I've heard many people say that it might be the best class in 3.5. I still can't see the point, although I have to admit I haven't looked THAT closely, so if anyone could be kind enough to tell me why :)?

Two things: 1. what do you mean by best, and 2. IMHO(and others' as well) Psions and Psychic Warriors are some of the most balanced classes in 3.5

Best, as in most powerful classes in the game I suppose. Not best as in most well balanced ;p

Most powerful? Certainly not. Psions are wonderful, cool, versatile, adn balanced. Most Powerful, certainly not. They are kind of like a firwork. One giant blast of awe inspiring power, but that's it. They lack staying power. After 2 encounters, they are out of power points. In order to play one, you have to conserve every precious power point, not using too much in any single encounter.

I played one from level 11 to level 17, and the first lesson I learned was that you have to hold back. You might be capable of dishing out more, but if you do, you're just hosing yourself later on.

The most powerful classes in the game are Clerics and Druids. Hands down, no question, no doubt about it.

*gasps* My 20th level wizard can beat your 20th level cleric AND 20th level druid any time as long as i'm prepeared :p. And my 20th level sorcerer will just beat you whenever you want =p *I win yay!*

Take not of the "as long as I'm prepared part".

The fact about high level combat is that it all comes down to Initiative. Having one character fight against anopther character proves nothing. Classes weren't meant to duel, they were meant to adventure together.

Also note that 20th level is not the entire lifespan of a character. A Wizard or a Sorcerer struggles to survive during those early levels, praying that a stray arrow or a random critical doesn't kill them. Druids and Clerics are constantly powerful. They are "more complete" as it were, and have far fewer weaknesses.

No vestiges of Vancian spellcasting. These guys don't even have spell slots.
The powers and feats are just so very very cool. So are [most of] the Prestige Classes. And Races. Aw heck: the whole darn book is just so very very awesomely cool.
It's really easy to keep track of power points, whereas spell slots tend to be a bit of a hassle to tic off the sheet (I use glass beads to represent PP. They are fun to play with when it's not my turn. :D).
Did I mention that they're cool?

Well I suppose you must use different colors for different amounts, 200 glass beads cant be good. Although they are super fun to play with. And use to read the fine print.

Well I suppose you must use different colors for different amounts, 200 glass beads cant be good.I don't currently have so many PP that that is a necessity, but I do plan on using a different color to represent groupings of 5.

Although they are super fun to play with. And use to read the fine print. An enthusiastic Yes to both. However, there is a downside: my DM insists upon handing him the beads when I use them, not because he doesn't trust me but because he likes to play with them (not to mention gloat over how quickly I run out of PP).

pft, i've never had problems keeping a low level sorcerer/wizard alive. Whereas low level fighter classes dies all the time. The chances of a stray arrow or a freak critical hitting a Sorcerer/Wizard is by far less than it happening to one of the big "strong" fighters with d8 or d10's. Imo anyways :p, but I'll agree on that the druid is also one of the coolest classes there is ^^. I lost my teast for it when an old DM of mine though he got to powerful with firestorm and threw 8 disintergrate and quite a few fingers of death at me in one round, oh well... life sucks :D

When you say the best class has to be the most powerful class then you haven't understood the principles of roleplaying

The character has to be balanced. D&D is a MULTIPLAYERgame, it is not very funny having a character killing a complete orc-army with one strike ;)
