I am trying to revamp my monk lvl 6 to the rules from 3rd.

I am confused though.

On page 38 of the players hand book it says under unarmed attack bonus starting at lvl 6

+4/+1

does this mean I get two attacks, and +4 to the first and +1 to the second?

Also at lvl 15 you see

+11/+8/+5/+2

is that 4 attacks a turn and 11 to the 1st 8 to the 2nd and on down?

Thanks!

yes that is correct. It sounds like you're using the 3.0 version, which is a bit unnecessary in terms of the BAB.

sorry about that. I meant the Base Attack Bonus. Under normal circumstances, for every +6 to the Base Attack Bonus (not counting strength or magic or miscellaneous modifiers) you get an extra attack at a +1 bonus.

The problem is that in 3.0 they gave monks their own little "Unarmed Base Attack Bonus" which was more confusing than anything (especially when multiclassing) and advanced at a different rate.

In 3.5 they fixed that by giving them the same medium base attack bonus and instead of the funky rate of increase (from 3.0) they changed the flurry ability. It's actually made monks more powerful.

start at 0 and the BAB goes up to hit an armor class that also goes up instead of the reverse. In other words, an AC of 32 and a BAB of +25 are better than AC 10 and BAB 0 these days.

BAB progresses upward differently per each character class.
Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger BAB progresses the fastest, at +1 per level.
Rogue, Cleric, Druid, Bard, monk etc. BAB increases at 3/4 rate.
and wizard & sorcerer BAB increases at 1/2 rate.

Monk BAB in 3e progressed differently.
Normally, classes get another attack after every 5 points of BAB +1, with the second attack being at the same BAB as the first, but five points less.
So a 6th level fighter would have a BAB of +6/+1.
An 11th level fighter would have a BAB of +11/+6/+1
and so forth.
Monks in 3e get extra attacks a little faster.
Normally, they only have a 3/4 Base attack bonus, but they recieve more attacks.
Their extra attacks come in every 3 or so base attack points +1 and the extra attack would be the same as the one before it -3. So a 12th level monk would have a BAB of +9/+6/+3
And a 14th level monk would have a BAB of +10/+7/+4/+1.

But that whole mess was complicated, so that was eliminated in 3.5 and integrated the extra attacks into a monk-only special ability called "Flurry of Blows" which simply dealt extra attacks in something of a haste-style. A 20th level monk, for instance, has a BAB of +15/+10/+5. WHen a monk used flurry of blows, the monk could attack with a BAB of +15/+15/+15/+10/+5. to continue to follow suit to the other class's designs.

This has been a lesson from the Darkest of Angels.

EDIT: Ahh, Dave, you beat me to it. Pages from the threads have been loading rather slowly recently. Not as bad as a few weeks ago, but still, sometimes it takes minutes to upload a page. Ever since I got cable internet, I've been spoiled with split second downloads. STOP TORTURING ME!!!! :weep:
