| DragonsArt09-30-04, 04:37 AM | After the Rules of the Game article on sneak attacking, I wanted to start a thread to share various ways for a rogue to get sneak attacks. No logistic ways... but ACTUAL examples. I'll start the list. FLANKING 1. Use a familiar to flank 2. Use summoned creature to flank (UMD to cast from scroll or wand) 3. Summon shadow (shadowdancer) 4. Use charmed creature to flank (UMD to cast from scroll or wand) DENIED DEX 1. Feint with Expert Tactician for 1 Feint per round 2. Improved Feint for 1 sneak attack per round 3. Improved Feint with Expert Tactian for 1 sneak attack and 1 normal attack per round 4. Invisible for one sneak attack (then visible) 5. Improved Invisible for tons of sneak attacks 6. Blinking (ring or spell/wand with UMD) for tons of sneak attack - and miss chance 7. Hide then sneak attack 8. Hide then sneak attack then hide again (at -20) 9. Stun (levels of monk, color spray, etc. from UMD) 10. Quicker than the Eye feat (one sneak attack per round) 11. Invisible Blade (At 5th level, free action feininting for slicing and dicing!) What are YOUR favorite ways? |
| jasonhine09-30-04, 05:23 AM | I used to use my familiar all the time to flank until someone so kindly pointed out to me that as most familiars (unless you have an improved familiar) are tiny creatures they need to move into a creatures square to threaten them thus they can't assist you in flanking an opponent. |
| amethal09-30-04, 09:48 AM | Use mount to flank. Charge into combat on warhorse, tumble over foe and flank. This requires a mount which will continue to fight on its own. |
| hieratical09-30-04, 10:08 AM | Jump on a table and dare the other guy to follow you. If you have 5 ranks of balance and they don't, when they step somewhere they need to make a balance check they lose Dex to AC. |
| Grand109-30-04, 10:26 AM | have a nearby spell caster cast web, deny dex, 2-wf, twin-wf, i2wf, greater invisibility, haste, and flanking... and get to do 4d8's for sneak attack... 5 total attacks, all sneak attacks, my luck gave 4 of 'em crits... left a mature adult black dragon at -60 HP... (but it saved vs. massive damage) :D... it was beautiful :weep: |
| SoulLord09-30-04, 12:03 PM | 1).- have reach weapon 2).-have the expert tactician feat a).- cast grease on the target b).- cast fear on the target c).- cast blindness on the target d).- cast invisibility e).- cast hold person etc. etc. etc.. SoulLord |
| tarkin09-30-04, 12:09 PM | Climb up something then shoot the people following you (No dex while climbing). |
| The_Ditto09-30-04, 12:56 PM | This requires a mount which will continue to fight on its own. You mean like the party druid wildshaped into a Rhino ?? |
| Crater09-30-04, 01:49 PM | Cast Blindsight and quickdraw that dagger with Deeper Darkness still cast on it. Win initiative. (is that logistic?) |
| nice2meetU09-30-04, 08:10 PM | Quicker than the eye (it isnt stated in 3.0, that u may use it only once) + 1 expert tactican attempt is my favourite. especially i loved it to use partial charges with overun attempts (3.0). i think my record was 7 sneaks in a round at lvl 11, with cleave and improved trip :D . I partially charged 2 times with the q.t.t.e. partial action (i used a double move to use q.t.t.e. twice), tripped 3 enemies on the way (2 of them on my diagonal way back to my group-allies, (mnk 6 + boots of striding and sprinning for 100ft) and cleaved once after a crit... (both missed their bluff check, due my cute items). expert tactican was last sneak with a flanker, i moved about the whole battlefield, and provoked about a dozen AoOs. my DM was about to kill me :D, as he noticed my feat combo wasnt so silly anymore, since i got sneak attack. i really loved that, but it was a real luck-round, especially the position of the foes, and my sneak was only 2d6. those were the times, as the overun was treated as a trip attempt, and was performable as part of a charge... but now the cute combo improved trip + q.t.t.e. ceased to function, bah. |
| Crater10-02-04, 11:05 AM | Wearing a ring of X-ray vision, attack an enemy standing on the other side of a wall using a 'brilliant energy' whip, gaining surprise and thus a sneak attack. |
| Deladrion Garthin10-02-04, 06:24 PM | 1).- have reach weapon... How does this in and of itself give the opportunity for Sneak Attack? Just curious. :D |
| Megrim_Lord10-02-04, 06:28 PM | Play a pixie and stab the enemy in the ankle with a sewing needle. Repeat until you have the most embarassed opponent in the world, dead from pinpricks and total humiliation |
| GoodTeletubby10-02-04, 10:51 PM | Play a pixie and stab the enemy in the ankle with a sewing needle. Repeat until you have the most embarassed opponent in the world, dead from pinpricks and total humiliation hey, it works *has successfully killed an opponent with a char who was shrunk to 6" tall by a rod of wonder he activated* |
| DragonsArt10-03-04, 12:12 PM | We can definately mention the: Quicker than the Eye Feat (Song & Silence) - Make a Bluff vs Spot. If they fail, they don't see your next action. If action is an attack, they loose DEX Feint/Improved Feint (PHB) - Bluff vs their Sense Motive, if they fail they loose DEX against your next melee attack Flick of the Wrist (Complete Warrior) - Draw a light weapon and attack in same round and opponent is flat-footed for that attack Sleight of Hand (Complete Warrior) - Fight a foe with a dagger and nothing in your off-hand for 2 rounds, on the 3rd round make a Sleight of Hand opposed by opponent's Spot... if he fails, he is flat-footed for the attack. (Requires QuickDraw) Most of these work in conjunction with Expert Tactician (Song & Silence) which gives you an extra attack when the person is denied their dexterity bonus. |
