You get HD up to your caster level x2. If you intend to adventure with those companions, you instead get HD up to your caster level. A ranger's caster level is 1/2 his ranger level, so you can adventure with animals whose total HD equal 1/2 your ranger level. Are lycanthropy characters good? "Good" is a bit ambiguous. Good aligned, or powerful? Most lycanthropes are evil or neutral, although werebears are lawful good. They're fairly powerful if you can shapechange when you want and they're nonstandard, so ask your DM if he'd allow it. Should I rear a wolf? If you want. It takes a lot of time that your probably won't have in a normal D&D campaign.

Actually, I think that later printings amended that to twice your casting level for non-adventuring characters or something like that. Or maybe it was just in the errata.

ksbsnowowl 01-30-04, 02:13 PM	Firstly, I doubt that a worf would put up with wearing armor of any type, but I suppose you could try. Look at the section on barding and equipment for use with mounts in chapter 7 of the 3.0 PHB. IIRC, it is something like twice or three times the cost of that type of armor for a human.

ksbsnowowl 01-30-04, 03:07 PM	It would be best to become a Deepwood Sniper and a Peerless Archer, but if you only have access to the core books, I'd say assassin is better. Arcane Archer actually sucks as an Archer PrC overall. It's main ability [the enhanced arrows] can be easily duplicated with the 3rd level wizard spell greater magic weapon.
