| Rethis11-25-04, 04:31 PM | Does anyone know when a Druid can take a Legendary Animal Companion? Furthermore, does anyone have a clue on the "rules" for how many HD your animal companion can have at a given level? For instance: I have a Druid that just turned 14th level. My companion just died. I'd love to be able to pick up a Legendary Wolf (14 HD, CR 7). The PHB is vague to say the least and the 3.0 rules have obviously been changed (i.e. no more multiple animal companions). I would guess that a Druid could have an animal companion equal to her HD, but the chart in the PHB doesn't necessarily agree (nor does the chart really follow a pattern). Any ideas, good house rules, etc would be much appreciated! |

You can not take an animal companion as a Druid until your level equals or exceeds the animal's basic hit-dice. Moreover, you only get a new slate of choices every third level (1,4,7,10,ect) so you could not take a 11 hit-dice animal as a companion until you were 13th level and it would subtract 12 from your effective Druid Level like any other animal companion in this category. That's my take. -Polaris |
