Lexarius 03-21-05, 04:43 PM	My first D&D character was a human ranger. This was on the AOL-hosted Neverwinter Nights, which was to my knowledge the first graphical MMORPG. Well, maybe not Massive, at least by today's standards. I still remember seeing the "Users Online: 500" and pressing "Play" every few moments to try and sneak in under the player cap. We're talking about a game that ran in a DOS box and was lucky to have VGA graphics. It was probably the best game that AOL had at the time. My ranger got up to about 4th level. Some nice person had given him a +3 Battleaxe to use. On the last day the server was up I killed a kobold and it dropped a set of full plate. One of the game's flaws was that you couldn't name your character. It instead used your AOL Screenname.
Artemician 03-21-05, 05:20 PM	My first played character was a Kobold sorcerer (strange, huh?) whose name was Gandalf (not that that stange, huh?). It was a kobold/half-red dragon with like 18 Str and 13 Cha, and today i wonder why I didn'y played a fighter. Another strange thing is that I was always wearing a full plate and never had to roll arcane spell failure. And i had some kind ''assassin's dagger'' that dealt like 2d4 damage plus 3d6 poison. I killed a golden gargoyle (don't ask me) with it, which angered the vampire of the party because we played resetting XP but if you killed a foe alone you gained double experience. The Arbiter of Truth 03-21-05, 05:22 PM	Ah, my first character, a druid.. Not much else I can remember about him, although his eagle animal companion WAS secretly an angel. But that was nothing compared to the squirrel which turned into a Dire bear when you werent looking. But that one belonged to Phil, the other druid in the party. Yeah, casual games rule. I went swimming randomly and found a shocking stone scimitar. He didn't have a memorable name, and I have a bad memory.
Nephlite 03-21-05, 06:23 PM	My Dm allowed me to try out a Jedi class he made (basically a fighter that could prodiuce a few jedi tricks). This was back in AD&D so I took more Exp to level. His name was Starbuck I think. He had 18 Str and 18 Int, I don't recall any other stat.(around 12's) He was a great guy, strong, brave, and semi-smart (I had trouble playing him that smart but I rolled high lol).

She was yourbasic buff and un-scuff cleric, and I'll never forget the first time she actually killed something, a rat she killed with dealing 10 damage with one heavy crossbow shot, and she enjoyed hitting graplling darkmantles with her heavy mace (the party members grappling with them weren't too thrilled). Un fortunately she met a grisly end in the wotld's largest dungeon, and did i mention she had 12 dex? Don't ask why i picked half-elf...

Rulebook 03-21-05, 07:32 PM	god... i still remember him! (this was probably 15 or 16 years ago easy) Father Raoul, Human Cleric (finished his career at level 7) He liked to hit things with his morning star, and had faith issues. i didnt get too much deeper than that, well because i was 7.

InkBlot 03-21-05, 07:55 PM	Lance Thatchpatcher the 3rd level Chaotic Neutral Halfling Ranger (ranged combat style). I didnt most of the things in the PHB section on character description, so he ended up with max height, weight, starting age, and starting gold for a Halfling Ranger. I also didnt understand what Chaotic Neutral meant, I played him much more Neutral Good. He was raised by a human druid in a remote forest. When the druid died Lance sort of enherited the forest. Lance would charge people for permission to pass through his forest. He charged extra if they wanted a guide. Either way he would follow them to ensure they didnt harm his forest. He would usually ask for food, tools or other usefull things as payment, but gold was exceptable as well. I forget how he met the rest of the party, but they probably simply hired him. The fact that it made no sense for him to leave his forest was conveniently ignored.
Ordred 03-21-05, 08:02 PM	My first character was back in 1977 using the AD&D rules. He was a half-elven Druid; true neutral by his own standards, but for some reason the DM thought he kept straying dangerously close to chaotic evil. Go figure. Probably had something to do with that troll who had really important information but was less than willing to share...for a while. Amazing how regeneration is not always an advantage. I think his personality was somewhat modeled after Elric of Melnibone, which I was reading at the time. He was a lot of fun to play - I really should convert him to 3.5 and bring him into my current campaign!
HypnoticMonk 03-21-05, 08:09 PM	back in 1979, mine was a dwarf thief named Morgan ( no I had no idea what a good dwarven name would be) the Blue & Gold Thief (my high school colors). He was memorable for dying a lot, and since our DM had a house rule that said you lost all XP gained for the level you were on whenever you died and were raised... well , he never did make 2nd level. After 2 years of trying on and off ( while having tons of success with other characters making higher level) , he "retired" , battle-scarred and highly frustrated.
Plastic Sun 03-21-05, 08:14 PM	Orville "Twitch" Smythe, Human Rogue, 2nd Edition....he was chaotic nuetral and was cursed with a paranoia complex, Twitch was a creepily skinny young man who used a punching dagger and a buckler, he earned the nickname twitch because of my constant knee-jerk responses to the things the DM said, for example Dm: You go down the darkened hallway, the rogue feels something brush against his leg Me: I swish around and run back into the light of day as fast as I can book it Twitch was born in sigil, in the Hive, his father was a dusty, his mother was a collector and he was deadly afraid of the undead, he eventually retired after being dumped into several planes including Ravenloft, Krynn, Athas (it was fun how we escaped athas...), and nearly all of the planes on the wheel...he lived out his days in a (massively well-guarded) castle in Sigil
ForcePaladin 03-21-05, 08:25 PM	Human Paladin named Rion Ignitus. He was a noble who's house and family were destroyed by a greedy necromancer who wanted thier power. (yes it is a cliche i know) Rion was saved by this slightly-less-omnipotent-than-God ranger/tons of other levels DM character who brought him to a temple of Heironius where he became a Paladin. He vowed to regain his house and let no child suffer the nightmares that he does. What am I talking about?!?!?! I'm still playing this character!!! My group likes to switch campaigns and DMs around alot, so I've got a few characters going on at once. I haven't been playing more than a year.

His alignment was Chaotic Neutral... which was basically an excuse to do anything I wanted, because I was an aggressive 15 yr old male. :P The DM was a bit younger, and the campaign was crazy. We started out at low levels, but wound up banishing Takhisis a few times, taking over Ravenloft, killing a few weak deities, and eventually ascending to godhood (where we ended the campaign). This was about 17 years ago, and we were playing under 2nd Ed. AD&D rules, with some stuff from original D&D mixed in.

He was below average intellegence, but he was tougher than all get out. WOW,That was in seconed edition some twelve years ago.
slade_caizer 03-21-05, 10:45 PM	I feel ashamed I can't recall the name of my first character, but I remember with clarity some of the zany things that happened. Bear in mind that our DM had only a couple of months of experience on us. A 3.0 half-fiend (human) sorcerer whose favorite weapon was a scythe. Why he was given a chainshirt of invisibility or macross-style magic missile, I'll never know. HOWEVER, the best part came in a collusium battle. Did I mention it was a wild magic area? :angelhide My first enemy was a doppleganger that didn't think to read my mind when I actually used the invisibility on that armor. Boy was he unhappy when I strangled him with Vampiric Touch... The female Blackguard was tough considering she randomly spell slung and ended up with a Meteor Swarm. I'd love to know how I survived, but I could've stepped on a caltrop and done myself in at that point. Oddly enough I decided to spell sling and got...Charm Person...that worked! It almost brought a tear to my eye when I offered to congratulate her on her victory with a hug. Funny she didn't notice I never dropped the scythe... Too bad her Vampire patron (husband???) was also competing....

Human, black hair, blue eyes, and probraly the funniest of any character in our group (and many have tried),it was fun playing him, he reminded me alot of Vash the Stampede from trigun, either serious or goofy, never really a fine line, he was just one or the other. It was all going good until lvl 16 (we basicly started characters off at lvl1 and went on until death back then), one of the players began DMing so Bishop had 2 DMs (I look back at that and laugh), the new DM didn't know the difference between a GOOD DM and a NICE one, the DM wanted Bishop to be someone different then I wanted him to be, so I wadded up the character sheet & threw it away (maybe not litteraly, I have no idea what happened to the character sheet but you get what I'm saying). R.I.P. Bishop, no character has ever been the same as you. :weep:

Draco9_1_1 03-21-05, 11:57 PM	I just started playing D&D at about Fall of 2004, and my first character was a Lawful Neutral Monk named Shiru Yamato. There were many things I have failed to do with that character. He always go last in battle because I roll low for initiative. He also seems to fail pretty badly on his saving throws, which was another bummer. Every attempt at executing Stunning Fist have failed. He learned to play guitar, and was generally useful for a few rare instances, but the half-dragon Samurai outperformed the rest of the party. Along with his half-elf Favored Soul cohort that charges money for her healing spells, things got awry over time.

Jell_Moo 03-22-05, 02:45 AM	My first character was a Dwarf. Just a Dwarf. Old Basic Boxed Set. That was an absolute hoot. Even though I've long lost the set, I can still remember the picture of the Magic User casting his Magic Missle spell, conjuring what appeared to be a normal arrow. I wish I could remember my Dwarf's name... I do remember that he eventually got his hands on a magic sword and at one point tried to marry an Elf. Nobody called the Cleric overpowered in those days. Not a single spell at first level. ;)
Chimaera2000 03-22-05, 05:24 AM	My very first character didn't even have a name, as far as I can recall, since I had no idea how to play D & D and was pretty much just along for the ride. :) In any case, he was a human sorceror who "happened to find the party while looking for directions to Disneyland." Nevertheless, despite my utter lack of knowledge of the game, he still managed to save the entire party by using Alchemy to create a Molotov cocktail, then landing a natural twenty on an attack roll to wipe out half of the approaching kobold swarm. (laughs) Wow, that brings back memories.....

My nameless elven wizard, or my awesome troll from the swedish version of Dnd. The wizard was a female, who I do not recall anything about. Now the troll, named Orvar (got my nick from there. duh...), was a huge hulk of a thing. He had a pet hamster (NOTE! This is before I've ever even heard of Baldur's Gate!) named Micro, who was a sorceror without powers, sorta. He met his doom at the hands of a minotaur who, erm, stared him to death. The minotaur was played by a friend, and he rolled PERFECT on the staring, so he killed Orvar. :( Micro when ballistic and tried to kill himself over and over again, though never changing the fact that Orvar was dead. Oh god, this tears up old wounds... I'm gonna go cry now. :weep:

She was a great combination of Catholic guilt and Spanish Inquisition violence.
D-Dus 03-22-05, 06:47 AM	I only started about 5-6 years ago, with 3rd edition. We actually started with the D&D starting package, and I was the Dwarven Fighter (can't be bothered to look up his name). The first character I played that I made myself was a Human Sorcerer. CAn't remember that much about him, as I was shortly thereafter drawn towards the DM-ing, which I've done for the most part (out of the 5 years D&D I've been a DM for probably 3-4 years). I've actually just finished playing a character (Human Cleric) for the first time in two years...... (changing to a Draconic Gnome Sorcerer for the next campaign :D )

I did a good job with that character, my DM was impressed since I had never touched an RPG before then. She died by taking a fireball for the team so the others could escape. Was fun. :D
Drognar 03-22-05, 10:49 AM	I started with a 3.5 dwarf Barbarian/Cleric with really high str (above 20), and low int (8 I think), wielding an urgrosh (TWF) So whenever he saw enemies, he enlarged himself(strength domain) and 'flew into a terrifying rage'. So he had about 26 to 28 str at level 4. Party members called him the tenderiser cos he tenderised the enemies. DM was always trying to work out why I was getting like +15 on my attack roll :) He was fun.

Next character I really remember was a half-orc fighter with a net and trident under AD&D; made it to about 6th level (together with a succession of pet piglets called 'Rations') before he had a nasty experience with a demon invasion and a paladin party member with a god complex. quexul 03-22-05, 08:21 PM	Red box basic set. Human cleric of Odin named Moonhill. Leader of our group (my older bro was the DM, we had a dwarf in the party named Thorin, how embarassing). We went through Keep on the Borderlands and Palace of the Silver princess. He had a low strength 9 which was taken care of with some Gauntlets of Ogre Power. We didn't convert him to AD&D with our change from Basic D&D. Now I'm DMing and have an old man NPC leader in the chuch of St. Cuthbert named Brother Edmund Munhyll Exster Aristocrat 3/Cleric 13. He has a strength of 9, and used to adventure.
johnboy069 03-22-05, 08:48 PM	I was introduced to the D&D world by my uncle. He had the original books and I loved looking through them (I was 7 or so). I started playing AD&D when I was between my freshman/sophomore year. My first character was complicated. He had 5 different personalities and 6 different classes (DM had a system for determining which personality was in control) I don't remember his name, but he died a valiant death. We were trying to find a red dragon, and the wizard persona was in control. He had a "cold" fireball ready and was seraching an alcove. Suddenly, the dragon appeared from out of nowhere (or so it seemed at the time) and the DM told me to roll for a personality change. I failed the roll and the thief persona came into control just as the dragon unleashed its fiery breath. The thief failed the saving throw and became one very crispy critter.
angryman 03-22-05, 09:43 PM	My first 3rd edition character was a paladin named Talia who actually lasted through our first year or so of playing. She got to about level 9-10 then was turned into a vampire, tried to hide it from the party, was locked in her box and had it set alight then when I escaped, was grappled by the PC barbarian while the mage cast Daylight...which killed me. (We didn't quite realise that it didn't do that!) My first character EVER (in 1995) was a Cyberpunk solo who gave arsenic laced jellybeans to people.
Alathriel 03-22-05, 09:59 PM	My first character was a Neutral Evil human rogue, with the thief kit "Fence". His name was Edmund Warrington. It was 2nd edition, and he was from Sigil. That's Planescape, for those that don't know. He had a cockney accent and was very cool and calculating. I'm surprised my DM let me play him, but I guess the concept was doable. I remember him gaining the handle and crosspiece to a magical sword, and having to find what it could do so he could fence it properly. I really would love to play him again actually :D We only played a couple sessions and it kind of fell apart.
Elven Doritos 03-22-05, 10:12 PM	My first real, long-term character was an petty-thief-turned-assassin (yes, evil party first time, blah blah...) named Horus Kirin. My DM wasn't the greatest (but that's another conversation), but the lawful evil monk and I did some damage and pulled what we could out of the storyline to make some memorable experiences. Horus had a nasty habit of holding grudges and a terrible, overpowering greedy side, but all in all, he was a help to the party more than he hindered them. Until he got killed by a DMPC fey'ri with a hat of disguise. Yes, I know they have alternate form. Apparently, my DM didn't. Man, that brings back memories....
kidman 03-22-05, 10:14 PM	my first charicter was last year . his name was smuggith a half ork barbarian who had lots of trouble with walls (who knew evil dm's made walls get critical hits) he was fun but im beyond half ork barbarians i now use ........ skave (whith two dots over the "v" for the sake of it looking cool) halfling barbarian who rides smuggith the dinosaur.

I was the only one in the group that had a 3.5 PHB at the time, and I was swept up in what I've dubbed "Legolas Fever", not realizing that D&D elves aren't capable of doing the stuff that LotR elves are. I was looking over the classes and ranger just stuck out to me as the perfect thing for making a legolas clone. Took archery style and even took two weapon fighting with short swords. Eventually retired the character at 7th level, was shooting for arcane archer. Basically he was the most cowardly character of all time. I got hit once by an orc for like 6 damage when I was 5th level and ran screaming for the hills. his name was Teltharis(which is still my Screen Name obviously) My favorite tactic though was since our party lacked a rogue I would use my 1 ranger spell per day to summon natures ally 1 and summon a monkey which was dubbed Splat, and My 1 of my Wizard spells for summon monster 1 to summon a Hawk dubbed Squish. Those were our search and disable device checks :D

legowarrior 03-22-05, 11:52 PM	My first character came out in 1998. Darius, Priest of Azuth, using a special kit, he could cast spells from the conjuration school, but never gotten any. He also could use Mage weapons, but no armour. I remember him well. He had a profiency in telling stories badly, and loved picking up rocks for his Magic Stone spell! He picked up rocks everywhere, even on paved roads, he would find some (Natural 20). The worst thing was that he kept casting different combinations of spells on water just to see what would happen. He once almost killed his friend Eman, the Greatsword welding nude warrior, who believed himself descended from HeMan, by having him drink water with a couple of weird spells cast on it. Funny. Oh and it had herbs or was it poison?
Nyferto 03-23-05, 05:39 AM	Drachar Och Demoner? Anyway - 2nd edition Human Bard named Lianna, he walked around with a Crossbow and cast magic missile and lightning Bolt. I never understood why people bothered with Fighter/Mages till higher level 3rd Edition I tried to replicate an old 2nd edition High dex and Str elven Fighter. I ended up taking SF Jump and Tumble, jumping around alot and hitting things with a longsword with Spring Attacks. The Campaign wasn't Dungeon Focused so my skills were actually of use. At Higher levels we ventured into hell (well some of them) and I refused to fly (loosing my jumping ability), hence being bull rushed into Lava. 3.5 Edition A Monk who died at around 6th level trying to out grapple a bear. 3.25 Edition (our own homebrew) A Bard, the first time i've ever bothered with one since they lost offensive spells in 3E. He could cast spells from the Healing Domain and Evocation and Abjuration Wizard Schools.

bookwurm 03-23-05, 10:22 AM	My first combat character was a Rifts power armor fighter. Jammed my gun on my first shot, been cursed ever since :weep: :weep: . My first 3rd edition was a dwarf fighter. At 5th level we ended up trapped in a cave by a couple minitaours. We went out finally and in a pitched fight beat them. Then the rest of the tribe comes around a corner. What do they see but a bloody, very angry looking dwarf, a 7 foot elf with a flaming sword(enlarged), and a half orc barbarian eating a minitou leg (yeah, he really did that). They freaked and tried to run, but the crowd of them prevented and we just walked through the crowd killing them till we got to the leader, who was promptly killed by the elf. A little far out there, but c'mon, it was our first rd edition game, we were learning the ropes.
Serraco 03-23-05, 12:51 PM	Although the campaign was kinda short lived, I enjoyed a halfling rogue named Smeagol. He picked pockets only a couple of times (he stopped when he suprisingly got 13 platinum in one, and called it "his precious"). He also had a habit of being in the air a lot (he fell in a pit once, fell through a hole in the floor and dropped 50 feet from that (almost died. Someone ELSE JUMPED after him, almost dying himself, and forced a potion of cure light wounds down his throat. Yeah), and was thrown into combat (yes. THROWN) a few times via The Quintessential Halfling's Excellent Projectile and Fastball Special feats). I think if magic was opened up a lot more (aka having a shop available that sold magic items), I would've found some way of making him even more eccentric and ballsy. Did I mention he wore a spiked helmet, goggles, and a white wolf skin cloak when he got tossed?

Anshin Mandango 11-30-05, 07:56 PM	my first RPG character was a human fighter for Advanced Heroquest (from the makers of Warhammer) way back in 1995, he started out as a knight then became a mechanic and eventually got a extending robotic hand, a fully-automatic crossbow with a never ending supply of arrows(wasn't actually his, he stole it from another character because he was tired of being shot in the back due to that character's cruddy aim), and a shapeshifting lightsaber thingy. my first D&D character was (and is, the campagin is still going on) Indelico Farendi, human soulknife who never goes anywhere with out his tindertwigs and at least 5 flasks of alchemist's fire. I've also chosen to roleplay his 8 Cha as him being racist towards elves (every other member of my party except for one is at least part elf, one of whom is a half copper dragon Sorc/Dragon Disciple Indelico's been THIS close to picking a fight with for the last 3 sessions :D .)
sagaman 11-30-05, 08:40 PM	1980. AD&D. School library. I picked a gray elf, because they lived the longest (like that matters). I named him "Graelf". I thought that was clever. The DM allowed him to be a cleric, 'though it was forbidden in those halcyon days. We started him off at 6th level, because they were about to play "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks" -- actually, a really crappy adventure to introduce a noobie to high fantasy RPG's. He had a ton of psionic powers that to this day I don't understand how to use, picked up a laser rifle, and ended up fleeing the dungeon with the M-U on some kind of hover sled or something. I considered him "broken" and started over with his son at 1st level -- yup, you guessed it, "Graelf II".
dami_capo 11-30-05, 09:44 PM	Elester, elven wizard that mysteriously changed into a human because I couldn't roleplay a Good character (in Dark Helmet's words: evil will always triumph because good is dumb!). He and a barbarian were being chased by an army of orcs and they both helped each other when one got tired. Elester couldn't go on and told the barbarian to escape. Then he used up all his spells, sat down and prayed to survive. His prayer was not answered. Why he didn't hide, we will never know. Partly because of my momentary (or permanent according to some people) stupidity, partly because he thought he would be found anyway.
Wharin 11-30-05, 10:10 PM	My first character ever was Bardo, the Centaur Paladin. That was in '93 i think. While technically not possible in 2nd ed. my DM allowed it. His weapon of choice was a lance. The most memorable thing I did with him was when an enemy Wizard cast a shielding spell on himself that automatically negated the next attack and then fizzled (probably a made up spell, but whatever). Apparantly my character was allowed to know this. Anyway, being all smart, I shot a x-bow bolt at him, and then charged him with the lance, thus impaling him 9 ways to Sunday. Ah, those were the days.

I played an Elven Wizard(because my Sisters and my friend were playing a Fighter, Rogue, and Cleric, respectively, so we needed to round out the roster) named... Stellos something, I believe... My sisters soon grew bored with this and gave up, leaving me and my friend to play for a while, till he moved in ... 88 or 89... After that, I played around on the AD&D computer games (Pools of Radience, etc) till 3rd edition came out. First 3rd Edition char was Dannak Wulfgard, I think... maybe Wulfrick... Dwarven Wizard/Rogue...
Balkazar 11-30-05, 11:31 PM	My first DND character was back in around the year 1990, I think it was, Balkazar, YEAH! same as my name, it became my nick name after that :) Balkazar was a half elf ranger, but if I made him 3rd ed compatible he would probly be a druid too lol, he worshipped Meilikki, Balkazar was raised in a forest, but he hung around the human settlement that was in the area, then he got recruited and thrown in jail, after that he got out of the army later then his unit cuz he tried to sell blackmarket items to open market person, and ended up jailed. Now we dont play that campaign but hes probly with his god right now raising a child or being a celestrial on some higher plane of existence or something :)

First Not of D&D char was a Technition named Pug who rigged a Jeep YJ with a remote and placed 6 blocks of C4 into it and ran it into a warehouse that was made for producing speed. (forgot, conviently that the DMs fav NPC was hiding in a dumpster just outside the warehouse).(can't remeber game). First 3.5 char was a dwarven Fighter/Defender who dies by red dragon fire due to an expired resistance buff lol(by one round)his name was Valok Freybeard was lawful good and hated rats/vermin of all sorts.

Zepherin 12-01-05, 02:10 AM	My first real character (not including basic set) Was a human ranger named Tarok that i played last year. In the higher levels he got a monitor lizard that sometimes appeared to be smarter than himself. I still remember the scene where me and the partys druid entered a tunnel and it turned out to be gassed. The druid collapsed on the floor and as a last ditch effort i ignited the gas with my flint & stone. It dealt a lot of damage but i survived (though i didnt regain consciousness until half an hour later.) The lizard stayed outside during the whole scene, of course ;)

He was a really nice guy but talked like cold tough-guy just waiting for you to give him a reason to roast ya. Physical Strength of 22 Next was an AD&D fighter specialized in darts. Raphael Prancibald Elenchus Regimore Aruifax IV He was an ignorant snobby young nobleman who ended up leading a team of balk talking riffraff on skirmishing expeditions in to "The Darken-wood". It was routine for us be be ambushed because I insisted on building a fire at night because I was cold or because a scout from an ogre tribe smelled my perfume (that I spritzed on every time I came up with a cleave counter insult to a party member). Never have there been so many inter party fistfights! with a constitution of 18 and some good HD rolling that 5'2 prettyboy hald his own pretty good.

But thanksfully to that game I am a D&D-fan now... And my first D&D character (who is still alive, because we are playing through the Internet and that is way longer than in a real life) is a Warforged Juggernaut called Blade of the Lord. He is a spy of Lord of the Blades in the outer, non-Mournland world. And as all the strange things (which are of interest for the Lord) tend to happen with strange bands of adventuring folk, he walks the world, offering his service as a bodyguard.
Orcy The Green Wonder 12-01-05, 02:46 PM	Orcy's first character was Orcy himself. Ah, how he remembers the DM telling him that because he was new he should play a half orc fighter. Since Orcy is a big fan of Orcs... he had no argument there. Poor Orcy had a corpse fall on him from a crows nest while shooting down a hiding archer. He was crushed by a falling purple worm corpse, he almost had a celing fall on top of his head... he was hit by a sigil of death and dropped to -9 HP... Poor Orcy. To this day he still says the DM just wanted to kill him because he was an old friend. Still had some good times with the ol Orcster. His original name was Kabel, then he took on the title of Orcy the Green Wonder in an arena where he didn't trust to give a real name. Since then Orcy has been a constant NPC and has risen to almost godly status as a ruler of a kingdom and as the leader of his own Knights. Orcy even developed a backstory as he went along, more and more filling in and such. Hes come a long way from shredding matresses hoping for a 'treasure spawn' in that first game. Erm... Orcy's friend told him it was like some other RPGs... break things, get stuff. Or search things, get stuff.
Toxaur 12-01-05, 02:57 PM	my 1st character in pen/paper/dice D&D was this year. Ended at level 9 Minotaur Fighter (so that's 8 levels of mino and 1 level of fighter). He was gruff, spoke broken english in a deep resonating voice. He came from a mountain tribe where he had been exiled. He had challenged his father, the chieftain, instead of one of the other elders for his coming-of-age duel, and at a much younger age than normal. But, being the cheiftain's son, the chieftain just banished him instead, until he can prove himself. His name was Toxaur, meaning "poisoned one" among the minotaur tribe. As an infant, he was stung by an abnormal scorpion, convulsing and going into a coma for a time, but upon awaking, turned out just fine... except with vivid green eyes and a mild poison in his blood and saliva. He aquired a cloak of minor displacement, with a twist... when he would crit, it would wrap around the enemy and absorb it. In the grand finale of that game, after 2 months without a single crit... after missing 4x in a row, he critted on the big boss NPC that nobody could seem to hit. The boss was sucked up into the cloak and the cloak got a mind of it's own and flew around the room and out of sight. Now that was a great game! lol

Fanged Fremont 12-01-05, 03:22 PM	Chigriksichi something something something. Grick for short. 2nd Ed Thrikreen Ranger. Favored eating his fallen enemies. Only played him for two sessions before the group died out. His shining moment was when he spotted tracks in a dungeons and decided they were troglodytes and suggested the party shape changer to turn into one and and knock on a nearby door where the tracks lead. Turns out they were halfling tracks and immediately attacked. 'bout killed the two meatshields, one's leg was nearly blown off by a critical hit from a sling. Grick jumped in over the peck's heads and bites one's arm off while slashing into two others, and then eats the disarmed one alive.

He was originaly the main character in a MTG short story i was Writing, but when I was introduced to D&D, my first task was to convert him into a character. Yep. my first character's race was one i designed myself. (+2 str, +2 dex, +2 wis, -2 cha, 1d4 claw, id6 bite. 1d8 talon, hunting skill bonuses, and Pounce. 1 animal HD and LA +1). that was about...two years ago, and he still alive and disembowling. Level 5 barbarian, level 4 horizon walker. man, its fun having pounce and 5 natural attacks. Multiattack at first level...good times. Got to insult people by calling them monkeys, got to eat after every fight, hell, kept getting hit with charm animal, hold animal, ect. very fun.
ziii4 12-01-05, 04:02 PM	I guess my FIRST character was a pre-made third level paladin in a little introductory 2nd edition game. I loved the idea of playing a brave and just knight and kinda thought of him as a jedi in shining armor. However, things turned disasterous when he was, adventure after adventure, terrorized and tomented by the chaotic neutral halfling fighter/thief (not rougue) who had a highter strength score than my paladin. It ended ugly when my paladin died in a battle against two ogres to save the little trouble maker, as he was just that nice a guy, and that halfling bastard drank the potion of resurrection that the DM had mercifully placed in the treasure hord to get my noble paladin back in the game. My first character that i actually rolled up and played a lot was a half-elf fighter with the barbarian kit from the "complete fighter's handbook." (remember that?) This was when barbarians could rage at any encounter, but it could take up to 10 rounds to actually achieve said rage, and usually did at low levels, as you needed to make a save versus... i think death magic (?) in order to go nuts and fight like a wild man. Elron the babarian traveled in the woods killing spiders with his uncle, an elven ranger, and a dwarf fighter who the two had stumbled upon somehow. The three met their end being cooked alive in the stew cauldron of some foul creatures .(can't remember what kind) Oh i miss those 2nd grade days of adventure!

First character to actually get play-time was an elf from the old D&D series. (Somewhere, I've got three different colors of rulebooks for those boxes. I can only remember red and blue, though, not what the other one was.) The elf was called something corny like Mystica or something. Since this was almost 30 years ago, I don't really remember. He ended up dying in the adventure that was included in the box set.

Driven 12-02-05, 01:23 AM	First RPG type char was on a MUD called Materia Magica... Involved playing a Half-Giant Barbarian that made liberal use of the Dream command while asleep. My first D&D char however, was named Jareth Von Mortislic. Half human/Half Celestial Paladin. Was the first game for a few of us, and the DM decided to be quite generous. He used a Scythe and all. Now... He is used as a villian in one of my own campaigns.
hmk17 12-02-05, 02:25 AM	Mine was Aiethos the Slayer. He was a Lawful Evil, Human Fighter. Pretty good with a sword, but a small problem... he was insane. He worshipped gnomes, believing they were children of the gods. He dedicated every attack to the two gnomes in our party. Not so sadly, he died @ level 3. During The World's Largest Dungeon, he saw a sign near a shimmering field that read "Those with faith may enter, those without will perish." After the hearty prayer of "The power of the gnomes will grant me passage.", he was disintegrated.

This was back in the days of 2nd edition, just about two years before the original release of Planescape. Ravonus was an Obsidian Golem Wizard of 15th level. Str 22 Dex 19 Con 24 Int 25 Wis 25 Cha 20 (yes, in second edition) Personal ownership of 7 artifacts. Familliar- a demigod cat named Guo who tried to keep Ravonus in check. The only thing that was cool was Guo- I think I'll go stat him up somewhere... as a demigod dedicated to the nerfing of munchkins everywhere.

I've been playing D&D for around 12 years now, I started when I was 12 years old after graduating from Hero Quest, and have been an avid gamer ever since. I was actually introduced to the game much earlier than that because my dad and two of my uncles would get together every week or two to play, and I was absolutely fascinated by what they were doing, even though I had very little idea what that was. I remember that I loved the maps, their character drawings, and all the really cool dice! I used to sit down with my dad as he would meticulously work on his next adventure, and I helped by "designing" several monsters for my him to use in the next game by drawing pretty poor pictures and telling him what the monsters would do in battle, "This one spins around like a top, shooting fire out of its mouth, and if it gets hit it explodes!" The best part is that he actually would use them - and they would terrify my uncles; most were actually pretty well designed. I think the fact that he would actually use what I made for him coupled with the fact that it was fun time to spend with him (after all, we were sitting down drawing together - dad designing dungeons and me making monsters) is what eventually drew me to the game, and why I quickly became a DM. (Now that I think about it, I started as a DM for my friend, Mitch.) Amazingly, I can still remember my first character from his first session to his last (which, sadly, was only two sessions long.) Sardaxle Juris was an elven male psionicist who ended up critically failing a power check and kinetic forced himself in the face, killing him. He was supposed to be the bodyguard for Mitch's character, an overzlealous elven prince. Incredibly, I still love psionics to this day, even though they screwed over my first character something awful. Ah, 2nd edition psionics, whoever said you were broken? When you can disintigrate yourself by accident, I'd say that's a pretty balanced system. :P

Silverthumb128 12-02-05, 08:10 PM	Mine was a Dwarf Barbarian in 2nd edition named Sargon. He was very no-nonsense, very straight to the point. His clan was destroyed by an orc raiding party, unbeknownst to him until he had returned from getting water from a river not too far from the clan grounds. Only a child, he escaped to the wilderness, learning to fend for himself. He was easily one of my toughest characters I've made. It was from Sargon that I learned the joys of rolling a natural 17(which was put towards strength) and a 15(put towards constitution, and boosted from being a dwarf). 2 DMs, 4 campaigns, and he was never once brought down even to half HP after attaining 2nd level. :D

But I roleplayed him with low Wisdom though it was 10. He was very fun. This was back in AD &D. Basically I was a Fighter, but later acquired talent to lift small rocks wth my mind and throw other small objects.

That game was a blast she was very very blonde and when she ran out of spells she would take out her lightning dagger and try to melee. Didn't help much lol. One of the really disty moments she had she and 1 other party members went into a dark church. She wanted light so she lit all 666 black candles......oops :embarrass . some how they made it out alive after fighting a some evil giant thing can't rember what it was. That game was great

The DM turned it into a playable race, but I was the only one who ever tried to play one. It had serious alignment issues when compared to the rest of its society, so it went out on adventures and was ultimately killed at level 3. Hmm... makes me want to try that again :D

jecht 12-04-05, 12:34 AM	i played a dwarf paladin in 3.5 i was convinced that all mages guilds were full of vampires and necromancers so i chunked an alchemist fire at the first one i saw and the guild master turned out to be the quest giver and the vlian, but i got tired of being lawfulgood and killed him off to become a gnome fighter and always hit on the halfing cleric npc, i always failed my charisma check
MarduktheDestroyer 12-14-05, 10:07 PM	ahh yes gorak and jerkin, my first ever character just happened to be an ettin. oh god, that group was a terrible set of powergamers for the most part, since i had NO ECL. then i got 1 level in fighter and they were like "Take two mercurial greatswords!" which did 2d8 damage x4 crit in 3.0.. but we had fun it learned me to identify gross power gamers. i mean powers cool, but these guys were... well yeah.

I think made a human Wizard named Jovknee, he had gone up to level 22 before we quit gaming. On the last day of game the DM put up us against deamons single handedly. I had to go against a Mariylith (I think I got that right) human female torso, snake tail and 6 freakin arms with magical weapons in each of them (some even vorpal), worst part was the 70% magic resistance. hmmmmm I remember the DM was shocked when I died in the second round, due to only having 42 hp's. He was kindly resurrected, lol.

Dionon 12-15-05, 10:19 AM	Let's see... for 1st Edition, my First Character was a CN Human Mage that died in the first ten minutes of the campaign because he mistakenly cast sleep on a group of skeletons :dancin: :ayyyy!: I don't remember my FIRST second edition character, but the one I remember was Dor Gruush, who was a 7'9" Human Fighter who UBER-Specialized with a pair of Katars. Let's just say he was a death machine... :cloud9: I loved that character, the DM had us start out at 8th level (in second edition mind you....) My jaw dropped, but I did it anyway, and basically we went on a quest through a Necropolis. The only thing that hurt me was my freakin Ranger teammate who kept critically missing whille shooting into combat, and the DM always made it hit me... After I found a Ring of Regeneration, it was even more fun, except the DM was an arsehole and decided to have a Deathknight use a Lv 20 Fireball on me, and then put me up against 8 elder Fire Elementals... He lived through it, with like 1 HP, And managed to kill more than his fair share (like all of them...) and then managed to take down the Lv 14 Evil Cleric of Slaughter that was igniting everything. Oh yeah, I got to Polymorph into a Gold Dragon to counter a Summon Swarm with my ... dun dun dun.... Amazing Wing Attacks!! (The DM really REALLY didn't know what he was doing, and I SO took advantage of that.. I think my THAC0 was an 8... maybe a 6 by the time I stopped playing, we never advanced in level btw....) As for Third Edition, my first character was Melkin Nebin Vandeck, a Neutral Good Gnome Wizard. In the first night, he got his arse kicked by a group of Dire Rats, had his Spell Book stolen, and was captured by the BBEG along with the rest of the party, but I got a spiffy robe of Spell Resistance at the end of it so I was happy :D

He was alevel 49 dwarf fighter without any magical equipment save for one +1 sword of dragon slaying and a ring of water walking. He lost the sword after cutting a rust ooze with it. Was incinerated by a friend's fireball. stepped on by a stone golem, fell into a pit of acid while the ring of water walking was on, drowned in a mega-giant's inkwell, smashed by said giant', eaten by were-rats, dived bombed some sort of aqua hydra AND GIBBED IT! , grew to an impossible size to smash a beholder, hit the beholder with a pillar, went head to head with Death, jumped over a stream of lava, tried to wrestle a demon because his non-magical sword was useless, magically aquired a magic sword of demon slaying and slew said demon, recklessly attacked a zillion demon imps, and got a big pile of treasure from a wish from a diety. I think i was 10.
Chipper173 12-15-05, 07:38 PM	Azel Cane the elf ranger. Yeah, stereotypic, but he got fleshed out later after I got around all of the fumbling around with roleplaying and learning the rules. He was a two-weapon figher who hated orcs (Man, how stereotypic was he?!). Eventually his dark secret was revealed in a dramatic scene explaining his tragic past that was really cool. Eventually he got a cool falchion. He even had a bumbling sidekick plus an elf sorceress hottie groupie. He was the kind of guy you'd make a summer adventure flick about. I remade him for 3.5 and bring him out with my friends when they ask for me to play him, but my favorite character will always be Durander the half-elf bard/rogue who became a demigod under Fharlaughn.

Raenestro 12-16-05, 03:17 PM	It was in 1982, so I don't recall much. Memory gets fuzzy with age and all that.... It was a Basic D&D character, as in the box with the horrible Errol Otis artwork (I still have the dice that came in it, the d20 is perfectly round now). I'm pretty sure it was and Elf (races and classes weren't seperate things in Basic), but it may have been a Dwarf. Whatever it was, I know it got turned into goo by green slime in the very first game.

UTHER THE LIGHTBRINGER!!! human paladin and destroyer of evil (not the most inventive name but hey he was and still is my favarite character in any fantasy based world) when i first began play at first level i was wielding a greatsword and large steel shield at the same time and casting spells (i didn't know i couldnt cast a first level spell at first level lol) ah those were the good old days i learned the rules in a couple sessions when the group caught me and i learned the real rules we played him up to 20th level and his exploits are still daydreamed up to today 5 years later :) :weep: :)
vankike 12-16-05, 08:41 PM	Nelbin "smokey" Renfizilestick a CG gnome sorcerer in 3rd edition I only played him for one session but none the less. he was shot out of a catapult, almost put in jail after hitting a clock tower because he was shot out of said catapult, lost his familiar it was a tiny viper that crawled under a door, and finally earned the nickname of smokey because I used produce flame and set peoples boots on fire when they wouldn't listen to me.

It was fun blasting everything with magic missiles + fireballs and doing some training outside of the actual campaign ( i gained 5 levels this way). The rest of my party was a paladin, fighter and a rogue that was wielding a scythe in one hand and a shield in the other kicking ---! Sadly they all died (when I was the dm for the first couple of times). The rogue was killed by the same player's new character, the paladin got mobbed to death by a Gargantuan Umbrella, the fighter drowned in a gelatinous cube and my wizard vanished shortly after their deaths.
Neptunehero 12-16-05, 09:16 PM	My first character? Our DM made a mistake, and allowed a pack of newbs (including myself) to experiment with unusual races. Mine was a leprechaun rogue, essentially treated as a halfling with a few odd SLAs and luck bonuses. His name was Killy McBlood, and he perished when another horiffically unbalanced character plane-shifted us into the evil plain of Carnies and ferris wheels. None of us were mature enough to play the game yet, I swear.

He quested to get a plant that grew in the underdark only, because we needed it to cure a tree of life in an elven haven. He was transformed into a drow, to get the plant unnoticed. But we didn't even get to the underdark. First, a group of insane dwarves (almost died that time), then bugbears, then a couple of elven rangers, and at last----> a great red wyrm awaken by mistake... (my fault, tripped over something =(((( ). Nevermind, I loved him a lot... and i steel feel like crying... (/me throws himself on the ground and cries like hell, kicking and screaming....)
Zephyrus/Sonet 12-18-05, 03:29 PM	A Warforged Fighter named Flail. Used a Greatsword. I liked him because he was just the most simplistic thing to play. Don't talk, others can do it for you. Just let them point you in a direction and go smash anything in the direction. Can't use your sword? Just punch them. Don't stop fighting until they tell you to, don't start fighting until they tell you too. Probably would have gone on playing him for awhile if my DM wasn't prone to make up a new campaign for people to play every other day :rolleyes: The first one that actually got somewhere was the overreacting Changeling Sorceress Sachiel. She was fun, though I think everybody else was annoyed by her, seeing as she yelled alot and was very scary :evillaugh
pilum450 12-19-05, 08:09 PM	My first character was 2nd ed rule human ranger created during the early 80's. I reached lvl 9 doing dungeon crawls and running through modules that came out at the time. He meet a temporary end for awhile in the module, "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks". The DM made a few modifications to teh module and included a mechanoid from "Mechanoid Invasions" into the module. It was caught up in a stasis field that went out when some party member pushed a flashing button. It came alive and preceeded to make me dance with its blasters. Needless to say I was no Gregory Hines and I was made into toast... Some six months later, after a hiatus to Runequest, a friend managed to get a wish and wished my character back and off we went till I went to college.
HorgeshII 12-20-05, 04:34 AM	Ah, sweet nostalgia. ;) My first rpg character (some point in the mid-90s) was played for one session in a prototype-homebrew rules system. The DM didn't quite have his combat system balanced, so, on the night I showed up, he decided to hold a gladiatorial tournament to flesh it out. I chose to roll a human fighter. Somehow, knowing almost nothing about the rules, I managed to break the "called shot" system. I won every one of my matches by decapitation (the fights were NOT supposed to be to the death :rolleyes: ), finally capping-off (no pun intended) my streak by beheading a dear friend of one of the player characters. This guy's character was, apparently, someone very important in the world, with "very important person" level armor and weapons... yeah, he ended my reign pretty quickly. That was my one and only time playing that game. Looking back, I was really, really stupid. Chalk it up to youth, I suppose. Oh well, thinking of it still makes me laugh. As far as D&D goes, my first character (2nd Edition) was a neutral evil drow rogue: Calimar, secondboy of house Aleval(spelling?). Basiclly, Calimar discovered that his uncle was plotting to kill him. If I remember correctly, he killed his uncle and fled the city, eventually finding his way to the surface. In retrospect, he probably had no reason at all to flee (don't drow reward that type of behavior?), but some device was needed to introduce him to the party. He had lots of adventures and eventually retired at level 14, guildmaster of the Daggerdale chapter of the Nightmasks. He was fun to play. It's funny; I had no problem playing his alignment to the hilt back then, but now I detest the idea of playing evil in a non-evil party.
Wellby the Fountain 12-20-05, 05:41 PM	the first game i played was AD&D, and i was playing a female gnomish rogue. i remember being in awe that i had all kinds of skills to use... the first thing i remember asking was "whats a rogue?" so when i found it to be a thief, i started picking everythings pocket and stealing from shop keepers. first party combat encounter we were supposed to be protecting some cattle from some predetory "something", and being a gnome i spotted something that night with my infravision moving around the herd. loving that i could move silently, i stalked up to it, and when i found that it was feasting on a recently deciesed bovine, drew my hand ax and rolled... 1. "roll again for fumble" says the dm. ok, ..... 1 again. "uh oh, roll again and pray you roll high" ...... 1 again. laughter burst out at the table and looks of awe. the DM says " ok, one more time" and believe it or not, i roll another 1. exasperations of "oh my god" and "wow, ill never see this again in a million years". roll again. 2!! " well, you draw back your ax to hurl and heave it foward.... but it seems to get suddenly light as you follow through..." the DM says. "then you hear some branches breaking in the trees above, and as you look up to see what is happening, your ax head that came loose when you tried to hurl it at the beast comes crashing down through the last of the branches and splits your skull down to your neck. when your friends find you it is a puzzleing sight" ive been a fan of RPG's ever since.
duckthatquacks 12-20-05, 10:07 PM	My first character was in 3rd ed. He was Sherman, a dim-witted human paladin on a self-appointed quest to eradicate all evil from existence. He kept score with evil and flew around on a giant duck, wielding such mighty weapons as the Pickaxe of Justice, the Makeshift Spear of Retribution, and the Oversized Sling of Vengeance (none of which was actually magical or anything; in fact, in ten levels his only magic item was a +1 large steel shield). Despite his handicaps, Sherman's skill in battle and his often unorthodox tactics led him to slaughter all that opposed him (including a level 17 wizard...when he was level 9). My DM for that campaign moved away, so there was no closure. He's still out there, racking up points in the War on Evil. I loved that character.

His name was Tanis <something> (but in fairness to me, this was a few years *before* Dragonlance) back in about 1982. He died more or less instantly.
Finch 12-24-05, 12:30 AM	My first was some nameless fighter-type from late 80s, early 90s. He was killed some 20 minutes into the game. The most memorable character I've ever played is Professor Frink Snundleduck, Gnomish sorcerer and professor of Alchemy at Hogwart's (Yes, we like pop culture references in our games). He's semi-retired or as he puts it, "Lying low until the heat dies down." Some fun facts about Frink: Marriages: 4 Property damage accounted for: 322,560 gp Golems "rassled": 18 Golems beaten: 0 Favorite outfit: X-ray goggles, pirate hat, kilt ("Pants are for Humans and suckers!") Gods flirted with: 2 He's largely retired because he's into the epic levels now and my group generally doesn't like playing at that level. Frink has accompanied the party on an adventure or two and generally serves as a tiny artillery piece. He was particularly decisive in the victory against the Orcish war machine. Right now I'm plaing a slightly-rule bending RS of Pelor/Sacred Exorcist. He's fun, but Prof. Snundleduck is forever in my heart.

Indeed created to the image of Neo-seen-in-some-movie-I-can-not-say-wich-because-i-would-be-kicked. He had a flying invisible mount, to fly indeed. He had a "magic comunication device" wich made him the first d&d character able to talk to the DM, asking for some divine intervantioning. DM: You start to fight two shadowdancers, they hide in plain sight and heal instantly. Neo-one: I need Firepower, some bows, a lot of bows. DM: one shadowdancers stabs you in the back,... Neo-one: dodge this: a critical hit+28 (48) and strikes with two halberds. And other stolen fights. That was like 5 months ago, we copied the movies, cut out all the talking, mumbling and other mambo-jambo, and left only the fighting,... wich gave us an average of 5000 xp per day,... Aah, the memories....

He gives me the book - I look through. Dwarf I say, they are the toughest right? Fighter of course.... Now on to weapon selection, The Hobbit being the only Fantasy Novel I had ever read at this point I look at the choices and read that the heavy Lance :smirk: does the most damage on a charge. I think wow I will want to charge into battle so Ill take that and a battle axe just in case. :fight!: LOL needless to say we played the game that way for some time B4 one of my friends :teach: brings up that the lance is about 12' long and only useful from horseback. :surrender: Well I had my :OMG! 20th reunion :pint: this summer and we all had a laugh. Of the group of 6 who played together only 2 still play. Oh well :behold: real life :whatsthis can be a bummer sometimes.
Kozeljnik 12-25-05, 03:21 PM	Samhain, the half-orc domainless (since my DM "didn't have time" to explain how those worked) cleric of Ehlonna. also, my stats were beyond crap. i remember that we got attacked by twenty naked dancing kickboxers led by some dude in armor five minutes into the first session. i gained 3 levels after that fight :rolleyes: Samhain was quickly forgotten when i made Finian The Quick (whom i consider my REAL first character), a gnome bard who went on to become the greatest adventurer the realms had ever known...according to his bestselling autobiography All The **** That Happened To Me While Adventuring He lived by the saying "Cowards Live Longer", until he became a demon-possessed chaotic evil character (we somehow managed to step into the evil sidequest :hoppingma ) Finian died shortly afterwards (got diced by a Blade Barrier), and his soul was banished to the nine hells. he survived surprisingly long for being my first "real" character (around 3-4 months perhaps. 1-2 sessions/week, sometimes more)

I just decided what I wanted to do, and the DM told me what to roll. He was a Human fighter with 18 strength. I don't remember much about him other than that natural 18, the first D&D roll I ever made. The game only went a couple of weeks before the summer was over, and we all got split up.

I had no idea about how deadly a fight with an adult green dragon could be and I found out in problaby 3 rounds or so, lol. But my first memorable char. was an orc fighter/chef (yes he had a profession) named Gork. Above average physical stats but dumber than the meat cleaver he used as a weapon. And he is still around, now retired from adventuring at lvl 17 and cooking his arse off for my clanmaster. Ahhh the memories..........

I had no idea how to play, but the DM was shall we say biased towards me, so she got great stats and could get away with just about anything. I remember the party rogue killing and looting some commoners while everyone was distracted during a tavern brawl. He ran outside and scrambled onto the roof to hide, so my ranger ran upstairs and burst through the thatch roof, wacked him with the flat side of my hand axe, and had him return the money to the families of the deceased. Ah... so much silly fun. It was a 9 person party: two rangers, one cleric, one sorceror, one wizard, two bards, one monk, and the rogue. Imagine the time it took to get through a round. :eek:

Reighnhell 12-26-05, 11:46 PM	Been playing rpg's since around 1988. got started in the old Marvel superheroes RPG ( first character was Electroburn,with fire and lightning powers). Played a whole lot of characters in a whole lot of systems ( too many to name right now). My first character in D&D was during the AD&D era. It was a ravenloft game and I played a human ranger named Ludwig the Mad. His backstory was he was the unfortunately deranged son of a noble household who was institutionalized for his own good. One night, the asylum mysteriously caught fire and burned to the ground. Ludwig escaped into the night and learned his ranger skills while living in the wilderness. Also had the idea that his older brother (a Paladin no less) was searching the country side for his lost, insane brother in order to bring him home. He stumbled into adventures by virtue of his psychosis more than any other reason. The game was short lived, but I always liked the story set up for that character, full of juicy hooks for the GM to play with.

He died at level 3 when i lost his sheet and all records of him other than memory, His first kill was a zombie that i luckily turned at max turning damage but the barbarian already killed it again.

Back then no one in my group knew how to play, though everyone acted like they did (We rolled d20s for ability scores; I had a 19 in intelligence and a 4 in strength) He got stuck in a pit with a snake, and the only way out was blocked by my companions who ruled that I could not move through their squares
JTalbain 12-27-05, 06:58 PM	My first character was a Human Thief in 2nd edition. I remember having lots of fun in theory with the character, but got shafted by the DM caving in to the demands of the other players (I was levelling too fast :D ). I was the only person in the party without a 16 in my primary stat (for those who don't remember, a 16 in your character's primary stat gave a 10% bonus to experience), and we were playing in 2.9 I think, the one with kits, flaws and all that. Human Thief in 2nd ed with a 15 Dexterity is far from an optimal build for 2nd ed, and I had a hard time doing anything in the party of 2 Half-Dragon Fighters, a Cleric, a Fighter/Mage/Thief, and a Psionicist (broken in 2nd ed. for newer players ;) ). My character was an excellent pickpocket, which didn't really matter at all given that the DM was a hack-and-slash style DM (and I later found out he lied about my pickpocket rolls, which he insisted on rolling in secret, telling me I had failed so I would stop "trying to derail his game"), and I took the Wild Talent ability. My character was lost about 3 times (on the computer character creation program), but the final version of him ended up with the very cool WT Animate Shadow. I thought it was nifty anyway. Fun moments with this character include: Escaping naked with the rest of the party from a dungeon (how the game started), a quarter mile run after an animated scarecrow culminating in my first attack roll ever (a nat 1, followed by a nat 20 for severity. The DM was nice and ruled that I impaled my foot to the ground with my short sword and was kicked in the head by the scarecrow, knocking me unconscious. :embarrass ), and the time I stupidly failed to put together that the trap doors directly over the archer slits on the castle wall might have *gasp* ARCHERS beneath them!! :rolleyes: ( I said "Sorry, wrong room." and closed the door.) It was all good fun until I had the double whammy of the DM telling me that I would not in fact be gaining 2 and a half levels in one game for my clever use of lots of Thief skills and my Wild Talent, and then my friend telling me about the DM lying about my pickpocket rolls. :weep: I didn't play with that DM after that...
Realms of Chaos 12-27-05, 08:19 PM	I have no deep attachment to my first character, who's name is lost to time. the campaign was fairly shortlived. We took out some kobolds, during which time one of our party members was, um..., accepted. later on we teleported to a new world, was nearly killed by gargoyles before DM made an IAGG (incredibly awesome good guy) to save us. Then, we were nearly captured by ettercaps, we found a tree that had an oracle that did nothing, we fought (same) gargoyles with our beefstick blinded by a cursed item, fell off a cliff right afterwards with me dead and the beefstick unconscious, barely made our way to a town. took out some zombies in a crypt. Went into a forest where we fought off a zombie dragon, went back to the town, fighting an amorphous blob that trapped us in our worst fears on the way. we were then riding to an evil crypt when my horse, that had me (a dwarven cleric) and the beefstick fell through the ground into the crypt (I weighed alot and we were the last in line. No one else noticed :weep: ). We fought off a skeleton that then formed the living form of the undead dragon from earlier and thats about when it ended. By the way, we fought some quadripedal creatures with tentacles that we lovingly dubbed "fluffy". DM's wild creation.

This was before I knew the game very well. The first character I made after reading the Player's Handbook was a Human Fighter. Power Attack, Cleave and Toughness. We played 2 sessions before we were wiped out by a huge monkey of some sort. It's been a few years, so I don't remember. :D

My first real character (as in one that actually saw some game time) was an AD&D Rogue named Bob. He was somewhat on the evil side of things, with a nasty sense of humour and a fascination with magical toys which caused him no end of grief. He also had a fairly strong rivalry with the other evil rogue in the party, who loved to poison things. They managed to create a great deal of chaos between them. The best would have to be the time he set up a trade in large blue gemstones (also known as Blue Dragon Eggs) in the capital of the human realm, then let the dragons know where their babies had been taken. :D

DracoDraconis 12-28-05, 10:50 PM	i'm playing through my first game now. my character started as a wood elf ranger, is now a ranger/druid. e has stupidly high dex and a cool owl companion called twit. also in the party is an insane battle crzed fighter barbarian, a power hungry wizard/dragon dsciple (never mess with powerful magic items, you may grow wings) and an azurian fighter. there are others, and at a total of 8 party members, we only get places by arguing.
Quandi 12-29-05, 02:17 AM	Oh man i feel so inexperienced, ive only been playing for a few months (abliet that i did play a Werewolf the Apocalypse campaign for a year before our DM moved to Japan, man i loved my character big bruiser with the IQ of a rock and a hell of a big gun :D ) But ive been in 3 games, the first guy i made is still alive and kicking thxs actually to his class/race which is Halfling Monk, ornry little bastard who'll jump kick you in the teeth, i love this guy, good stats, good rolls (hasnt be touched for over 3 sessions) and hes got profession:brewer ! (drunken master anybody) and well im excited to see what the future holds cause my DMs got a crazy story for my guy :cool:

He had awsome stats (around 14-16) and was the slyist elf you'll ever meet. unfortunatly, my freind( and fellow campainer) was my only link to a dnd game at the time and the other members wanted to quit, Stupid huh. well I was addicted so I found some of my friends and started playing. Only we had the AD&D books. it was fun. My first AD&D character was a Drow assasin. Ever since I read my first Drizzt book I have been adicted to the Drow.And Entreri has inspired my AD&D character, the assasin. A fusion of Drizzt and Entreri would be unstopable, and that's my logic for my second character.
Lumbo_Bouldermaul 12-29-05, 11:10 AM	Well, since I am new to the boards, this seems like a great place to make my first post. I can't really recall my first PC was since I was about 8 and we only had one seesion in which my uncle, who was DMing, let my little brother and I play out of courtesy to my parents. I do remember that it was under 2E rules and my brother fumbled and decapitated me during the first encounter with some goblins. I never really played DnD again until I was a senior in high school when I had become enamored with Tasslehoff Burrfoot through the Dragonlance novels, so of course I had to play a kender. The game group dissolved when he "aquired" the party tank's magic swords one night and a group of ogres wiped us because the warrrior didn't have his weapons. I thought they looked pretty was the only explanationa kender could give and that group never played again.

WhiteRaven810 12-29-05, 05:21 PM	An athiest scimitar, sling, and quarterstaff weilding Human Druid named Elrag who could not connect a blow to save the multiverse, accompied by his wolf companion Odra. He's only been through two sessions, and was born Monday night/EARLY Tuesday morning. Elrag only counts if you don't factor Ebrek and Lidda from D&D Basic, which I learned to play on.
TailsofElements 12-30-05, 12:28 AM	My first character was a rouge named Caji who got completely screwed up. Rouge till 5 then to my ninja class i made for a lvl then to a black mage class i made for 10 XD
RhysG 12-30-05, 01:46 AM	So I'm the only one here the started with Old DnD !?! coom the got to be more old schoolers here! Don't feel bad . . . my first character was a sea spirit folk wu jen from original AD&D OA. I forget the name, but I remember the edition: the OLD one! Yay for old-schoolers!
blackjack07 12-30-05, 11:17 AM	I started playing just before 3.5 was released and I decided to play a dwarven fighter named Argoth the Destroyer. "The Destroyer" was most noted for the many times he ran and hid in the middle of combat. Some "destroyer" huh?

Herger 01-02-06, 04:04 AM	A 1st level Wizard named Blue (and yes, only Blue, I had no imagination in the name) that lasted until 5th lvl because it was a quick party at a comic convention :D loved burning hands spell, specially when my fighters pals where in the middle of the flames :P

JadeSpider9643 01-02-06, 08:48 AM	well technically my "first" character was a female half-elf ranger, who thanks to a sadistic(read:immature ass) DM contracted some sort of "femine" disease simply for existing :confused: , but anyways what was supposed to be a new campaign group forming turned into a 1 time pick-up session. I never did find out what the disease was or what it did...but I'd like to play the character again someday...minus the inappropiate DM of course. My first REAL character was a human male cleric with starting feats weapon proficincy greataxe and monkey grip to swing his Large Greataxe, he eventually went Cleric 3/Fighter 3 in the "world's largest dungeon" before the group disbanded.
KoreKore 01-03-06, 12:20 AM	Well my first real charecter was made when i was 13 he was a elf ranger whose only starting item was a might composit longbow. His name wsa Averdion and he was chaotic good. He was known a my trigger happy elf of doom. He had a bad habit of shooting first when he thought he knew what was going on. Tended to make things worse but managed to kill a ROC at lvl 2 with only the help of one other lvl 2. Later he got a sphear of annialation and would alernate between it and his bow. Became a hunter later, I played him through 4 campaigns but he was eventually killed taking out a Tarraske(sp?) too bad really he was fun.
paigeoliver 01-03-06, 02:56 AM	I was a DM for 16 years before I actually sat on the other side of the DM screen. First character at that point. Julie Underhill. Halfling fighter (archer), Dex 18, Intelligence 8!!! She is currently level 4 (just shy of 5) in Living Greyhawk. She is sort of a one trick pony with an incredible attack bonus with her halfling composite longbow. But she also has a 23 AC (darn good for a 4th level Living Greyhawk character). She is terrible in hand to hand combat though, or at least pretty close to terrible. Julie has a reputation for getting animals killed. Ponies, cats, riding dogs, etc. They never last more than a couple of sessions, except for the kitten I picked up 6 or 7 modules and kept in my backpack until it reached adulthood, and then it froze to death last week.
AgarwaenImmortal 01-03-06, 07:00 AM	My first dungeons & dragons character was a 2nd edition human wild mage, that dressed in a bright yellow robe, was a little crazy... And of course, used and abused of Nahal's Reckless Dweomer...most of the time with dire consequences (wild mages in 2nd edition were so much cooler!)
