| Danz3306-15-06, 09:26 PM | 1. Even ranged-rangers need a melee strength, especially in dungeons. 2. Rangers do not have the hp of barbarians and wear wimpier armor, SO DON'T ACT LIKE A BARBARIAN!!! |
| Kuraito06-15-06, 09:30 PM | 3. TWF rangers are always inferior to bow Rangers. Only TWF if your characters flavor demands it. 4. Your pretty tough, but your not tank material. Don't consider yourself a primary combatant. 5. Your spells are useful, but not uber. 6. Multiclassing is your freind. 7. Using stealth and such to get a surprise round and to act first. Its the only real advantage over a fighter. 8. Favored enemy makes you pretty leathal against certain foes. Pick well. |
| Danz3306-15-06, 10:16 PM | 9. the epic ranged-ranger has precious few feats for attacking, so go with mobility and defense feats (most others are melee-specific, though a DM may allow you to take ranged versions) 10. not all rangers are low-charisma social phobics |
| Ryu Katsuragi06-15-06, 10:20 PM | 11. Racism is fun. It get's you bonuses to damage. 12. Who needs a bow, when you have a dire wolf? |
| Ront Iron-Roar06-15-06, 11:26 PM | 13. Unless you want the flavor or your campaign centers around fighting them. Don't choose Orcs or goblinoids as favored enemies starting out. Focus, on those bigger and more powerful creatures and be using your abilities well against bigger monsters. You end up with a big bonus against things that die easily for you when your higher level. |
| belthazzar111306-16-06, 12:17 AM | 14. (should be number one) don't play a ranger. |
| the_narrator06-16-06, 12:42 AM | 15. Hide is your friend. Move Silently is your friend. Some form of Sneak Attack is also your friend. |
| PoorHobo06-16-06, 12:50 AM | 16 - Unless there is a party rogue maxing the skills, Spot and listen will save your party on numerous occasions. The abiliy to see or hear the enemy first should never be underestimated. |
| Kirtanus_Albacron06-16-06, 01:17 AM | 17. Always get mithril armor as a ranger. |
| StarDrifter06-16-06, 02:04 AM | 18. for a dual wielder, two weapon defence (and impoved and greater versions of it) is your friend 19. improved favoured enemy is your friend too |
| Ront Iron-Roar06-16-06, 02:19 AM | 20.) Ranger (Two-weapon fighting tree.)/ Barbarian 1(Whirling Frenzy) is a cheap *** cheater build. |
| Ghostwheel06-16-06, 02:20 AM | 21: Human is often the best Favored Enemy. Changed Number Edit. |
| Ghostwheel06-16-06, 02:25 AM | 22: As the fighter class is often used as a Feat-Generator for many class builds, the Ranger is a suberb Skill-Generator for many Fighter builds. 23: Horizon Walker is still a viable PrC for higher level Rangers to take levels in. |
| BadgerTheHarbringerOfDoom06-16-06, 02:54 AM | 24) Want more bang for your buck when you want to get Track or Two-Weapon Fighting? Forget getting the feats, but take two levels of ranger and get a whole crap load of new stuff without worrying about prerequisites. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade06-16-06, 04:01 AM | 25) the bard is wrong, you are the true "jack of all trades" |
| babysamurai06-16-06, 10:07 AM | 26) Always take 2 levels of Barbarian for fast movement and uncanny dodge. 27) Always take 4 levels of Fighter for - you know why. 28) Your animal companion is a liability. 29) Always find an enchanted mithril breastplate as soon as possible. 30) If you go the TWF route, never, ever, take Two-Weapon Defence. |
| ninjarabbit06-16-06, 10:35 AM | 31) Ascetic hunter and devoted tracker are really good feats for a multiclassed ranger |
| Shadow_Fox_Deepwood_Arche06-16-06, 05:31 PM | 32) Rangers Should have been given a small amount of sneak attack dice... about 3d6 would have been nice. 33) Darkwood Stalker is a better ranger then the actual ranger. Ranger 3/Rogue 7/Darkwood Stalker 10 is a very nice build. 34) If you take more then three levels of ranger, ALWAYS give up your animal companion for the Distracting Attack option in PH2 unless the animal is for RP reasons or you could really use a free mount. 35) I feel that allowing a rangers effective druid level to equal his class level for determining the power of his animal companion would go a long way to balance the ranger class. |
| Shadow_Fox_Deepwood_Arche06-16-06, 05:38 PM | double post |
| Maraxus06-16-06, 05:44 PM | 36) A two weapon (non-rogue) warrior will want to have "flaming, shocking, frost, merciful, vicious short swords +1". Start low and let the enchanter upgrade them with every second gold you earn. |
| Jenrock06-17-06, 12:39 AM | 27) Always take 4 levels of Fighter for - you know why 37)Make sure those are your first four levels, so you can get a feat every level. |
| Sunrider06-17-06, 01:12 AM | 37)Make sure those are your first four levels, so you can get a feat every level. If you're going to multiclass Fighter/Ranger, never take your first level as a Fighter level. By going Ranger 1, then Fighter 1, rather than the other way round, you're losing 1hp (on average) and gaining 16 skill points. |
| MinuetofElves06-17-06, 10:43 AM | 38) Making friends with the scout in the group is helpful |
