| Onikani02-15-07, 08:22 PM | One of my players wants to be a Wu jen, i've been DMing for years, but no one ever played one before, so i have some questions. I already checked the Faq and couldn't find the answers, Please help! ------------------- Wu jen get a taboo whenever they get a spell secret. (taboo description) They get spell secrets at every 3rd level (spell secret desc) At level 6 they get "Elemental Mastery instead of a spell secret". (EM desc) So should they get a taboo at 6th level? Logic seems to say yes since they are getting mastery instead of it... ----------------- Wu jen and Elemental Savant. Elemental savants have to use energy substitution to change all spells with elemental descriptors other than the one they chose. And it specifically mentions Cold, Fire, Acid, Elect. Wu jen have 5 element Cold, fire, Earth, Wood, Metal Assuming a Wujen/Savant chooses Fire or cold, would he have to energy substitute Wood and Metal as well? --------------- Thanks! |

They do not get a spell secret on 6th level, therefore they do not get a taboo at 6th level. If this is a home game you have some leeway to overrule this if you really want to, but the rules text do not support it. Basically, a Wu Jen gets a spell secret and a taboo at levels 3, 9, 12, 15, 18. That's it. Simple, ne? Elemental savants have to use energy substitution to change all spells with elemental descriptors other than the one they chose. And it specifically mentions Cold, Fire, Acid, Elect. Wu jen have 5 element Cold, fire, Earth, Wood, Metal Wu Jen "elements" and elemental savant "elements" are unrelated. Use the Elemental Savant rules for determining which spells need to be Energy Substituted, and use the Wu Jen rules to determine Wu Jen based features, such as elemental mastery. |
