart as your average orc with brain damage. A half troll with downs-syndrome and a love of butterflies. (Don't laugh. I played this character, and he was one of the most tragic characters I've ever played.) A tiefling that lived in a tiefling community but grew up with a tender side and a hatred of evil, who wound up becoming a paladian. An alcoholic elf wizard who is twice the girth of the average elf. An awakened velociraptor ranger that has turned vegetarian, and is slowly starving to death as he tries to find a way to feed his carnivorous digestive system. An idiotic, swaggering braggart of a paladin, known for drinking, womanizing, and other similar behavior. The catch? The Paladin’s a she. A schizophrenic gnome wizard who believes that Orcus and Asmodeus have allied together to hunt him down. He has auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations. |
| Illusion12-08-04, 10:10 PM | ..... |
| ehrin12-09-04, 01:26 PM | gnome illusionist who thinks she is a human druid. She thinks she was shrunk to half size by an evil curse, and her familiar is her animal companion. All her spells mimic what she thinks druids use (unseen servant is a summoned air elemental, etc.). |
| Mirikon12-09-04, 02:24 PM | A Half-vampire Warlock who hates undead. He knows his lineage, and has taken it upon himself to hunt down undead (vampires in particular) wherever he might find them, and destroy them. Unfortunately, his half-vampire heritage means he has a craving for the blood of the living. |
| Kihlrahl12-09-04, 02:48 PM | A demented psionic warrior/illusionist (think magician) who kills for sport. A mindflayer has his mind removed and placed within the cavernous skull of the Shire's village idiot. |
| theOne33312-09-04, 04:17 PM | A scion of a secretive noble family that has been practicing warlockry for generations. He has inherited his family's hereditary warlock magic, but also a natural predilection towards good. He leaves his family and tries to expunge his perceived taint by using his abilities for good in an adventuring group. The dark force his family is bound to constantly attempts to tempt him to evil, and his family tries to "bring him back into the fold." Major good acts enrage his foul patron, causing it to forgo temptation and attempt to dominate him and force him to commit atrocities that will stain his soul, bringing him closer to evil. Both family and evil entity set up adventure situations that will corrode his goodness. |
| Ancient Wyrm12-09-04, 09:05 PM | Ang-Ran, alias (to his friends) Son of the Mountain Breeze, alias (to his enemies) the Avalanche. A mighty yeti raised in a secluded mountaintop monastary by human monks, surpassing all his teachers to become a peerless fighter, renowned throughout the monastic world for his mastery of the Fist of Karma technique. As the monastary's greatest warrior, he is charged with the care and protection of the infant reincarnation of its abbot, and develops a bond with the child far beyond that of a mere bodyguard. One night, the child is kidnapped, and Ang-Ran finds a note explaining the kidnapper's sadistic game: one hundred infants in the care of the one hundred greatest warriors in the world have been taken to a certain city. The last warrior standing gets his or her child back. With a heavy heart, Ang-Ran sets off for this city, hoping that he can foil the kidnappers and save all the children, but knowing that he may have to commit atrocities to get back his abbot - and also knowing that if he has to, he will. Kesh-Katar, formerly alias the King of Knives. A thri-kreen rogue/invisible blade who was once the most feared assassin on the plane: ruthless, even bloodthirsty, and very, very good at what he did. But now, Kesh-Katar has retired to lead his small nomadic tribe in peaceful obscurity, mellowing from evil to true neutrality. His retirement came more out of tiredness than actual repentence; he killed so easily, and came to see it as simply futile. He does not, however, like to look back upon his past, and has locked away his once-dreaded collection of throwing knives. But now his beloved daughter, symbol to him of his new life of peace, has been kidnapped in the same cruel plot that Ang-Ran finds himself in, and, after reading the kidnappers' note, wordlessly (thoughtlessly?) leaves his tent to dig up a trunk at a certain oasis and strap on the familiar weight of his old knife-bandoliers. Kesh-Katar has little, if any, of Ang-Ran's moralizing on his mind; all he wants is his child back, and bloody vengeance on those with the vileness to do such a thing. Will this tired ex-assassin regress fully back into old habits? Or can he save both his daughter and his soul? Or will one of the ninety-nine other "invitants" kill him before he can do either? (Side Note: Kesh-Katar is min-maxed out the wazoo, and was a Rogue 11/Invisible Blade 5/Master Thrower 1 long before he had even a name. But when people speak of min-maxing as if it's detrimental to roleplay, I think of him and chuckle. And I love the idea of something as alien as a thri-kreen displaying such human emotions.) (EDIT: Another Side Note: There's an itch at the back of my mind telling me thri-kreen may not have genders. Well, these thri-kreen do, all right?) |
| TinManFan12-10-04, 01:33 AM | A VOP Sorc (w/ Eschew Mat Comps of course) who's as bloodthirsty as they come when it comes to fighting evil (esp Demons and Devils). However, he sees his own bloodlust reflected in the eyes of the demons he fights against, and sees himself going down that path. He then decides to whole heartedly embrace peaceful resolutions no matter the cost and takes VoN-V and VoPeace. Using his HIGH ***** dip skill (Those vows and cha mods don't hurt), he's taken it upon himself to reform all the villians he subdues and turn them to the path of the light. His goal is to reform a race of usually Evil beasties. Altho the locals might not like it if a well organized orchoarde comes marching thru with idealistic goals that still kill them, but trot out the Dip skill again and everyone will be on his side again. As a player, this is a concept I thinking about going for my next campaign. Wonder if I can Sorc 10, Apostle of Peace 2, Mystic Theurge 8 just to be completely powergamey about it. Along the same route, thinking of having a campaign in an urban setting. Having an Urban Ranger (UArcanna), A Diviner and a Bard form a detective agencey that hunts down criminals in a large Waterdeep-esque city. |
| Orrick12-11-04, 07:58 PM | A Bard with a purple wizards outfit with the pointy hat and silver stars emboidered on it with a lute that resembles a flying V. His guitar also doubles as a club. |
| ragnarofburland12-11-04, 09:10 PM | The Dwarf that has borderline scitzophrenia because he discovered his innate spellcasting ability. Who dresses like Merlin with a star hat and everything. Who would rather get in close and fight with his Dwarven Waraxe and use a Maximized Fireball as a LAST resort. The Human so obbsessed with versatility he takes Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, Spellsword, Mystic Theurage and Rogue because he must be better than everyone at everything. (Because you know Wielding Fireball's and commanding a certifiable miniture Platoon due to Leadership just wasn't enough.) The Homeric Bard (A Blind Bard) The Epic Level Spellcaster Wizard Nerd who seeks to make an Epic True Breeding Spell so HE can breed with it. |
| Light Dragon12-13-04, 10:49 PM | The resurrected character who refuses to slay the undead because of the torment he experienced in the afterlife. The character cursed with incessant sounds coming from his mouth when he's not speaking. (could be a terrible drawback when the party is trying to hide) ;) |
| Gilganarz_the_reporter12-14-04, 12:45 AM | The dwarf who uses a big french stick as a weapon. Anyone guess where that one's from? |
| Zetakya12-14-04, 01:01 AM | I played a rogue based on Lady deWinter from Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers once. She was great fun. Evil, but fun. Playing an Evil Cleric without having your Party realise that you are evil is a challenge. Because spontaneous casting yields Inflict for you, you have to memorise a lot of Cure spells and be careful with your abilities around Undead. Wands of Cure are handy. A Monk who, finding it ever harder to maintain strict devotion to the precepts of the Monastic orders, eventually falls from Lawful allignment towards neutrality, becoming a more worldly and adept at underhanded tactics (multiclass RP method Monk/Rogue) |
| Kitzan Ulvatiz12-14-04, 01:06 AM | The insane half pixie druid who stabs anyone who lights a match in her forst with her dual katars. ::sobs in a corner "How i miss you 'Protector'":: |
| Psyker Nel'Restynn12-14-04, 03:01 AM | I played this once, it was FUN. A Lawful Good half-Silver Dragon Paladin 5/Sorceror 10. He started his carreer training to be a paladin, got his mighty mount and, in MO, the coolest aspects of a paladin. At heart he is still a mighty paladin, but the call of sorcery beckoned to him to much for him to deny it. So he continues to smite evil, but now he does it with his +5 Celestial Great Sword, cone of cold breath wepon, and fireballs!! Suffice it to say, the other members of my party were a bit perturbed. lol IMC, Half-Dragons have only minor aspects of their draconic heritage. They look like rather tall and slim humans, they are not entirely scaled, only up to the elbows, and smalls patches asymetrically across his body. Damn it was fun playing him . . . . |
| Harry12-14-04, 04:05 AM | A Lantern Archon Cleric, who is a gift from the god and keeps flying around the battlefield and healing allies, eventually massacring enemies with his light rays of DOOM :D . |
| Alchahest12-14-04, 04:09 AM | The dwarf who uses a big french stick as a weapon. Anyone guess where that one's from? Puck, from Alpha Flight? |
| s4uc3m4n12-14-04, 02:43 PM | The angel of death. A fun class, yet hard to master. You must maintain True Neutrality at all times. The truest of judges. Your weapon, the Scythe. Half Fighter - Half Cleric. You roam around in search of those who deserve the final action of death and you bring it to them swiftly. You should never take a hostage unless it is the right of others to judge the condemed. It's an easy build, but tough to play because you have to keep a real form of neutrality. |
| DracoRuler12-14-04, 08:56 PM | ok, i forgot one the legendary human monk who, after easily defeating his master, finds that ordinary humans are too easy a fight, and seeks to find someone, somewhere, who can challenge him in combat. And eventually starts a world-renown monestary in some extremely remote environment, where people must survive to become students, or something like that. actually tried to play that...it didnt work very well... |
| Mirikon12-14-04, 09:08 PM | ok, i forgot one the legendary human monk who, after easily defeating his master, finds that ordinary humans are too easy a fight, and seeks to find someone, somewhere, who can challenge him in combat. And eventually starts a world-renown monestary in some extremely remote environment, where people must survive to become students, or something like that. actually tried to play that...it didnt work very well... Sounds better as an NPC, Draco. Here's another one: A medusa who has discovered an innate talent for magic, becoming a sorcerer. On an adventure to sack a temple of Pelor, she was cursed by one of the clerics there to feel the pain of the people she'd killed. Now she adventures on a quest for redemption. |

| wagner_9802-08-05, 10:44 AM | A Lawful Evil Rogue/Assassin whose best friend was a Paladin. In one adventure we ended up in a city that was completely LG and Paladins there could detect alignment instead of detect evil. My character kept showing up as a blank thanks to a ring of undetectable alignment. He kept getting the "evil eye" from all the guards. He was totally creeped out the entire time. He was there to kill the Constable and the Paladin was there because he had a dream about the church. In the end my Assassin saves the church and the Paladin Killed the Constable. Total role reversal. |
| Demonwolf02-08-05, 06:22 PM | 1) Half-orc nobleman: You grew up with your human mother on the streets, and taught yourself how to fight as you recognized your own talent. One day, you entered a combat tournament and were 'beaten' by an arrogant nobleman who cheated you out your title. You held your rage, and vowed that by the next tournament, you would match him in every way- in prestige, power, intellect, sophistication, and most importantly, battle. You are renowned in the courts and are certainly no dumb brute, but you always dress humbly, though elegantly, and your odd choice of the spear over the rapier in the dueling ring is often noted. They see the duel as a game. You know that it is war. 2) CG Tiefling Bard: Like most other tieflings, you haven't much of a conscience, and your sociopathic tendencies show in the way you approach combat, ethics and diplomacy. However, unlike most people, it is not conscience that drives your morality. You feel no guilt. Rather, it is simply because your childhood was starved of love, and when you tasted it for the first time during your teenage years, you craved to give and get more of it. You discovered something you never knew you had- a soul, which led you take up the path of the bard. You love those around you and serve the greater good, but your utter cruelty in battle and willingness to manipulate unnerve those around you. |
| Treetrip Danglefoot02-08-05, 08:59 PM | A clever inventor who grew bored with the accounting, inventory, and economics of running a business, and instead adventured into the world. He carries no inventions, but rather invents things out of handy objects when necessity shows its face. Normal inventions involve atomic bombs, constructed from a door handle, a piece of string, a snorkle, and a stick of chewing gum. Everything he has invented was at one time or another, a 6th grade science project. |
| James Wildspell02-08-05, 11:50 PM | A Half-Orc Bard. I'm thinking a barritone opera singer. Perhaps with a very sad past: nothing but a series of failed love affairs, lost both of his parents very young, etc., but still very talented and a really great performer. The class abilities could all remain the same except for flavor/role-playing factors. :allalone: :allalone: :raincloud :raincloud ________________________________________ ________________________ This is a brand new thought, unrelated to the above. Let me know what you think. How about a speech-writer Bard? Could a balanced feat be made here that enables a Bard to author for and coach another to increase their public appeal? What skills would be required? Would it have to be restriced to Bards, and if so, would it require a minimum level? Who could benefit from this? :thinks: :thinks: |
| The Wasp02-09-05, 04:26 AM | An albino half-orc barbarian, who is highly delusional (very low wisdom). Because of his very unnatural complexion, red eyes, slightly feral features, and slight orcish fangs, he decided at a young age that he was actually a vampire. He imagines that his life is a constant struggle to supress his "true vampiric tendencies," and whenever he sees blood, he becomes a bit psychotic. To make things more fun, he has a cloak of the bat... Played him in a one shot... |

Do you think you could introduce me to your friend over there? yes the hunchbacked half-orc... is he taken?" A barbarian who gains sorceror levels... without knowing he has them. ( The only spells he gets are self-enhancement and protection spells[Jump, Mage Armor, Bull's Strength, etc.]) An LN enchanter with visible fire scarring on his face from a childhood accident. He casts no fire spells and most of his spells seem to be ice-related(Grease is simply an icy patch, Web uses tendrils of ice instead of "webbing", Glitterdust looks like snow....even his Magic Missile looks like a blue icicle bolt) |

Venerable Wizard who casts silence in every fight to "keep down that awful noise" Warlock uses UMD to cast Glibness and continues to make the local ruler to believe he is actually a wizard so that he (once employed) can benefit from the better salary (read: money to maintain laberatory/spell research) Warlock casts Walk Unseen in the beginning of the day, forgets about it and tells people to "look at me when I'm talkin' to you, boy" in a texan accent. Half-orc Barbarian with an Int of 6 with Int 18 Wizard cohort. Tells the wizard to "stop being a sissy and lend a hand" whenever fighting is near. |
| Redmoon05-06-05, 09:33 PM | Kythsharr Mykillor A kobold convinced that he is a red dragon, polymorphed into a kobold. A trick played on him by the gods, no one knows wether he truly was a dragon or not. He's a psion, who manifests firey spells. All of his displays are flames, or the sound of flames. His powers are slightly modified, too.. Mechanically the same, but most deal fire damage, rather than whatever is normal. Or deal the same damage, but look like fire. A dwarven pirate. Has a hook for a hand (mechanically, it's a sickle, and he has the Graft Weapon power). He's Captain Hook. Only a dwarf. He intimidates everyone, yet he's honestly a coward himself. bard, but with reverse abilities ("deathsinger"). Instead of granting bonuses to allies, his powers give penalties to enemies. Also has levels in rogue, and Fighter. An awakened monkey that lives on the same ship as the dwarven pirate. Everyone assumes that he is the shipmage's familiar. Straight rogue. Shipmage - battle sorcerer, going towards Lorekeeper. All of his spells are water and air spells. His spells are powered by a genetic tie to Umberlee.("Umbrella" in our campaign). He cannot cast ANY spells with the Fire descriptor. Calls himself the Windfinder. Familiar is an air elemental. Generally buffs, summons (water & air elementals, kraken, sharks, alligators, pirannha), and then casts elemental spells. |
| Wexquif05-07-05, 06:27 PM | gnome illusionist who thinks she is a human druid. She thinks she was shrunk to half size by an evil curse, and her familiar is her animal companion. All her spells mimic what she thinks druids use (unseen servant is a summoned air elemental, etc.). :D One time in this video game (Neverwinter Nights, its based on D&D) I played a half-orc sorcerer who thought she was an elf druid. Anyhow, I don't know psionics work , but I am writing a story with him: Jon and Psion This extreme schizo (sp) only manifest when the psion, who feld into his brain to escape death, takes over. He is really a wilder. |
| Fox Lee05-08-05, 12:38 AM | I really have lost count of which ones actually qualify and which don't, so no nubers here ^^; Here are a couple that are more serious and less goofy/funny than the majority. I've tried to make these general enough that they are "concepts" rather than pre-written characters... :p A) A shield-bearing Paladin (or appropriate holy warrior class... my favoured choice is the Adherent (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=419058)), who of course specialises in shield-bashes/charges and so forth. He (or she, of course) and his mentor undertook a mission years ago to destroy a two powerful, evil magical items - a paired sword and shield. They were unable to destroy the items, however, and thus each of them took the duty of keeping/guarding one item; going their separate ways to keep the items from coming together, they vowed that, should either one of them fall prey to the evil influence of the items, it would be the duty of the other to track down and slay his former ally in the name of the greater good. The adventuring hook for the character, of course, is that his mentor (for some reason) succumbed to said evil influence. Angst ahoy! And hey, it's even more fun if you make the two in question siblings, or even lovers. B) A Warlock (or, for preference, the Psionic version of the Warlock developed for our campaign setting) whose powers are more like an malevolent entity than spells. He believes that his powers stem from an exotic full-body tattoo placed on him by an "evil" cult when he was a child, and has devoted himself to hunting them down and destroying them in order to prevent anybody else from suffering as he did; the truth is, in fact, that the evil presence was inherent in him, and the tattoo actually prevents it from taking him over wholesale. Of course, the more he kills, the more he gains levels, the more he weakens the tattoo's power... Hmm... those are the only ones I can bring to mind ATM. I'll probably add more later. |
| Allanon'sAvatar05-11-05, 11:16 AM | a half elf ranger/rogue/fighter/tempest who dual wields katanas, and has hunted demons ever since his village was destroyed by them,he was saved when the demons were killed by a wandering samurai who also died in the battle, and the character now has the samurai's katana. thanks to the wield oversized weapon feat and the tempest class he will have no penalties for using 2 katanas :D |
| Rappacion05-11-05, 02:49 PM | Here are some of my better ideas...(and this is my first post in these forums, so huzzah for me, baby!) A lawful-neutral Paladin of the god of money/merchants who insists on receiving payment for any spells he/she casts or laying on hands. Adept at "legal speak" and merrily goes about drawing up contracts between him/herself and other party members or NPCs. An orphan raised by the ringmaster of the largest circus in the land; is a lawful good Monk who dresses like a clown and appears as though he/she is completely inept at any kind of combat but is in fact kicking major ass. Only speaks in riddles and rhetorical questions and is seeking the "nirvanic punch-line," whatever the hell that is. A wizard who firmly believes that all magic can be derived from certain mathematical equations, and quests to find the true "root" of magical power. When detecting magic, the various magical fields appear to the wizard as significantly different complex algorithms. A nobleperson who is so rich, he/she only drinks magical potions to quench their thirst. After years of this, strange things start happening to the body...but that's nothing a little Potion of Cat's Grace can't fix! Glug glug glug...ahhh...fine vintage. Things I've learned from playing these characters: Paladin: It's best that the rest of your party do NOT know you're refusing to remove a disease from a dying orphan because they don't have the 10 gold in payment. Monk: Clowns, for the most part, can get away with some crazy stuff. No one fingers the clown. Wizard: Knowledge(Mathematics) can be abused like no one's business. Noble: Make sure to label the potions...this is KEY. Sorry my post was so long...I love this thread. |
| mjtyson05-11-05, 03:55 PM | Human monk who studied the aiki-kai style of aikido and refuses to kill anyone, but will grapple and incapacitate evil doers. |
| Drittz05-11-05, 05:00 PM | The character I'm playing currently is. A male elven paladin. Who was betroved to a Female Elven Druid. It is an arranged marrage. She had to serve her grove for a set time so the wedding was put on hold. Durning that time the Grove was attacked and corrupted. The paladin tried to save the grove and the druid. Because of her tie to the grove the Druid lost her true physical form. So she is suck in animal forms. They are twisted in little ways Such as a cat with two tails or scales. Game wise, I lost my mount and Animal Com. The paladin has the leadership feat the the druid is the Follower. My Dm is letting me use the Spell linked feature between the two to represent thier Elven Bond. It been fun so far. I have lists of strange things to show the different quirks in her animal forms. |
| TekDark05-11-05, 05:28 PM | I'm planning on playing this but I don't know jet. Rouge/drunken master (race doesn't realy matter) he is the son of a famous Rouge, tries to follow in his fathers footsteps but fails utterly, like breaking into the wrong houses, etc. Tries to drink his falieurs away and gets picked up by some drukenmaster because he's such a big drinker |
| Aki Warren05-11-05, 05:32 PM | Here are some I've played The Smiling Barbarian. Due to the fact he is quite sadistic, whenever he rages he begins smiling. He just can't seem to stop smiling and the more he kills the broader it grows. However, whenever he sees a woman getting hurt, he rages and there is no smile. He's got a manical grin like that of a teenager who owns his own harem. He delights in "Justice" killing, claiming he gets off scott free. ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Aiel Man. It just freaked the crud out of the people who never even heard of WoT. "PICK UP THE SWORD!" "NEVER!!!" ------------------------------------------------------------------- A CE Wizard with the Vow of Peace. Believes in it purely because the sight of blood makes him squeamish. Claims to be allergic to pain, and often complains about anything "uncivilized". ------------------------------------------------------------------ A Elven ranger who hunts other Elves. Claims his own race is a blight upon the face of the planet and seeks to destroy all of them, one elf at a time. Pretty nifty idea when the elf goes to give a fellow elf a hello and you freak out and stab him ------------------------------------------------------------------- Homicidial Pixie Rogue who pretends to be a friendly person but in actuallity is a cannibal. She believes that by hunting humans she can end the hunger of the pixie people and claim an ample food source. It will also help boost trade because humans, unlike deer, tend to carry money. Has a whole theory about it and will try to convince humans that they should subject to being food. At epic levels, she often succeds |
| Quietus_Silivren05-11-05, 09:46 PM | A female Elven Paladin of Hanali Celanil. A hopeless romantic, she upholds love in any form (she herself is bisexual) as her highest ideal. She remains dedicated to the ways of the Paladin, but she has always been fascinated by the free-spirited nature of those less concerned with laws and codes (and might have her eye on a CG party member; gender does not matter, as stated), and has on more than one occasion found herself defending a forbidden love or pronouncing her detestation of an arranged marriage. This could become her undoing as a Paladin, seeing her commitment to the code deteriorate; or it may help her to put more heart into her work than most Paladins do, as she becomes more able to recognize the value of each life that her code commands her to protect. She is softspoken, but confident, steadfast, and dauntless. She loathes killing, but accepts that sometimes, it must be done. She also considers undead to be a vile abomination, more than most. |
| neilthrun05-11-05, 11:06 PM | Human Cleric/Ooze Master, requires his companions to subject themselves to one of his oozy touches when ever they want healing. Warlock with the tomb tainted soul feat, stabs himself in the chest with a hideous utterdark blast, healing himself in the process. |
| Liquid-Water05-12-05, 01:44 AM | the best char i ever came up with was a level 24 Warlock/Ranger/Chosen of bane/Mind Bender/Exemplar/Spy Master that ran around with a holy avenger and CLAMED ;) he was a first level pally... i had a nice bluff check of 154 that i could use to take a 10 on at any time... I had fun with the party |
| Princeoflowlight05-12-05, 04:12 PM | The Penitent Abomination: An Undead Cleric or Paladin who seeks redemption through combat. Channels positive energy (ie, Turning) both to rid the world of other Undead and as a form of self-flagellation. Could even be a Prestige Class... |
| TwistedShadow06-10-05, 10:11 PM | Here are a couple fun ones I have enjoyed playing Child Faced Killer: Young child raised from birth to be an assassin (LE) but something happened that made his teachers/masters try to kill him, He survives but has amnesia and switches alignment to a good alignment like CG. but can take levels in assassin because he already was one and is just remembering his former skills. If played right it can really be a socially disturbing character. Aasimar/teifling. Outcast wanderer who has spent time as a slave or outcast of somekind. his half feind parent was aligned with Erythnuul and his Half celestial Parent was aligned with St cuthbert. Has a duel alignment of CG and CE. so he goes all bloodlust in a fight and is generally a tortured soul since his two lineages war for influence over him. Another fun one to play. |
| Manyfist06-10-05, 11:07 PM | A cross dressing bisexual CE male Elven Barbarian. Named, Helgo the Corrupter, who protrays to be good, then kills his victim when ever they reach orgasm. ;) Elven female LG Paladin who falls in love with her NG Male Unicorn mount, she tries to deny it yet she can't. So finally she admits her feelings and she gives birth to an Half Unicorn/Half-Elf. She was so ashamed she killed her mount, and turned homosexual. She is now a Homosexual Elven Ex-Paladin/Blackguard, with a Female Nightmare mount. She now goes around slaying and drinking the blood of all Male Unicorns.  Half-Silver Dragon Male (Human) Paladin, with a LG Female Silver Dragon as his mount. ;) (Nothing like Ridding mom.) A Crazy Female Halfling Wizard who thinks she is a Warforged, and insists she needs repairs. After words she gains the half-Golem template (Iron), then tries to suduce a Male Personality Warforged, yet he doesn't understand. |
| Dogurasu_Thanatos06-10-05, 11:26 PM | One that I've played: A CG male medusa sorcerer, strong believer in the deity Boa Nagamia. All of his spells were snake-, acid-, or lightning-based. Mimicking an ally to some extent, he would go on to take the Nagamian whirler prestige class. He was first discovered as a slave to an illithid that wanted to become a lich. However, this illithid was also crazy -- his favorite foods were tea and biscuits. To keep his pet in check, the illithid would summon a succubus to rape the poor guy until, one day, the medusa petrified the summoned succubus -- and threatened to do the same to his owner. The illithid began instead to teach him magic, only to find that the power was already there. Eventually, the illithid lost him (while waiting for his tea and biscuits, no less!) and he joined an adventuring party in a quasi-WoT campaign, gaining power and prestige through his allies and his own adventures. One I am playing: A CN male human warlock who has actually made the binding with a fiend himself to gain warlock powers. He is driven mad through his adventures -- and being dragged into Devimaston (Hell) by his demonic master for... various reasons... that he won't explain -- and that gives him greater power. Now he is on the road to becoming a disciple of this 'Inspirant' demon. Ones I would like to play: A LE male human battle sorcerer that started out LG, but slowly succumbed to the lure of deadly power through blood magics of various kinds. A CG healer (any race/either gender) that is sadomasochistic. Possibilities abound, but it would need a skillful weapon for the best effect. |
